Sad.... 10yr old killed by bus at WDW (2nd story added)

Wow! Please bless the hearts of all involved. I am sure a lot of tears are being shed right now. This accident is going to change a lot of lives.

very sad to hear. not to take away from the story at all but this caught my eye

The child was pronounced dead at the scene, i thought they dont pronounce that on disney property?

This is an urban legend and not true.

How sad :( Sounds like just a horrible set of circumstances all happened at the wrong time. What a terrible event, sometimes these things just can't be explained and just happen.

I feel so sad for all the families involved. It was a tragic accident that should never have happened. Still not sure why the little boy was riding his bike in the road and his parents were not around. I know that it is Disney but, I would NEVER let my 9 and 11 year old go off by themselves. Very sad!!!

As has been discussed in regards to some other stories sometimes people let their guard down at Disney in situations they wouldn't when out in the "normal" world. Weather it is child predators, theft, or playing near the street a situation that wouldn't happen normally ends up happening because of the "nothing bad happens at Disney" mindset.

Throw in the campground setting where kids normally run a little wild (at least everywhere I camp the do) and they just combined to create a moment when a tragedy happened.

I think it's more than just the fact that people let their guard down on vacation... by the time my siblings and I were 6 or 7 we were definitely allowed to bicycle around the neighborhood with our friends. (I'm 30 now, so it wasn't ALL that long ago)

You just don't think that something awful is going to happen to your family.

This so sad. :sad1: My heart goes out to his family and his friend who was with him.

Simply tragic. Praying for all of those involved: the families of both the little boy and the bus driver. What a horrible accident.

I get so nervous driving next to a child on a bike, myself. Passing kids on bikes I nearly slow to a stop because you never know if a child will get distracted or lose his balance... poor kid, I really feel for the family and all involved. I'm sure the bus driver feels just awful.

just horrible:( I feel so bad! It said the boy traveled off the sidewalk and hit the side of the bus! the poor bus driver must feel horrible but it sound like she didnt even see him. Still way to sad:(

So sad. When my son was small I always made him pull to the side of the road and stop when a car was coming because I was afraid he would lose control. My prayers to all involved.

From the article. Really sad.

The third grader was the only child Brubaker and her husband, Dick, had together. He had been born when Brubaker was 42, after 10 years of waiting and desiring a child, she said through tears Friday morning.

Tragic. What a horrible situation. My heart goes out to the family and friends. I witnessed an accident similar to that a few years ago. My husband and I were driving down a four lane busy road and a group of boys were trying to dart across the street, leaving the youngest (5) on the opposite side. He didn't time it right. My husband and I both saw him at the same time and I my husband slammed on his brakes. The boy ran into the side of the vehicle that was just in front of us in the opposite land. My husband was the first one to him. He was unconscious, but alive. He ended up being ok, just some broken bones and and concussion. It was the most horrific thing I've ever seen and it still affects my driving to this day. Any time I see kids near a street where I am driving, I slow down and my heart speeds up.

I agree. I think of myself as a pretty safety conscious parent, but we've all made errors in judgement or let our guard down. Thankfully, the repercussions aren't usually this awful. I'm not going to judge these parents.

If I was these parents I would be asking questions too! Disney owns that town and will certainly work to cover their behinds and put the blame on anyone else. Look at the people on this thread who are quick to jump to the defense of the company before the facts are out. So many comments of "oh that poor bus driver." Yes, very bad day for the bus driver, however a family lost their child in a horrible accident. Perhaps we could allow that it was slightly worse for them? Not to mention the child who suffered a horrible death under a bus.

Those buses go way too fast through that campground where children and families mostly walk, bike, or drive golf carts to get around. Trees obscure a lot of the winding roads and there aren't many crosswalks or stop signs along the way to slow them down. School zones around schools have strict speed limits, I know Disney wants the transportation system to be fast and efficient but it seems it is coming at a high price lately.

Whether this child was being supervised or not is irrelevant, he was nine not two.

This upsets me greatly, I am horrified that this happened and yes on Disney property. I agree with the previous poster that said the bus traffic through the campground is detrimental. It was an accident waiting to happen and it has happened.

I feel so bad for this family and the driver. Each will have their own burden to carry and it is such a long road to recovery. I understand the grief and that it is natural for them to want to blame someone/thing so why not Disney? I just hope they are able to move on and recover naturally.

Many of the passengers on the bus are going on record and saying the young boy hit the bus and that there was nothing the driver could do to avoid the little boy. The article states that the parents brought the bike home with them, if the police thought this was anything more than the terrible accident it is then they never would have released the bike as it was evidence.

It's so sad all around.
