It is our first year as DVC members and we figured we would make reservations for a studio at the Boardwalk from October 27th to November 2nd to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary....no openings for studios! No openings for 1 bedrooms! Hmmm maybe we'll change our dates.....no openings in October- period! What is going on, we thought i was the off season, is this a really popular month now?? I cant believe the Boardwalk is that booked. Dissapointed DVC member.

You can always get whatever you want at your home resort at the eleven month window.

Anything else is a gamble. Usually, it is a good idea to make reservations at your home resort at the eleven month window and then try to change at the seven month window. This way, you are at least guarannteed a room during your vacation.

The slower months for WDW have a lower point cost for DVC resorts. Usually, the slower the WDW season, the more booked the WDW DVC resort is.

The off seasons are extremely popular with DVCer's....there seems to be a scramble to book times like early december and even January at 11 months in some cases. Sorry to hear you can't get your ressies. Perhaps you can try using the Disney Collection?

Oct is a very popular month but I am supprised that there is not a studio or a 1 bedroom to be had at BW. We are going 10/7 - 10/15 and staying in a 1 bedroom at WV to celebrate our 10th. I wouls suggest you try moving the dates a day or 2 in either direction. Also check OKW and WV for availabilty. You can book at 1 of them and then go on the wait list for BW. Good luck!

It's getting to be that there are NO slower times for WDW anymore (so much for the bad economy), at least as far as the DVC and on-site hotel locations are concerned. I'm sure the off-site places have plenty of space at that time, but not WDW!

Is it possible that you are trying to get a room during the PGA golf tournament (WDW is almost ALWAYS sold out the week before, during and after). Luna Park Pool will be closed for renovation from 9/10-28, so lots of BWDVC people may have chosen to go in October instead of then. Could this be the beginning of the Wine and Food Festival (I don't think so, just encouraging you to investigate some potential reasons)?

Our experience........put yourself on the wait list. You've got lots of time! We used the wait list at least 4 or 5 times and have had a 100% sucess rate with MS. Perhaps be a little flexible with your dates?

Definately wait list, I was able to get 2 studios w/in a month of the date I requested. They always become available. good Luck

That IS the time of the Food & Wine Festival which has gotten to be very popular. Since it's at Epcot, BWV is the most convenient place to stay.

We reserved Nov 5-7 back at the 11th month window and the CM then told me that rooms were going fast.

I think during the lower point times studios and 1BRs are the most difficult to get. We have never had trouble getting a 2 BR, but 1BRs have been a problem on short notice.

I think when you have a specific date in mind and are not booking around the 11 month window, you have to give the wait list time to work. I would take whatever is available at any of the DVC resorts (if they are acceptable back-ups) and also get on the wait list.

I think with so many new owners at BWV there is kind of a log jam in place. You've got people wanting to stay only in their home resort, people who have sold back points in MB purchases and people who are using the cruise which also results in points given back to DVC to sell. Hopefully, this will ease up in the future as some BWV owners try out other DVC resorts.

Did you try for OKW or VWL? I would book that if available and do the waitlist for BWV. You have plenty of time so something could open up. If not, you won't be disappointed with the other two resorts. They are beautiful and all 3 are great to stay at.

We tried for a studio at BWV last year at the 7 month window from Nov5-10 and were all sold out. My home is OKW so I booked there. I wait-listed for BWV and notjiong ever came through. I only wanted 2 days either at the beginning of the trip or the end of the trip.
Hope you have better luck
We ended up staying at OKW and had a great time anyway.

Two conclusions:
  • For DVC to operate successfully -- meaning that all members can use the points that they receive every year -- the resorts need to be almost full every night. Off-season stays take fewer points per night, so that members will request such nights anyway. The DVC point charts work the way they're supposed to, flattening the demand curve into year-round demand. When DVC members experience difficulty getting reservations during an off-season time such as October, it really means the Disney did a good job developing the point chart.
  • It's always a good idea to plan ahead, and, if possible, take advantage of the home resort advantage.

Last time I checked (less than a week ago), they still have some studios open at WLV.
I know how dissappointed you must feel, put your name on the waitlist, you never know what might come up.
By the way,
We're planning to go at the same time frame, good luck, maybe we'll see you there! :)

BWV is our home resort and I tried to get a studio for 2nd week in Oct. at just over 7 months and they were all booked up. Got put on the wait list and 2 weeks later we got our studio. It's a PV and we are still on the wait list for a SV.
