Running List of MYW Observations

The resources on this board for the new magic your way tickets are just outstanding. So far, though, it seems that what is really most useful is a little scattered. That is, once you understand the basics, what are details behind the basics; put another way, what observations do you have about how the MYW tickets can be used to save money. If people are interested, I thought I'd start a thread and start it off. Here are some of the things I've observed, and I'll start with the obvious and more to the less obvious:

1) The plus options and the no-expire options are fixed price, so, obviously, the per-day cost for these options gets cheaper and cheaper as the number of days on your basic ticket gets higher and higher.

2) Once you get past 5 days on the basic tickets, the extra days start to get so cheap as to be virtually free. This is particularly true of the advance purchase passes -- the MYW with park hopping, MYW with magic plus, and MYW with premium. After 5 days, it is literally pennies per extra day. Accordingly, if you're not adding on the no-expiration option, you should purchase the pass that corresponds to the MOST days you might POSSIBLY use within the 14-day window. Plan accordingly -- if you were trying to figure out a restaurant to visit on your first night of arrival, but weren't planning to visit any parks, don't rule out Crystal Palace. For just $1 you can get that extra day to get in the park. The big caveat here is that if YOU MIGHT add no expiration, those extra days start to get more expensive.

3) Regarding adding the no-expiration option. If it comes time for you to leave WDW and you haven't used all the days on your MYW pass, you have a decision to make whether to pay for the no expire option. Even if you have only one day left on your MYW passes, as long as you know you'll be back at WDW sometime in the future, you should go ahead and pay for the no-expiration option SO LONG AS the original duration of your pass was 5 days or less. At this rate, the cost of the no-extension option will be no more than $37, which is almost certainly less than you'll ever be able to buy a one-day admission ever again in the future. If your original pass was a 6 day pass, it MIGHT make sense to pay for the no-extension option if you have one day left on the pass AND its a park hopper pass OR you bought a pass that had pluses. If your original pass was a 7 day pass, it will definitely make sense to pay for the no-expiration option if you have 2 or more unused days on the pass. If your original pass was a 10 day pass, it will make sense to pay for the no-expiration option only if you have 3 or more days left.

4) There is very little reason EVER to puchase a 5 day pass with plus option and the no expiration option. The assumption here is that you've shelled out the money for the no expiration option because you intend to come back and use the ticket again. The difference in price between a 5 day pass with plus option and no expiration and a 6 day pass with plus option and no expiration is only $13. The differnece in price between a 5 day pass with plus option and no expiration and a 7 day pass with plus option and no expiration is only $26. In both of these cases you not only get an extra day at the parks, but you get an extr plus. In short, if you buy a 5 day pass with plus option and no expiration, realize that for just $26 you could have had a pass that would never expire in the future and would give you 2 full days in the parks and 2 additional plusses (a value of as much as $180).

5) At current advance purchase prices, the 4 day park hoppers and the 5 day park hoppers are cheaper than the MYW equivalents. But, note, if you have $210 or $250 to put toward tickets, there may be a MYW situation that might work better for you.

How's that for a start? I'm sure that other have noticed little tidbits about these passes.
