Sad.... 10yr old killed by bus at WDW (2nd story added)

TV News here (Tampa Market) just updated that the boy was from St. Petersburg, FL

The buses are loud and fast and ruin the whole experience of camping. I made a complaint to Disney last year that trolleys be brought in to replace the bus system.

I like this idea!

I don't know if it was just my experience but the bus drivers at the campground seemed grumpier than the others. Not that this would make it the bus driver's fault but maybe they are busier there?:confused3 I don't know, just wondering.

It appears it wasn't the bus driver's fault. The child ran his bike into the side of the bus, and the bike went under. Driver may have not even seen it happen.

This story is so sad, and my heart goes out to that family...

But even more so, my heart goes out to his friend, this little girl, that was with him when he was hit. Sending prayers/thoughts her way for some peace.

This is such a sad, sad situation. :sad2:

My heart breaks for all involved, the family of the boy, the girl with him, and the bus driver.

What a horrible thing to have happen.

Very tragic. Until the details are out I can't lay the blame completely on Disney yet. The kids were on bikes. I cycle a lot on roads with traffic and there are things you have to do to stay safe when you are biking on a public road.

There are many drivers who are not very good at interacting with cyclists and many cyclists that are not very good at interacting with traffic. I have seen both.

Regardless of the fault it is sad to have people killed anywhere let alone at Disney.

The way it reads to me is they were riding on the sidewalk next to the road. The boy lost control for some reason and veered off into the side of the bus as it was going by. I would be willing to bet a guide rail will be going up between the sidewalk and the road in the near future. Its sad that it often takes tragedy to prevent it from happening in the future.

Its a horrible accident and I wish all the best for the family/bus driver/Disney.

So, so sad for so many people. From what's being said, it sounds to me like no one is to blame... accidents happen, tragic as they may be. Can't blame a kid for losing control of their bike or whatever... it happens. So sad.

My heart goes out the boy's family, his friend's family, the bus driver and the passengers on the bus.

I'm not sure that I read anything out of the story except that the boy, unfortunately, left the sidewalk and hit the bus. From the new stories it doesn't appear that the bus driver is at fault and there is no way to know if the boy lost control of his bike, was just acting like a kid and not paying attention, trying to race his friend or what. Very unfortunate accident for all involved.

From a personal experience, when I was about 13 or so, my mom struck a boy who ran out in front of her while I was in the car with her. She was only going 20 mph, the boy was banged up a bit, but was ok. (Thank God) My mother had the most difficult time after that. It took her many months before she got behind the wheel of a car again, and when she did, she was a nervous wreck. It's something that crosses my mind from time to time as a flashback too when I come across kids on the street.

I feel so deeply sorry for the driver. For the family & for everyone who was a part of that experience today. It was tragic & quite honestly, (IMO) no one is at fault, it was an accident. And accidents happen. It's really upsetting.

This is so heartbreaking for everyone involved. :sad1:

This is one of my greatest fears when we go camping at the campground we usually go to. Kids get so comfortable and forget there are vehicles going back and forth. We've seen some close calls.

I so agree with you, that's why they call them accidents. So sad for everyone, the other child, the bus driver and the child's parents .... there are just no words that could express how badly I feel for all of them tonight. The sadness will be overwhelming for all of them - for a long time...

I feel so sad for all the families involved. It was a tragic accident that should never have happened. Still not sure why the little boy was riding his bike in the road and his parents were not around. I know that it is Disney but, I would NEVER let my 9 and 11 year old go off by themselves. Very sad!!!
