We have never been to HH before so we are thinking about booking either fall or spring. Which time would be most likely to book at 7 mos window? Also, are there enough things around to keep 10 and 12 yr olds busy? We will probably drive up to Charleston and see the sights one day. Would we be safe booking a whole week or should we go for just a few days(with kids in tow)?

There is no doubt in mind that DW and I will be perfectly content at HH(Im sure they have little nooks and crannies just like VWL, to curl up with a good book or even better, a good nap) ;)

Just want some opinions of what kids will enjoy there.

I think you'd have a better chance booking the fall at 7 months, as many people go to HH for Spring Break. Coincidentally, I think fall might actually be a better time to go, as the ocean may still be warm, depending on exactly when you want to go. In the spring, even when the weather is nice, the ocean can be a little nippy. :cold:

You might want to consider doing your day at Charleston on the way there or the way home, rather than as a day trip from HH. It's two hours each way, and with so much to do there, it could make for an extremely long day...

There is much to do at the resort -- the pools, the fishing pier, the beach, miniature golf, bike riding, organized activities. I think your kids will have a great time. I've heard very few reports of kids being bored there.

As far as booking a whole week, for our family, a week is not enough. But on our first trip there (1996, when the resort opened and wasn't very crowded yet), we were able to extend our trip by a couple of nights by calling while we were there. (Can you tell we loved the place from the first time we set foot there?) If you go at a time when the resort is not very crowded, and you want to extend by a few days, you may be able to do so.

Have a wonderful trip.

I agree. There is so much to do in and around the resort, our longest stay so far has been 5 days and it was not enough. My 10 year old DS loves Hilton Head. He gets as excited (maybe even more) about going to HH over Disney.

There are a few threads out there re: vacationing at Disney's HHI resort, but this is one of the latest: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=881334 It might provide you some insights you don't have already. In general, there is plenty to do at HH to keep the kids and you busy. Between the pool, the ocean, the marsh, the fishing/crabbing from the pier, the activities center, campfire, B'Lou's show, Beach House, kayaking, et. al., I think the kids will be thrilled. Further, there are lots of things to do outside the resort: biking, miniature golf, tours, etc. I think you and your family would enjoy HH. :paw:

If you do go in the spring, try to avoid the week of the Heritage Golf Classic (I think it's mid-April). We go in March, and have always gotten a 1 BR at 7 months, one time at only 3 months!

Hey

Thanks for all the replies! Sounds like a ton of fun with all those activities.

Hi, just out of curiousity...How is the weather at HH in October and November? Just wondering if it's too cold to do any outdoor activities? I guess the question is, is it worth going in October or November? Any input appreciated. Thanks :earsgirl:

I got a 2-BR 2 mo out for just after Labor Day so Fall and/or larger units may be easier to get.

I have found Oct. to be nicer weather than March, April and most of May. It is so hit or miss on the temps being warm or not in the spring. It is also quite windy. The ocean is quite cold from winter.

We too love HH. I have a 7 and 10 year old. They both like the kids' night out events. In the summer every tuesday night(I think it could have changed) they have a 4th of July cookout and fireworks. My 7 year old loves riding her bike everywhere she wants to go. We don't get to do that at home. She has told me repeatedly she likes HH better than WDW. Make sure you pack your bikes. If you can't you can always rent them. :flower:
