Hello,

I am a fairly new member and I have a relatively good grasp on the whole DVC concept. We are about to do an add-on of 50 pts. and I am possibly interested in renting these out since I am not sure I'll be able to use them before they expire later this year.

Aside from posting their availability on the rent/trade board, what is involved in renting them out?

Can I 'rent' a small number of points? Should I attempt to restrict this another DVC member? Is it done as a transfer? Does DVC have any issues with members 'renting' points to each other? Do I have to make an actual reservation for the person, OR can I just have the points transferred into their DVC acct?

Has anyone developed any kind of written agreement that is used when renting points? Are there any other web sites with more detailed info on renting points?

I know there's a bunch of questions here, but I am looking for any guidance available in learning about renting these points.

Thanks, in advance.

Chris

As the member who will rent your points, you are pretty free to set what you are willing to do.

DVC won't assist with any rental, but your options are to make a reservation for someone else (in their name) or transfer your points to another member.

If you transfer points, you can only do it once per use year.

There are no sample rental agreements that I'm aware of, but perhaps someone who has created one may be willing to share. All that is really needed is an outline of how the rental will be handled- including any deposit, when payments are due and what cancellation policy (if any) the member will maintain.

These issues should be understood up front, so there are no questions later in the transaction.

Technically, DVC does not allow money to change hands with a transfer of points, but in reality, MS has no way to tell if this has happened. MS will assist with the transfer- use a conference call with both parties simultaneously.

You can also consider banking any add-on for yor own use in the future.

Good luck!
