So unfortunately I've hit a bit of a snag with my training... My left ankle just isn't feeling better after the fun run, and as much as it pains me to abandon my schedule, I don't want to run on it until I've had it checked out. I have an appointment with the physio tomorrow, so fingers crossed!
In the meantime, I thought I would do very broad overview of what the actual trip might entail...
First things first, I'm working on the assumption that the TOT 10 miler will be on at the same time of year in 2014 ie last weekend in September. Also, I will have to be back in time to go to a wedding on the other side of the country in mid-October, so it only gives me about 2 weeks to play with, which realistically is all I'll be able to afford anyway! I'm also still assuming that my mum (and possibly both parents) will be joining me, but DH won't.
My parents will no doubt meet me in Melbourne on the way through, since I don't believe there are any direct flights to the US from Perth. They may stay overnight, in which case I might go into the city a day early and we can all stay there overnight - no point having them make the trek all the way to my place just for 1 night.
We'll probably get the most direct flights we can from Melbourne to Orlando, and aim to arrive on the Wednesday or Thursday before the run. We'll want to give ourselves enough time to acclimatise, but not so much time that we'll be tempted to spend too much time in the parks wearing ourselves out! I'd like to stay at POR, and I think my parents would like it there too.
The few days before the race we will probably not spend too much time in the parks. The main things for us will be keeping to our training regime, eating plan, and keeping as well rested as we can before the run, so I won't book anything in, and we'll just do whatever fits around our run schedule. One of these days will be picking up our race packets and checking out the expo, where we will no doubt spend far too much money on stuff you can't get in Aus!
Race day we might do something leisurely in the morning, and I will probably have a nap in the afternoon. I am not a night person and usually get tired early, which is not very helpful for a run that doesn't start until 9:30pm! We will no doubt have a light, early dinner and then probably make our way to the general area of the event to give ourselves plenty of time.
After the run... well, that's when we'll hit WDW properly! It really is far too early to make specific plans just yet, but I hope to hit each park at least once, and do some resort hopping! I'd also like to get to Universal, especially IOA.
Since it's Halloween time, I WILL be going to a
MNSSHP! Since we don't really do Halloween in Aus, it will be a bit of a novelty to be able to really get involved!
On the way home, since we will likely go through LA anyway, I would like to spend at least 2 nights at DLR, go to one of their Halloween parties, and check out Haunted Mansion Holiday, and Carsland! I may be doing this part solo as my parents will be able to spend more time in the US since they won't be going to the wedding.
And speaking of Halloween, I will be taking 3 costumes... a running costume, and one each for the Halloween party on both coasts! Some costume ideas I have are Ursula (for the run), Cheshire Cat (saw some awesome material today!), Jessica Rabbit, Sally (as in Nightmare Before Christmas), and goth Tinker Bell. Yes, I love wearing costumes, and no, I don't have much opportunity to wear them at home
