S/O Coronavirus School Closing considered in your area?

School's in my county were just ordered to switch to "modified schooling" starting Tuesday through April 13th. They are open on Monday so the children can pick up educational supplies.

Arizona schools are now closed until March 27. Our Spring Break (So. AZ) is next week - starting March 16. I'm an elementary teacher and wondering about state standardized testing. And so it begins.

they waived all testing requirements in Georgia. I can only assume that most states will take a similar approach

Dgd"s school system emailed today laying out the plans including meals to go for the students who get free/reduced lunch and breakfast.

I am honestly pleasantly surprised on the swiftness of it.

The world of rapidly changing directives :)

Update from this evening:

"The Governor is strongly recommending that K-12 schools cancel for the upcoming week (March 16-20) {{mainly for those schools just coming back from Spring Break. As I mentioned earlier schools around here mostly are on Spring Break at this time already, who knows what the directive will be next weekend for the following week}}

The Kansas State Board of Education formed an expert task force to build a comprehensive plan that schools face in light of COVID-19. They will look at how schools can move the classroom online and how they can assist students who don’t have access to online tools finish the semester, especially those set to graduate.

They will also look at how schools can continue assisting in providing meals for students who need them and what role schools can play in assisting with childcare for local and state healtchcare workers, first responders and other essential workers."

I'm guessing this is more in response to all the other states closing schools. To go from the 13th saying the state and board of education isn't recommending school closures to the 15th to saying they should close is a 180 turn without an outbreak. That said at least they are only recommending now that is a closure for a week.

Our district had school today. The bus went through the neighborhood about 20 minutes ago. I had been checking their website and facebook page out of curiosity through the weekend and there was no update and no mention of the mandated school closures.

We got the email last night our schools (Northern Virginia) are now closed indefinitely. (We were already closed through mid-April)

Do you mind saying where you are? I think at this point there are way more districts closed than open. I'd be interested to hear what/where districts are not closed. No one in my family (throughout tge country)know of any districts currently open.

Sorry. Wisconsin. Our Governor ordered schools closed as of Wednesday this week, but districts had the option to remain open today and tomorrow. I know a bunch of districts are still open today to wrap up details.

Oh okay, so they are planning on closing, just getting organized the next cpl. days makes sense. I'm curious if there are any districts in the US not closing at all. I'm not sure how a district could justify not closing at this point, but who knows

Ours are all open in the area..at this point..but they are on spring break so they are not calling a decision at this exact moment (see my previous comments for where I'm located at). They have already warned it's possible though. They'll have to release a statement before school is back in session next week one way or another (to say they are staying open or to say they are closing).

All schools in the state of West Virginia are closed. All of the buses in our county are running their normal routes though with a bagged lunch and breakfast for each child. They also have bagged meals at the schools in the event parents need to pick up meals themselves.

NJ schools are now closed indefinitely.

Indefinitely makes it sound like they won’t open until next September. As far as my district has said that we will be closed until April 20th. They have provided us day by day lesson plans for the next 19 days until spring break.

I'm in NY (near Albany, not NYC). On Friday we were informed our school is closed until next Monday. Nothing further yet but a lot of local districts are closing to April 20th so I think it's just a matter of time. My kids go to private school and they seem to be the last to decide anything around here.

Indefinitely means there is no planned date to reopen, ie until further notice. Some schools may be closed until the end of the 'normal' school year.

I'm in NW OH - we have a mandated 3 week closure. This leads into our district's spring break (some local school districts are on spring break already). So while some are set to go back (as of now) April 6, my kids are off until April 14. Our governor has been noted saying they will probably not reopen this school year.

Same county as you in NJ and April 20th was our expected date to return too. But I’m thinking the same thing....they’ll go back in September.

The governors press conference was pretty stern.

We got word today our district is closed through April 5th. Some schools have prom scheduled that same weekend. I feel sad for all those graduating this year.
