Well, this seems to be good news for those of us who drive to WDW from the north...

COLUMBIA, S.C., June 14, 2011 — In a 32-0 vote, the South Carolina Senate today passed a measure halting the use of video cameras in the enforcement of speed limits. Passage of S.336 came after months of debate in both the House and Senate. The Town of Ridgeland had placed automatic cameras along I-95, issuing thousands of camera-assisted traffic citations in the process.

“This is a hard-fought win for liberty, and a well-deserved loss for Big Brother,” says Senator Larry Grooms, Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee and author of the bill. ”Good riddance to what was nothing more than a small-town money grab and a menace to motorists.”

The bill now heads to the Governor.

Thanks for posting this...it was a concern of mine (as both a driver and an American).

Will those cameras be removed / made inoperable by July 1?

South Carolina Bill Barring Mailed Speeding Tickets Becomes Law

Gov. Nikki Haley has signed into law a bill designed to stop a South Carolina town from using a traffic camera to send speeders a ticket in the mail.

The law bars towns from mailing traffic tickets. It requires officers to hand-deliver them along the roadside.

They are gone!

I'll never figure out how they thought this was going to fly considering SC Radar Enforcement regulations....it violated several of them:confused3

I don't know how they do it but DH got a ticket in the mail from Washington, DC. I guess different states?

FYI: There will still be officers parked in the median in this county so travel 90 MPH at your own risk.

Thanks for posting that follow up!

I've read of people getting tickets from these "traps" which indicate they were doing up to 13 mph faster than what they were "supposedly" doing. Now, who knows what is true and what's not. But still, if someone is going to give me a ticket, I'd rather it be handed to me by the officer who caught me speeding!
I told DH that the cruise control will be set a 1 mph BELOW the speed limit for the entire trip!

You also risk the lives of everyone else traveling the road with you (never mind any loved ones in the same vehicle) when you drive insane illegal speeds. I am four-square in favor of traffic law enforcement cameras.
