I'm nervous about flying with my three children, without hubby.
Do you drop off luggage before the security check? Because hubby is going to help me as far as he can go without a ticket.

My last name is different than my children. Do i need to take a birth certificate? I know what's the big deal about taking a couple of pieces of paper but I would lose my head if it wasn't attached to my body.

It is a direct flight. I have read packing tips "Make sure you put an extra set of clothing in your carry on" Do you think there is a chance of lost luggage on a direct flight because I am going to be loaded with stuff to carry already without the extra set and I will need all my extra arms for my rambuncious 3 year old.

I hate flying but have to keep it together for my kids, it is their first time.

Thanks!

I fly by myself with 2 children. I check all bags, except 1 carryon, which I have on my shoulder. Each child has a small back pack (about 1/2 size of reg./they are then used in the parks too) with toys, snacks, drink, and a change of clothes (shorts/t-shirt/underware). In my carry on I have sleepware for all of us, medications, and a change for me, a drink, a few extra snacks, paperwork and my string purse. I would bring a copy of their birthcertificates. If you have an older (6ish) child they could always be rolling your carry on. I would be concerned about getting seating near each other...I hope that is already arranged. If not I know many ticket agents seem to have a soft spot for mothers traveling alone with children. My children slept on most of their flights...so I thought it wasn't bad at all. Then the driver helped with the bags at the MCO terminal.:D Good Luck

I have seen luggage get lost on a direct flight...it was loaded on the wrong plane....but that was a long time ago, and things have gotten better. Perhaps I would chance it...But I would carry on any medications/paperwork for sure.

I would bring a copy of birth certificates. They can be used as identification for small children and to verify ages. Definately follow the above advice regarding limiting carry ons and packing spare clothes and toiletries. Ever since I went to Hawaii and my luggage went to St. Louis for 3 days, I always pack extra items in my carry on. I have traveled with my 2 toddlers by myself. Never underestimate the kindness of strangers. The only time that was a real PIA was when I had to go to the bathroom at the airport. Have a great vacation.
