Running on Fumes from Start to Finish

Oh, my gosh, I hear you on the porta potties after the race! I bought the race retreat (won't do it again) for the PHM and believe me, the porta potties there were EVERY bit as bad! I don't have this running problem, so I can't imagine the poor people trying to make it in there by the skins of their teeth!

I didn't stop to use the facilities at all for 13.1 miles, and I didn't realize how difficult finding a clean one would be after the race!

I had never attempted to use one after before. I think from now on (unless I myself am experiencing a dire problem) I will be attempting to find a real restroom. I am with you not realizing how difficult finding a clean one would be!!!

Well, glad I didn't try to use the Port o potties after the PHM, and even more glad I've never had that running problem! :worship:

Glad you were able to finish strong and make it through! I totally play those mind games with myself too "Oh if I just slow down a little here I don't have to walk til the next mile" kind of thing!

I love your "costume"! That is about as elaborate as I will get too-I have to be comfortable to run a half! Kudos to the people who run in elaborate costumes because I couldn't do it...

They are pretty nice, but yeah... I don't know that the two of you would get along. CWX is the brand... they work very well at aiding in recovery. I don't think my muscles hurt at all... not one bit after the half. Steve was so proud of his and he wanted me to wear some too. It is not something I would have every bought for myself.

No, they probably wouldn't work. Red itchy legs....not fun! It is funny though as it really varies by brand how much the stuff irritates me. My go to brand is in the 10-12% category for my tights and capri's and have never bugged me. I was an idiot a month or 2 ago and bought a pair of tights on final sale from a different brand. Fully lined and so soft and cozy. Lining is only 9%. Body is 26% but I figured I'd be protected by the lining. Which, I probably am...unless it rains on me in them (which was kind of the point of getting them). Holy irritated thighs! CWX is about 20% I think so best not to even attempt.

I almost never wear anything but skirts. In the winter it is over longer leggings and in the summer it is by themselves or over a short. Most skirts are pretty light weight and hard to tell you have them on. My brooks skirt is more substantial and I could see where maybe that would feel like too much.

I think it's the whole idea of 2 waistbands that gets me as much as anything :rotfl2: that and that the cute themed skirts are generally in a style that aren't super flattering on me.

Try not to fret. If a pair of shorts and tank is what you will be most comfy in then that is what you should do. :goodvibes

That is likely what it will be. I am so totally in love with my new knickers at the moment. So much so that I've been wearing them to the gym and to run when it's been warm enough for them (running). My old Gym capri's were about toast anyway, too high in lycra and worn out beyond belief. But you can only wear really obnoxious green knickers so many times in a row to the same places without people thinking you never wash your clothes. :rotfl2:

So yesterday I picked up a new, equally as obnoxious and cool, patterned pair. :thumbsup2

I really hope they come out with a short in this line as the side pockets are the best thing since sliced bread. I am a little worried the knicker will be too hot in the summer but will definitely try it and see. If they don't, and it's too hot, it will be regular shorts for sure and I do not need any new ones of those! If that ends up being the case I'll just hope that one of the 2 tanks that work best for me, comes out in a fun pattern or I will be SOOO boring. Much as I love the raw threads I know I'll regret running in it for wicking and breathing compared to my normal so will just bring it to wear in the parks after.

Of course, if they make a skirt in this line with that fabric....in a straight cut that has these pockets well that could change everything. It's really horrible as they release new stuff all the time. Bad for the pocketbook!

I still have to try the skirt the E's got me for xmas, it just hasn't been warm enough yet (built in shorts) but I did see there is a cool patterned version online on sale. Tempting to try it. I am pretty sure what they got will be ok, it's the same line as my tights and capri's, I just like these knickers better. Question is, do I order the patterned version and return the basic black they got me, or keep that too? LOL!

At any rate....I've decided not to fret and I'll stick with fabrics I know work. I cannot fathom doing a test run in a tutu, just not going there. :rotfl: Wimp I know.

No matter what, I figure I'll just get a really fabulous hair bow for my ponytail :rotfl2: better than nothing right?

I like that I can mix and match. I didn't get around to doing that today... I need to sit down and pick between the three races they have pictures of me for.

and unlike photopass, apparently they don't self destruct after 45 days! :thumbsup2

I also think it is because when you start to negotiate with yourself (and by you... I mean me, cause perhaps I am the only person who actually negotiates with themselves) You negotiate telling yourself "ok, at the next mile mark I can take a walk break" Then you hit that mile and think "well, that wasn't so bad I will do it at the next mile" Then this goes on... and all of a sudden you have been talking to yourself about a walk break for 3.. 4.. 5 miles. This isn't a few minutes of it on your mind but rather 10s of minutes. So now say you waited a few miles or more to take that walk break.. once the race is done your memory gets skewed because you just remember thinking about walking for the last ??? minutes.

Everyone negotiates...whether it's a walk break, or picking up the pace, or going just a little bit further or toughing out the rain or whatever. Or at least I do. Not all the time but sometimes for sure! It makes it go faster

I don't notice it until after an hour... after two it is really noticeable.

Mine seems much more tied to the humidity levels and overall temperature than total time out. They calm down very quickly though.

Well, glad I didn't try to use the Port o potties after the PHM, and even more glad I've never had that running problem! :worship:

Maybe it had to do with this being part of the dopey weekend? Maybe people were struggling with that more than usual? I know I used a PaP on the course during the PHM in 2013 and it was completely fine.

Glad you were able to finish strong and make it through! I totally play those mind games with myself too "Oh if I just slow down a little here I don't have to walk til the next mile" kind of thing!

My mind can be my biggest asset when running or my worst enemy. If I think I can... I can push through just about anything. If I think I can't... well...

I love your "costume"! That is about as elaborate as I will get too-I have to be comfortable to run a half! Kudos to the people who run in elaborate costumes because I couldn't do it...

I do love to see the costumes. I really am grateful to those who wear them cause they add to my entire RD experience. I just have to be comfortable... and skirts and a tank top are my favorite to run in. I have been thinking about costumes for the AHM... and picked the character I want to "be" It is such a shame that I am not able to wear the running bra/tank thing cause it would work perfectly... it would be really comfy cause it would be less clothing and cute.. well, problem is not cute on me cause 4 kids has not left me with a pretty belly. :rotfl2:

No, they probably wouldn't work. Red itchy legs....not fun! It is funny though as it really varies by brand how much the stuff irritates me. My go to brand is in the 10-12% category for my tights and capri's and have never bugged me. I was an idiot a month or 2 ago and bought a pair of tights on final sale from a different brand. Which, I probably am...unless it rains on me in them (which was kind of the point of getting them). Holy irritated thighs! CWX is about 20% I think so best not to even attempt.

Oh! :scared: I can't even imagine! I have had some chaffing in some not so pleasant areas before and that was bad enough... the red itchy all over... You poor thing!

I think it's the whole idea of 2 waistbands that gets me as much as anything :rotfl2: that and that the cute themed skirts are generally in a style that aren't super flattering on me.

Some sparkle skirts do have the built in...so just one waistband... but then you are looking at more of the fabric you don't want. There are still tons of cute athletic cut skirts out there... but you have awesome legs... so I bet shorts work well for you. I am just trying to cover my stubby legs and still be cool (as in not hot) when I run in skirts.

That is likely what it will be. I am so totally in love with my new knickers at the moment. So much so that I've been wearing them to the gym and to run when it's been warm enough for them (running). My old Gym capri's were about toast anyway, too high in lycra and worn out beyond belief. :rotfl2:

So yesterday I picked up a new, equally as obnoxious and cool, patterned pair. :thumbsup2

Cool! I am so sorry though that you probably got there so much later than you had hoped to. Did you get what you wanted returned... returned/ exchanged?

I really hope they come out with a short in this line as the side pockets are the best thing since sliced bread.
Side pockets are great! I have a couple skirts that have them in leg of the shorts and then I have a few that have them in the skirt portion. I actually prefer the skirt portion because I can fit my hands in quickly and not have to worry about pulling the skirt up to get at the pocket.

You won't be boring! I know that there is a wide range of what people run in... everything from just cute outfits to full on costumes. I even saw one guy once running just in a pair of shorts.. no shirt or shoes!

Much as I love the raw threads I know I'll regret running in it for wicking and breathing compared to my normal so will just bring it to wear in the parks after.

I ran in mine for the donald and it was.. ok. Actually nothing works perfectly. If you saw my pictures from ToT you would see my "perfect" drifit skirt and tank look soaked... cause they were. I plan to run in a rawthreads tank for the ToT... and I am just hoping it works good enough.. cause that race is definitely HOT!

Of course, if they make a skirt in this line with that fabric....in a straight cut that has these pockets well that could change everything. It's really horrible as they release new stuff all the time. Bad for the pocketbook!

It definitely is! I also can't imagine that it is easy on your pocket book given that you can't just run to Target or Walmart to get some clothes.

LOL!

:rotfl: I would say keep it and get the patterned one too. ;)

At any rate....I've decided not to fret and I'll stick with fabrics I know work. I cannot fathom doing a test run in a tutu, just not going there. :rotfl: Wimp I know.

:rotfl2: Tutus are so darn cute. I was lucky enough to have someone make one for me once.. but sadly, it wanted to get a little too personal with me the entire race. I think my stubby legs tend to just not be great for tutus.

No matter what, I figure I'll just get a really fabulous hair bow for my ponytail :rotfl2: better than nothing right?

Or bands... there are tons of sparkle bands. There will definitely be some at the expo. I was amazed to find some at walgreens that were on clearance for a couple $$. Such a find and they work really well on my hair.

and unlike photopass, apparently they don't self destruct after 45 days! :thumbsup2

Well, you get constant emails saying they are about to... but so far mine are sticking around. I think I read someone mention they sit there for year or so...

Everyone negotiates...whether it's a walk break, or picking up the pace, or going just a little bit further or toughing out the rain or whatever. Or at least I do. Not all the time but sometimes for sure! It makes it go faster

And sometimes it is even to negotiate having to go home. Today was so beautiful I just wanted to run longer... but sadly had to tell myself I could stay out only so long.

Mine seems much more tied to the humidity levels and overall temperature than total time out. They calm down very quickly though.

I think that is the main factor with mine too...I can go say a few miles in the heat no problem... but if I go 6 that is when I start to see it. Now 6 in cool weather though and there isn't a problem.

Your outfit is too cute! Love it!

Ugh to feeling like your legs were dead. That is the worst feeling ever. So glad you were able to feel better my mile seven. The only 1/2 marathon I ever ran was entirely hilly and the shoes I ordered were too small. My feet were KILLING me the whole way. I don't know what was worse - the hills or the shoes. :rotfl2:

Nice time! Love the medal. And OMG to the porta potties. I have visited many porta potties over the years and the only thing worse than a dirty one is a dirty one in the heat and humidity. :faint:

Some sparkle skirts do have the built in...so just one waistband... but then you are looking at more of the fabric you don't want. There are still tons of cute athletic cut skirts out there... but you have awesome legs... so I bet shorts work well for you. I am just trying to cover my stubby legs and still be cool (as in not hot) when I run in skirts.

There are tons that are cut right and cute, yes. Not Disney themed though :lmao: Which honestly kind of makes me mad. As I mentioned I have 2. the one though I went with briefs and while I love it....I have a feeling, that long, in that heat..there could be chafing and the fabric just isn't as "good" as the other so as it hits my legs in the heat...yeah, might be an issue. I'll train with it though and see. The other skirt is the opposite as it's the shorts that might cause issues. :rotfl2: I guess it comes down to spending $60-80 on a sparkle skirt that is themed to what I want but has way more fabric than I'd like and has limited wearing opportunities or something from Athleta that if it doesn't work I can return with no questions asked.

:rotfl2:

Cool! I am so sorry though that you probably got there so much later than you had hoped to. Did you get what you wanted returned... returned/ exchanged?

Don't be sorry! I am not!!! I had so much fun. It was interesting. I had a choice to make, either run my errand, or squish in a run. With my concerns about the quads and adductor I decided it was probably in my best interest to not push it. Which makes it a bit of a backwards taper but I really really think it was the right call. Had the massage and YOW there were issues but I think he made huge progress and they felt SOOOO much better.

As a result I will do a longer run today than I'd originally planned but the overall miles for the taper I think will be right. It's SOOO nice out that well, we want to be out in it. I'll only run once after that though before the race. Ideally tuesday if possible.

I did get everything done. Because I was eyeing another obnoxious print, I really wanted to try it on. They had one left in my size, I made them take it off the mannequin. :lmao: I had a couple things to return (stuff I'd ordered online and didn't love the colors), got the capri's, an amazing 1/4 zip for this transitional weather and a pair of socks. AND they are going to try and fix the top I mentioned that had developed a hole below the zipper line. They don't carry that exact top any more and I love it. They said basically why not try to fix it, it's free and if I don't like it I can still return it after that. So I went for it and the 1/4 zip will work as that weight

Side pockets are great! I have a couple skirts that have them in leg of the shorts and then I have a few that have them in the skirt portion. I actually prefer the skirt portion because I can fit my hands in quickly and not have to worry about pulling the skirt up to get at the pocket.

That's what I love about these. Not under anything, nice and deep and easy to get at but super secure. My regular shorts and the 2 skirts I have just have one back pocket. Which holds my phone just fine but I love the side ones as then I have options and the phone is far easier to get in and out of these, plus I can actually carry and access fuel if I want.

of course bear in mind that I am so short waisted, these actually cover my belly button, unlike the model. LOL!

But, with where the pockets are, they could definitely make them into a short.
Given how fast they are selling out I am hopeful.

Well....when you dump water over your head...you will be soaked :lmao:

I know what you mean though. I just found last summer, in my 80 degree runs (or upper 70's for that matter and we may have done 1 or 2 that got close to or hit 90) that the silverescent fabric never "felt" wet on me, no matter what and even if it was. And it dried uber fast. The sports bra? Not so much. Waistband of my shorts :lmao: The worst for me in that heat is we would generally hit the restroom at the end and it's when I stop that the sweat comes on like crazy...especially on my thighs. BLEH.

It definitely is! I also can't imagine that it is easy on your pocket book given that you can't just run to Target or Walmart to get some clothes.

Nope. I really need new pants for hanging around the house and have been procrastinating. I bought a raw threads pair but just don't love them so think I'll sell them, and the capri's from there, online as they are too new and unworn to just give away.

:rotfl: I would say keep it and get the patterned one too. ;)

I may. It does seem like a lot more fabric than my shorts though so...I dunno.

:rotfl2: Tutus are so darn cute. I was lucky enough to have someone make one for me once.. but sadly, it wanted to get a little too personal with me the entire race. I think my stubby legs tend to just not be great for tutus.

I don't think it's leg length, I think it probably has more to do with heat and stride...I could TOTALLY see that happening to me. UGH.

Or bands... there are tons of sparkle bands. There will definitely be some at the expo. I was amazed to find some at walgreens that were on clearance for a couple $$. Such a find and they work really well on my hair.

They slide off my head. I've tried a ton of different ones (though not the raw threads) and if they have much of a grip they break my hair, or they slide off. Love the look but...I will probably buy one at the expo but don't want to pay shipping for one band that probably won't work. I did get a cute one that I've not worn yet but don't really expect it to work well.

I think that is the main factor with mine too...I can go say a few miles in the heat no problem... but if I go 6 that is when I start to see it. Now 6 in cool weather though and there isn't a problem.

in 80+ degrees...I'd see it 2 miles in. It wouldn't get worse but I'd notice it.l

I am so sorry I am so late joining in, Ann, but the spa Tom went to, is really nice and I spend all weekend with him, which makes me fall behind on the DIS more than usual lately.

GREAT race photos! I really really admire you for being able to get through such a race. :thumbsup2

Your outfit is too cute! Love it!

Thank you. I am pretty sure I will be recycling it for the DLH. Like 99.9% sure. Only... probably will forgo the tights and opt for just the skirt and shorts under. (that sparkle skirt is the kind without the shorts.. I opted for that so that I could either put long tights on or shorts)

Ugh to feeling like your legs were dead. That is the worst feeling ever. So glad you were able to feel better my mile seven.

I really think I was tired... overly so. It was just weird overwhelming panic almost as I went under the MK tolls... the "OMG, I might not be able to finish this" By mile 7 I got myself more in control... just had to settle for taking some walk breaks.

The only 1/2 marathon I ever ran was entirely hilly and the shoes I ordered were too small. My feet were KILLING me the whole way. I don't know what was worse - the hills or the shoes. :rotfl2:

That is HORRIBLE! Hills are bad enough but shoes that don't work are the worst thing EVER. You should really try a Disney race sometime. They are not all that hilly... and a lot of fun. :goodvibes

Nice time! Love the medal.

Thank you. Given how I was feeling I am amazed that I didn't take much longer. I am happy with my time. And the medal?! All of them were super cute from that weekend. The donald and minnie were my favorites. I just wish I had done the minnie and got that medal.
And OMG to the porta potties. I have visited many porta potties over the years and the only thing worse than a dirty one is a dirty one in the heat and humidity. :faint:

They were just gross... gross normally, but this was beyond anything I would ever have imagined.

Well, I love the sparkle skirt I got... and I may get another for the avengers... but for me they don't' have a lot of wear ability outside of disney races. And honestly, there are sales where I can pick up other skirts that are actually better quality and spend a whole lot less than I can on a sparkle skirt.

I am still sorry that you had to choose because of me. BUT... I really enjoyed myself, so thank you! :goodvibes
Had the massage and YOW there were issues but I think he made huge progress and they felt SOOOO much better.

Glad that massage helped!

If this is the run I am thinking it was... OMG! I can't tell you how jealous you made me!!! That was your longest run, right? You are so ready for your race... and really even if you did do a half tomorrow I think it would not be "not pretty" :goodvibes

I did get everything done. Because I was eyeing another obnoxious print, I really wanted to try it on. This sounds like excellent customer service. :scratchin I may have to take a serious look at them (we are talking athleta, right?)

oh..yeah.. right... :rotfl2::rotfl2: There is that.

I know what you mean though. I just found last summer, in my 80 degree runs (or upper 70's for that matter and we may have done 1 or 2 that got close to or hit 90) that the silverescent fabric never "felt" wet on me, no matter what and even if it was. Yeah... that icky cool down sweat. I have never looked into exactly why that happens. So weird.... and in the humidity... it just doesn't go anywhere and you just are soaked. Bleh is right!

Nope. I really need new pants for hanging around the house and have been procrastinating. I bought a raw threads pair but just don't love them so think I'll sell them, and the capri's from there, online as they are too new and unworn to just give away.

I recently joined a facebook group where people are selling off their running gear. Not sure if it is actual branded stuff or just things they made. I don't know if you were thinking fb or not... but seems to me that things go quickly.

This is one thing I won't buy online either... I have attempted far too many bands that have only done just what you mention. I think my hair is just always breaking off... but the sliding off my head part... I can't run and have my band flip off my head (which has actually happened) I have 3 bands in total that I can wear that don't... so I hear ya on checking out the expo before committing to one. Course... I always look at the expo and then feel like I should try it on before I purchase it. But...I am weird about putting things on my head in public... so never have... so never make the purchase.

I am so sorry I am so late joining in, Ann, but the spa Tom went to, is really nice and I spend all weekend with him, which makes me fall behind on the DIS more than usual lately.

Don't be sorry!!! If I were you, I would be soaking up that spa too!!!

How is he doing, btw? I hope he is feeling better.
GREAT race photos! I really really admire you for being able to get through such a race. :thumbsup2

Thank you, Karin. :goodvibes

Well, I love the sparkle skirt I got... and I may get another for the avengers... but for me they don't' have a lot of wear ability outside of disney races. And honestly, there are sales where I can pick up other skirts that are actually better quality and spend a whole lot less than I can on a sparkle skirt.

I almost wore the ones the E's got me for Christmas on Sunday. I had the capri's on, Jeff told me I was going to be too warm and I tried on the skirt. The skirt was SO much warmer than the capri's it was bizarre. Partially because of the semi compression on the shorts I am sure and me just not being used to something that hits and is snug like that, there. I decided that a 9 mile run was probably not the best way to test out the skirt and whether the shorts leg grips irritated me. They are silicon so probably ok but you never know. And for the record, the capri's with a tank were perfect for the weather!

I am still sorry that you had to choose because of me. BUT... I really enjoyed myself, so thank you! :goodvibes

I think it was meant to be and really really for the best all around. I really enjoyed myself too. Didn't enjoy the traffic back, between hitting rush hour and multiple accidents I ended up with a few crazy short cuts but I got it all done and on time!

Glad that massage helped!

It really did. My legs felt great on Sunday. I did notice a tiny bit of soreness on my outer right knee towards the end which I guess is the IT band. Not at all sore to the touch and not a big deal but something to be mindful of I guess.

If this is the run I am thinking it was... OMG! I can't tell you how jealous you made me!!! That was your longest run, right? You are so ready for your race... and really even if you did do a half tomorrow I think it would not be "not pretty" :goodvibes

Yeah it was. Jeff really wanted to do 9. I was a bit concerned it was too close to the race but given that I'd not run all week, I really wanted to do it too and it was so incredible out. It was a great run, I was very happy with it.

This sounds like excellent customer service. :scratchin I may have to take a serious look at them (we are talking athleta, right?)

Yep! Unbelievable customer service.

Those are cute! I bet they would make a great short!

I think they would. I really like my regular ones which are more traditional but those side pockets would make me switch!

I recently joined a facebook group where people are selling off their running gear. Not sure if it is actual branded stuff or just things they made. I don't know if you were thinking fb or not... but seems to me that things go quickly.

I was thinking ebay but hadn't really got that far in my thinking either.

Kudos to you on being able to run after such little sleep and your fall. :thumbsup2

I adore your outfit...you look adorable.

:scared: on the porta-potty description.

Steve did look determined in that photo crossing the finish line.

It was a nice day! So cool to be able to get to run in a tank top! I have yet to do that...so far it has been just a bit too cold when I run.

I think it was meant to be and really really for the best all around. I really enjoyed myself too. Didn't enjoy the traffic back, between hitting rush hour and multiple accidents I ended up with a few crazy short cuts but I got it all done and on time!

UGH on the rush hour traffic! I hit some too... so ended up getting off hwy 167 and just taking side streets.

It really did. My legs felt great on Sunday. I did notice a tiny bit of soreness on my outer right knee towards the end which I guess is the IT band. Not at all sore to the touch and not a big deal but something to be mindful of I guess.

mindful is a good way of putting it. I have a couple little spots that I have to be mindful of.... nothing alarming, but I will notice if I start to slack in how I am landing. If I am striking to hard...supinating... pronating... etc.

Yeah it was. Jeff really wanted to do 9. I was a bit concerned it was too close to the race but given that I'd not run all week, I really wanted to do it too and it was so incredible out. It was a great run, I was very happy with it.

Again... super jealous... but so happy for you!!! :cool1::cool1:

Well, I am sure no matter where you choose to sell...they will go quickly.

Thanks. :goodvibes I learned a good lesson that hopefully I will not let happen again.

I adore your outfit...you look adorable.

awe, thanks. I just felt like a tired sweaty mess... I guess having a cute outfit really can help overall attitude.

:scared: on the porta-potty description.

Yeah..:crazy2: never again if I can help it will I try one of those after a race again.

Steve did look determined in that photo crossing the finish line.

Didn't he? :rotfl2: I didn't share mine... I looked like "omg, I might die soon... just drag me cross the finish line then I will sleep or puke.. not sure which or in what order"

Well, I was the only person in a tank. :rotfl2: But it was perfect. Lots of folks in shorts and skirts though.

I am having a mild freak out about Saturday's weather though. It can't seem to make up it's mind between showers and full out rain, but will definitely be mid 40's and 19mph winds. I truly hate running in my rain jacket. It's halfway decent for non running (like it saved my bacon in Dec/Jan at Disney) but I think it's lost some of the waterproof (and like an idiot I didn't register it as I've now realized it had a lifetime warranty) and it definitely doesn't breathe. Last time I wore it I was soaked and felt like I fought with it most of the time. Too big, too bulky, too warm and too wet too boot.

So I am contemplating getting a new jacket. I know you shouldn't wear something for a race you've never worn but I am wondering if I had one of the really light running jackets, which are only water resistant, if the combo of that would be good for blocking wind as well as delaying how wet my wicking shirt gets. They are so light I can't see it bothering me even if I've not run in it before but if it's really pouring it may not help. Question is whether I'm better off with it on, or off.

Then again the truly waterproof ones are goretex and unless it's 20-30 out, too warm! I did find one that seems to fit both bills but more than I want to spend but will probably get it in the fall.

Yes, I noticed it a little last night. Which honestly was a longer run than I really wanted but hopefully it will be ok. I have a massage tonight and PT tomorrow before we head up so combine that with major stretching tonight I should be good.

That doesn't make for a good run when you are in something like that.

I doubt running for the first time it it could be that much of an issue...except for if it is not only rainy but warm. mid 40s isn't particularly cold or warm for that matter. If it is the ones I am thinking of... they kinda will keep you dry but also trap in heat.

I have yet to find anything that is affordable and waterproof. So I wear my light winter running jackets. They at least keep me warm and breath. Then if I am wet...well, I don't really feel it until I cool down. Then it is just important to get into dry clothing.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers! Good race vibes for you!!! Have a great time!!!

Nope. Cool thing though, it may be covered by warranty! I checked the website and it appears it doesn't matter that I didn't register it. It's billed as waterproof, breathable and non clammy. 3 things it definitely is not at the moment lol. I spoke to the warranty rep who confirmed when I bought it (2006, I was shocked it was that old lol) and that yes it was covered and that the jackets have evolved a lot since then and I'd qualify for a replacement of either that jacket or maybe even a different one that was a better fit for my need. I'll believe it when I see it but am going to send it in. Have nothing to lose!

Yep, I always struggle at that temp. Chilly when you start but you warm up quick. I often feel that I need to have only half of my body in the warmer gear. So if I have full tights on, I want a lighter top, capri's or knickers maybe a warmer top and then in shorts in the spring, light long sleeves at times. So the overall balance is there.

I don't own any winter running jackets (or any running jackets period, until yesterday), have always just done layered tops and on the rare occasion, a vest. But those tops are are either a bit too warm (better for 30's or low 40's), or not quite warm enough (low to mid 50's and breezy) lol. I had picked up a 1/4 zip one that is "just right" solo or over a tank, but it'd be too warm under a jacket and I think too wet solo if it rains like they say. Might be ok but don't feel like risking it. I tested it the other night and while it was fine in the sprinkles I made the mistake of wearing it with those other tights and for whatever reason EVERY top rides up with those, they are super slippery. I was tugging it down the whole time, drove me nuts. It probably wouldn't with my normal tights, and I know is ok with the knickers but under a jacket...I don't think so and I don't want to fight with it. I had the perfect outfit for the temp but not for the rain. Oh well.

I ended up picking up 2 new things. The Brooks LSD jacket I'd been eyeing and a new long sleeve tee. The jacket gets amazing reviews from runners world and several other spots. It's wind & water resistant with a huge mesh panel (covered) in the back and is super super light, rated for 40-65 degrees . Perfect. I will most likely wear that over the long sleeve version of my favorite running and workout tee and tank (the new shirt I got). I have several in the tank and short sleeve and have been meaning to pick up a LS for along time but, was holding off as they are spendy. But I love them and generally live in them. It's quite a bit lighter than my main winter LS top but breathes wicks well and I think better than my super thin ones for both warmth and breathability. SS might be better for heat regulation but I can't stand the feel of the rain jacket on my skin directly, hence the LS. We will see though. I'm also bringing Evan's rain jacket which is waterproof if it's more monsoon like and then short sleeve and tank options for under that. Or the 1/4 zip if it's barely sprinkling. I feel like I am packing the kitchen sink. And my hat! LOL. I bought Jeff a hat. Supposedly we get a tech one but he's been running his whole life in cotton ones that get soaked and he really needed a water resistant breathable one. Best part was that when I went to pay (REI) it turns out that today is the day we get our dividends and the 1x 20% off coupon. I had no idea. Cashier asked me if i wanted to use both on the jacket. SCORE!

Yes, I realize I'm overthinking. Jeff is ready to throttle me! However, he is also happy I mentioned it as he's bringing 2 jacket options as a result and wishing he'd gotten a new one. He has a windbreaker, and a goretex from RR that's waterproof but not breathable so was basically in the same boat.

I did find a super cool one that looks very light and is waterproof..Jeff will probably get it for himself as if they replace mine, what they send may fully cover my needs but the other one I found is online only.

That is excellent news!!! I am thinking that in the last 8 years they probably have gotten a lot better.... so you should come away with a pretty nice jacket. :thumbsup2

That is so true! I hate that first mile or so... I can be down right cold. By mile two though... my fingers are even warm (if they have been frozen prior to that).

I have probably told you over and over about my love of my target jackets. I am cheap... $40 is a heck of a deal (compared to ones at RR that are up over $100) But... really, it isn't just the price. They are warm and do keep me feeling dry. I ran last night and I got SOAKED... but the jacket kept me comfortable. I also have been able to run in sub freezing temps in it. Course... I can't really wear them when the temp gets closer to 50. I wonder if it is fabric you can wear though... :scratchin maybe not...

That is indeed a score! That looks like a much better rainy/warm weather jacket. I think it is hard to be able to keep dry and not overheat. And the hat... that reminds me I need a water resistant one. My princess one works well enough to keep water out of my eyes... but something better would be nice.

Guys are funny... Steve hates how much I overthink everything... but in the end is grateful that I do because how much better things work when I do.

Light and waterproof is good. :thumbsup2

Once Steve finished, we decided to let Kira, Josh and Zoe head to Epcot while we rode the RD bus back to POR.

Apparently, that was not at all difficult for them to get to. (I worried since we were in a parking lot how they could get to the park). The only thing I know they did was ride TT.

Meanwhile, Steve and I sat on the bus and waited to head back to our room. It wasn't too long and we were on our way.

When we arrived back to the room, the first thing I expected to see was Alex awake and ready for the day. This was not the case. This meant that not only did Steve and I need to shower and get ready for breakfast, but so did Alex. I had not planned for this when picking a time for breakfast.

We tried to hurry the best we could. Steve was moving rather slow and so was Alex. I was not feeling up to being task master. I was starting to feel a tad stressed though about getting to breakfast on time since we were quickly approaching the time of the reservation.

As we left the room, Steve and I took a turn toward the parking lot since we were driving the rental to breakfast. Alex had not paid attention to our instructions. He turned the opposite direction. Leading our small pack, I did not notice. I reached the car and sat inside. Soon Steve got into the car. Then we waited. We waited some more. Oh, yes... and we waited some more. I was not sure what could have happened to my dear son. The parking lot was almost visible from our room. I knew it could not take him THAT long to reach the car, so I decided to go hunt for him. Given that we were running very late by this point and that I didn't feel like walking any more than I had to I was not happy to have to hunt for him. POR is not the smallest of resorts. I did find him though and we go back to the car and on our way.

On our way but I neglected to realize that marathon weekend had impacted what roads were open. By the time we reach BW, we were late. VERY late. I think 40 minutes? And by this time, Kira and Josh were getting very antsy waiting on us. However, there was not much I could do. Parking was a challenge. Unlike other resorts where we just showed our band or the resort slip from POR we had to answer a bunch of questions. Finally we were allowed to park. It seemed as though it was not a close walk. I hustled, but neither the guys were willing to do so.

When we finally arrived, Kouzzina had closed its doors for breakfast. We were told that since they still had customers though and that since we had had a reservation (that Kira, Josh and Zoe had actually made it on time for)they would still serve us. Given that Kouzzina is closing I am really glad that they were able to accommodate us given that I will never be able to dine here again.

There really was not that many people in the restaurant and our server was quite distracted. I seem to recall items that we ordered not actually being brought to the table until we reminded her. Still, it was a good breakfast.

Josh's waffles were amazing! I got a little bite and would really have liked more!

I got my "usual"

I wasn't able to eat all of my breakfast. I am not sure why my stomach just didn't want much. Steve was feeling the same way. So neither of us could eat everything.

After we were done, we went outside onto the boardwalk. Alex went to take left overs to the car and Josh went to search in the bushes near the lake. That boy can't stay out of bushes...always looking for critters. I love him so I deal with it... but really I would prefer he didn't do it.

Meanwhile, the rest of us watched the show. Show? Yes, local birds that decided that empty yet set tables outside were a perfect spot for a little mischief. The almost seemed to work together. There were a couple birds that were taking packets of sweetener out of the dish and flipping them onto the table. Other birds then would fly off with them and try and open them. There were birds on the awning with lots of packet... trying ever so hard to get out whatever reward they could. The table cloth and center piece were also a target for these birds. They picked at it until the entire table looked as though... well, as though a flock of birds had spent some time making a mess of it. Finally a cm came out and we explained what was happening. She quickly shoed them away and cleaned up the tables.

It was taking Alex some time and given his misturn earlier I worried. Just about the time I was getting ready to go hunt him down, he returned. We then collected Josh and walked to Epcot.

Once in Epcot we walked around WS a bit. For whatever reason, what I was really craving was an adult beverage. Nothing with hard alcohol mind you, but something... There in UK, I found a hard pare cider. OMG! That hit the spot so much more than the food. It made me feel so much better. I am not entirely sure why.

We walked a bit more and Steve decided he could not go on. He insisted that he needed to be taken back to POR.

I talked Kira into riding with me. So we left Josh, Alex and Zoe in Epcot while we ran Steve back to the room so he could nap.

While we were gone, they rode... TT.

Once we got back to POR we left Steve and then took the bus back to Epcot.

I think we must have all had fp+ reservations for TT, because we too then rode TT before meeting back up with the rest of our group.

Speed reading now because I have to review my music and get to church. Your breakfast looks so delicious and there's nothing worse than having that wonderful food in front of you but not really feeling like eating. Boo! Because the next time you are starving you think about it. :rotfl:

It was a good breakfast and normally I can gobble it up. I think one thing I hate about eating at disney (yes, maybe the only thing) is that I often cant finish it all and then attempt to take it back to the room where it just goes to waste.

I'm glad you finally made it to breakfast, but sorry you weren't able to eat much. And I'm happy you got one last meal there...I know you are disappointed it is closing. Those waffles do look really good.

Josh and his critters. Does he do that often at the parks?

I'm glad you all got to ride Test Track, even if not all together.
