?s FW, Fireworks, & other camp activities in early June w/ a 4yo

The Fort is not a normal "Camping" trip per say. To instill camping take him to a local state park. I love the Fort but it's not what I consider "real" camping, heck you can't even have a campfire. Ok Now let the Flaming begin :)

This is not a flme, you are correct, sort of. Everybody has a different idea of camping. Some of our friends laugh when we tell them we are going camping. So what we have a shower, bunks for the kids, 3 TV's, AC/Heat, etc. Many say we don't camp so we say we are going RV'ing. Call it what you want but we have fun.

We use to go camping by some people's standards, which included hiking into the mountains, not seeing anything for days, sleeping under the stars, etc. Try that with kids and see who survives, because I doubt someone will make it out alive. :scared1:

With that said I have seen several different types of state parks and I am sure there are some that many would not consider camping, like the ones with paved pads and full hook ups. Either way it goes have fun, call it what you want, and don't worry about what others think.:hippie:

Your correct, to each his own. I don't "RUFF" it LOL I take the house camping / RVing with me LOL. Be it the Fort or the local State Park.:cool1:

I know, it is tough to get my wife to go anywhere without full hook ups now.

That's actually my DS. I grew up "real" camping. Wood fires, 20 miles hikes, 3 day backpacking weekends covering 50 miles with nothing but what you carried in. Great times!
Now it's "RV'ing". A/C, TV, satelite dish and microwave... And a real bed.

In Cub Scouts, my son found out he had to "CAMP IN A TENT!!!"..."OUTSIDE" and about had a heart attack. He's spoiled.

Call it camping or RV'ing at the fort or on a back trail, it's all fun!

Make sure you request the 1500 Loop; you don't want to be in a remote loop alone with a 4-year-old because you will probably need to go to the Comfort Station in the middle of the night, etc. Are you getting the Salute tickets? Four days in the parks is more than enough for a four year old. Try to alternate Ft days and Park days. Otherwise it's "too much" and you'll most likely see some meltdowns. My boys really enjoy the boat rentals...everything from canoes to the motor boats. Schedule time for the pool each day. Play Shuffle Board (free) and Tetherball (free) and feed the ducks (free). Those are the kinds of things that make a big impression on little guys. If you go next door to WL for lunch; ride the Surrey Bikes.
I used to put my boys in swim suits (they look like shorts) all week, no matter what we had planned for the day. You never know when or where he might need to cool off (ie. the Dancing Waters a DTD).
In short, don't try to do it all. Take your time and enjoy yourselves.

thanks for all the suggestions. About keeping the tent cool, we are flying down & bringing suitcases. Any other ideas??? I've seen the little fans that you can hang from the top of your tent, but wasn't sure if they work or are a waste of money.
