Hi! How big are the planes, and do they pretty much stick to schedule? We are arriving late on Thursday, and thats okay, as long as they stick to the 4:30 departure for Sunday. What are your experiences?

No one here can answer your question about their schedule. Airlines (unfortunately) reserve the right to change flight times any time they feel like it!!

I have operated out of the Sanford airport and can say they operate pretty much to their schedule. They arrive on time and usually depart on time. Their schedules are different because they do not have rugularly daily schedules. They go from one city to the next two or three days a week.

Pan Am, not the old Pan Am, used to be here and they were bad about schedules. They came in and left whenever they could get here. Allegiant is pretty good, so far.

In regard to size of airplane, I guess I'm asking how many passengers they hold specifically on their route from MidAmerica (St. Louis) to Orlando.

From what BobP posted, it looks like either 130 or 150 passengers depending on which variation of the MD80 you get (MD83 or MD87). I'm not sure there's a way to find out which variation you get. Maybe try calling Allegiant?

Either one of those would be fine. We flew Delta out of Nashville and my DD got sick on a small plane, 80 pass. I think. I think there is just more motion and noise with the smaller plane that bothered her.

When we flew out of MidAmerica in 05, they were on time.

We have been checking into Allegiant for April and saw that they charge per checked bag plus a slew of other fees. Does anybody know how much $ per bag is costs?
I can't find it on their website anywhere.

Hi Jodi- You actually have to go thru the booking process then they ask you about checked bags. I believe it was $3 per bag, but it did warn that if you just show up and have bags to check there will be additional penalties. They also charge $11 per seat per way to chose seats. I didn't realize that this was both ways, so I paid the $11 per seat for the trip back, but didn't do so on the trip to Orlando. I will have my two kids with me, and the little one will freak out if she isn't sitting with me. Hopefully it won't be crowded, or maybe someone will have pity and switch with me if necessary. Did you have any particular problems with Mid America? Is there free parking, and where did you park? How long before your flight did you get there? Thanks for the info!

Does anyone know if the fee for checked bags is just for certain airports?? We have reservations for a flight for March, and were never asked about #'s of bags and not charged any kind of fees for baggage?? We are flying from South Bend, Indiana to Vegas.

I flew from Des Moines to Vegas and was never charged a checked baggage fee. We were going to use them to fly to Orlando until we found out they only flew to Sanford. They are usually smaller flights but actually are a lot of fun since they are direct flights most people are vacationing. So on the way down everyone chats about their plans when they arrive and on the way back many of the same people flew back and we all slept!!!!!! Maybe that is just Iowan thing- We talk too much!

I think they must have recently added the checked baggage fee as I booked reservations in October for January and there weren't any fees. When I booked a quick business trip in November, there were fees.

The plane that flew from SFB to FAY (Fayetteville, NC) was huge for Fayetteville. It must have been the 130 passenger plane. It was very roomy and comfortable. Everyone had their own row as they've recently started this route and not everyone has heard about it yet. We actually had to walk out and take the steps up to the plane as the Allegiant aircraft was bigger than the FAY airport gates could handle.

It was fabulous. I'm going the end of this month with my 18month old and 4 year old and can't wait.

The last flight I was on on Allegiant actually took off 10 minutes early since everyone was onboard. The flight from take off to touchdown was like 50 minutes.

Awesome. It is so much better than navigating the busy RDU airport which is a good 75 minute commute as well as the very busy MCO airport.

You don't get Magical Express with SFB, but we prefer having a rental anyways with small children. I'm always afraid I'll need something and don't want to be dependent on taxis, and buses if I need to get to a hospital or 24 hour drugstore or what have you. Plus it will make our day at Sea World easier without having to worry about transportation.

Sorry, I'm long winded. But the planes are definitely big and in excellent condition (as far as I could tell)
