Running on Fumes from Start to Finish

Wow - sorry I missed this update.

No worries! I have not been all that great about updating on this report. I hopefully will get one done tomorrow...

Darn - I can really feel your pain. I have been both that tired and hungry and its so NOT a good feeling!

Yup.. it made for a rough race for sure!

Sorry your BD meal was not what you had hoped. I know a lot of people love the Cobb Salad but it just looks like a bowl of mush to me. :rotfl: I guess I like bigger pieces.

That kinda describes it well. "mush" Everything was pretty finely chopped. I just was surprised at how little lettuce there was and more importantly how much parsley was in it.

Ugh to the rain and the annoying lady on the bus.

The rain sucked for sure. I just felt bad for everyone. The lady was so frustrated that she couldn't get "home". I would like to think that the level of entitlement she had was just due to that rain and her frustration and that normally she wouldn't be so demanding when she wasn't in fact the only one wet and wanting to get back to their rooms.

So glad you got some yummy pasta. I have had that make you own pasta before and its really good!

It was soo very very good. Probably one of the best choices I made on the entire trip!

I hope you feel much better in the morning after a good night's sleep.

Not to give too much away, but yes... the next day would prove to be far better than race day. :goodvibes

Ann, sorry I missed this update.

I'm glad you finally got some food. We weren't impressed with the Brown Derby when we went back in 2007 and we've not been back since.

You did a great job on your list.

Ann, sorry I missed this update.
No worries... updates are easy to miss.

I'm glad you finally got some food.

I just can't believe I let myself not eat all day. I blame the adult beverages for keeping me going...and me not realizing that I needed substance too. :rotfl:

Glad I am not the only one to be "meh" about the brown derby.

You did a great job on your list.

Thanks. I am actually surprised we stayed the course as much as we did.

Two weeks since I have done an update to this TR? :scared: I am falling down on the job I think!

Ok, so lets refresh our memories a bit... I left off at the end of the very long 1/11. We ran the half on little sleep and I ended up barely eating anything all day. Finally our celebratory dinner was an epic fail. Ok... remember now? Good.....

So the next morning I was not going to let a little need for sleep get in my way. I had an ADR planned for one of my favorite pre RD breakfasts. I had made it for more people, but sadly the only other person I could rally was Zoe.

So off we went to AK. It was the day of the marathon so we took a different route into the parking lot. (in fact, I think we may have been dropped off somewhere different) Even though we had an ADR to get to, we stopped to :cheer2: for all the runners who were running by. It was so fun! I loved seeing them all. I believe AK is about the half way point in the marathon so I knew that they were probably all getting a bit tired at that point.

We couldn't linger too long though because our reservation was soon. So we made our way into the park. We stopped for a picture.

or two

I appreciate an empty MK. I really do.. but I really adore an empty AK.

Not a bad shot if only I had a better camera with a lens that would have zoomed in.

We got checked in for breakfast and soon it was time for our picture to be taken. Not sure why Donald is no longer outside for pictures... and while I appreciate a pp pic... I hardly think offering this one in a print is worth the money they ask for it.

We were seated in a great spot! Our server was super helpful and friendly. Now it was time for food!!!

I think I may have made up for my lack of food the day before. I know I had more than one plate and the yogurt...OMG! I am sure I had 2 bowls!!!

The characters came around...not once, but twice and there were so few people around that they spent extra time with us. It was awesome! Even the server had little to do and spent time with us.

Then Donald came around. :cool1: He was impressed by "his" medal that I was wearing. :rotfl2:

It was time to wrap up breakfast. We had such a good time eating and playing around with characters. Our server even had a bit of fun... I thought he was going to make the mom at the table next to me upset. I couldn't help but listen in on the conversation. See, I had allowed Zoe to go to the restroom by herself. She knew where it was and the restaurant was not all that busy. However, when the gal next to me asked where the restroom was I tuned in to the servers response. He told her that due to construction in order to use the restroom you have to go outside the restaurant...(ok, gotta listen now for sure cause Zoe!) He went on..giving her tid bits of "you go here.. then there" While I was thinking :scratchin She was listening very intently like she had to catch every twist and turn but I could tell she was getting irritated that she was going to have to make such a trek. Then he told her something like...once you get to the front of the park..you exit out.... That is where I literally :rotfl2: They both looked at me. I apologized for listening and for my outburst. I explained my dd was in the restroom so when I overheard there was a change I took note of what was being said. I also mentioned being "with him" until he started to really get away from the restaurant and when he got to the front of the park... that is where I just lost it. :lmao:

The park had officially opened by this time and Kira and Josh had made it in. They went on EE a couple times while they waited for Zoe and I.

Notice in the first one the marathon runners? How cool is that that some of them stopped to ride EE? According to Kira, the cm's let the runners on ahead of anyone else. It was like a free pass for them. I think they deserved it!!

Next Up: 1/12 - AK/OKW/DTD Part 2

Nice update. Love the character breakfast pics. What a trooper for getting up early after such a full day the day before!

Ann, I bow down to you for getting up that early after the day you had before.

I love the Tusker House breakfast. I didn't know Donald wasn't outside anymore????

Great pics with the characters.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: over the bathroom story.

Nice that they let the racers on in front of every one else. :thumbsup2

I am kinda stubborn... as is dd. (actually both my dd's are) So when we set our mind to something... it happens. This breakfast was important to me. I really do love TH early in the morning. So even though I may have perpetuated the "running on fumes" them by not letting myself catch up on sleep and rest... I would have been heart broken to miss it.

Ann, I bow down to you for getting up that early after the day you had before.

As I mentioned to Bill... I had to. I would have been disappointed to not... but also I have a hard time not meeting goals and getting up early for breakfast that morning was a goal. ;)

I know! I asked and they told me he wasn't outside any more. He was there in October... I haven't seen any reports after January with TH breakfasts. I wonder if he is out out or if it was just that day.

Great pics with the characters.

thanks!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: over the bathroom story.

OMG! It was too funny. Not only my reaction of perking up to listen long enough to then actually burst out laughing.... but the other gal listening like her life depended on it... then slowly becoming frustrated that she would have to trek that far... until relief when I ended the "game" when I started laughing.

Nice that they let the racers on in front of every one else. :thumbsup2

I think it was! :thumbsup2

LOVE Tusker House, although we've never eaten breakfast there, just lunch a few times! Yum!

Love the EE photos...I swear, I contemplate the full JUST so I can ride EE. If I ever run it (which will be a ways off considering I just ran my first half! LOL) I WILL ride EE, it's my favorite ride! :thumbsup2

TH is one of my favorites for sure. I love getting into AK before anyone else. It holds a weird about of magic for me. In line with what I probably should feel walking down mainstreet pr rope drop. :scratchin I do love that too though...

I am in awe of those who can run the full.... and to run more? Like the goofy or dopey? :worship: I have always said never to a full. I know that if I did ever change my mind it would have to be at Disney and I would have to change my approach. I don't normally stop for things in a race...but if I did do the full,I think that stopping to ride EE would be AWESOME! I read about others stopping for pretzels in WS...beer in WS. What a fun way to get 26.2 miles done!!!

First, I love the two marathon runners taking a break to ride Everest.

Second, I also love TH! It is one of my favorite breakfasts in Disney. I have not done a pre rope drop breakfast yet though.

Third, I think I know EXACTLY who your waiter is! Is he the bald guy? About 5'8"? We had him as a server and LOVED him. When I went back the following January my friend asked where the bathroom was and gave the same exact spiel! She was totally believing it and was like we better get going if we have to leave the park. She is insanely gullible lol. Love it.

I really wish I could have seen it! I think by the time Zoe and I were over there it was just too late. I mean.. I think that is the half way point, yes? If so 9:30am puts them running their half at about the 4 hour + mark. There were plenty of people still running when we arrived to AK at 7:45am...but I am sure that it tapered off after that.

Second, I also love TH! It is one of my favorite breakfasts in Disney. I have not done a pre rope drop breakfast yet though.

I love to walk through any park when it is empty. AK is a bit magical to me though and the food is one of my favorite breakfasts. It is a must do for me. I try to go pre rope drop if I can... but just for breakfast is a must!

:rotfl2::rotfl2: Um... I think so. I know he was tall and a rather big guy. (not overweight...just big) I cant remember for sure the hair...but I think he was bald. That is great that he was giving the same spiel. :lmao::lmao:

I'm in! Great report. I run too (in-between injuries) curious about the 1/2 marathon. Looks like fun

Glad you found your way here! :welcome:

Injuries can sure be a bummer :sad2:

I love disney races!! I personally have kinda unofficially decided that at least for now, Disney halfs will be the only ones I do. Have you done a disney race? I am totally hooked. So much fun! So well organized! Sure there are snags here and there, but I love that each person can set out with a different goal in mind and tackle the race in their own unique way. :goodvibes

Is this him? We loved him so much! This photo is from 2012 and he told my friend the bathroom story in 2013 lol.

I love it that you made it to breakfast!

Some CUTE pics of you and Zoe...even if they are sans Donald.

Love the EE photos but I have to admit, just the idea of stopping to ride it and what it would do to my time makes me anxious

:rotfl2: Yup, that would be him! I guess he must tell that story a lot.

I love it that you made it to breakfast!

I think I almost always have TH for breakfast at some point during a trip. I think almost always someone bails on me for it though. Doesn't stop me! I really enjoy going there for breakfast.

Some CUTE pics of you and Zoe...even if they are sans Donald.

It would have been neat to have Donald in them given that I was wearing his medal. At least we saw him inside and he got excited for me there.

I think it is really cool that they were able to do that. Me... I would probably not be able to handle it either. However, given that this would have been sometime shortly after 9am, I am thinking the ride was a goal. I know that prior to the race, I read on the marathon thread that people were making plans to stop. I think it would take a pacing and timing to accomplish it. I mean.. get there too early and you have to wait. Get there too late and well... you are likely to be swept.

Count me in!!

:welcome: Glad you are in!!!

They are the cutest pictures of you and Zoe! Adorable!

I agree - an empty AK is really special!

OMG to the restroom story - you must have been dying! :rotfl2:

Ok so I am FINALLY catching up on your report.

Kouzzina looks delicious! It never really caught my eye or appealed to me, but now that it is closing I am kind of sad I'll never get to eat there....aint that the way it always goes though? :confused3

Too bad that Brown Derby was a disappointment! I hate to hear about Signature restaurants providing a poor experience when they are so expensive...

So fun that you got to be at AK when the marathon runners were coming through! I love that there are runners in the ride picture...I think it would be so fun to stop and ride if I ever did the full, but I'd also be afraid I wouldn't be able to get back out of the seat! :rotfl:
Tusker House is one of my favorite restaurants for all the reasons you listed in your report!

I think any park is...but AK and Mk are my favorites to be in when no one else is.

OMG! It was just too funny! It was a bit embarrassing though to burst out laughing when I wasn't a part of the conversation. :rolleyes1

Yeah, I think that is one thing that makes me want it more. Oh well... maybe something better will be there.

Too bad that Brown Derby was a disappointment! I hate to hear about Signature restaurants providing a poor experience when they are so expensive...

I KNOW others have had good experiences though... so maybe mine was a fluke? It also could have been disappointing because I have FOREVER wanted to dine there.

I knew the runners would be out that morning. It was funny because (and I know I forgot to mention this in my update) but a mom and her daughter were riding the bus that we were and the girl asked what everyone running along the road was doing. It prompted a conversation. The mom had no idea about the marathon... was surprised by it. She told her daughter that all those people were crazy people. If my memory is correct she was also frustrated by how long it was taking us to get from POR to AK....

As for stopping on the ride... yeah. I would probably not be able to get up after I sat. One of the many reasons I don't set out to do a walk run... I have the hardest time making myself go again once I stop.

Tusker House is one of my favorite restaurants for all the reasons you listed in your report!

I LOVE it. I am so excited that dh has agreed (and hopefully won't bail) to enjoying breakfast with me there in October.
