Running for Freedom(of the Seas) The Journey Begins Today!(Comments Welcome)

Glad to hear your dd had a great time.Doesn't it kill you that while you miss them they could care less? I suppose that is good in a way- shows independence.

Good luck tomorrow- 9 miles! Yes the heat is coming back- I have a back down week tomorrow only to do 3.1.

Have a great weekend,
Linda

There is nothing worse than humidity when running. Especially on a long run. Todays 9 miler was BRUTAL. My MIL was a house a fire, setting a quick pace from the start. FIL is still nursing his swollen ankle, thinks maybe he will go for an xray on Weds if its not better (duh). I just slogged along, praying the end would come sooner rather than later. It did, and we bested our last 9 mile time by 4 minutes. Not too bad.

I am sore and tired now but there is work to be done. I wanted to bake squash bread today, but it is going to be too hot. So I am going to wash the car, vacuum the pool, laundry. All the fun stuff.

Way to go Veronica! Glad you were able to get out there.

Yeah time to head for the pool here too

Have a good one,
Linda

My walking route right now measures out 3.3 miles and I do it in about 60-65 minutes. I can't even imaging running for 9 miles and taking off 4 full minutes off from the last time I ran it. You are so amazing.

I agree, humidity is awful, but isn't that what you'll be facing in Orlando? I've worked on the East Coast (I used to travel and work football and baseball games all over the country for the major networks) and your humidity back there is killer in August. We rarely get that here in the Pacific Northwest, but when it does happen we will complain about it for the next several years (106 degrees/90% humidity! Ouch! that's our new record...and I won't ever forget it :rotfl:)

Your right on schedule to do very well - keep up the great work and I hope DD gets her choice of teacher!

Thanks Laurie!! This week is 10 miles, my first double digit run. The humidity which is still hanging around, is supposed to break by sunday morning when we run. Orlando in January can be anything-cold, raining, hot, humid its a real toss up. Plus the race starts at 6am, when it can be cooler, but we won't finish til close to 8:30/9am, so it will definately be warmer.

DD found out her teacher today, she is happy with it, although she isn't in class with her BFF. The school mails the assignment out today, but we use the Parent Portal, an online way for parents to keep track of attendance, testing, etc. So it was posted on there.

Ran this morning, yuck-o. Humidity was terrible, making it harder to breathe. But I did my 3 miles, not too bad at 33:08. It rained later on and it cooled off, but now the humidity is back again. Can't wait for the cool fall weather, it is my favorite season of all.

Looking to get new sneakers, don't have the money to spend at Fleet Feet, so I am trying to get something online that is a bit less money. I found my current shoes on ebay (different colors though, but who cares) for $59.99, waiting until closer to the end of the auction.

Rest tomorrow, some housecleaning and lawn mowing to be done.

Veronica: I am using Superfeet insoles in my walking shoes and they are super suportive and extend the life of my shoes well beyond what they would have otherwise. Plus they support my high arches. (I wear out my inners and soles way before my uppers.) You might get a bit more time out of the shoes you have while you wait for what you really want.

We use an online grade/attendance program to that interfaces with parents; but, we (teachers) hate it. It's not real versatile and seems to have more gliches--like my version of the grading system is difference than what parents see and I'm constantly having to explain the discrepancies. We are supposed to see an upgrade on Monday (fingers are crossed) that is "better."

I'm so glad your DD is happy with her teacher--and it might be better for both girls that they aren't in the same class. (I spend more time rearranging seating due to the BFF problems, even at the high school level!)

10 miles should be no sweat (except for the humidity...)

Laurie

Well, no 10 miler today:sad2: due to pouring rain. We went to the trail, MIL said she wouldn't run in the light rain. So we went home, I plotted a course and took off. Got 4.5 miles in before I had to bag it due to the weather. May try to get out again later today or hit the TM to make up some of the miles.

Veronica that is too bad.I think I may have just made it under the wire here, starting to sprinkle.

Linda

Well I got another 2.5 in on the TM, which is WAY harder than running outside I have decided. So my total for today is 7 miles, I may make some miles up during the week. I am disappointed that I just didn't stay out this morning and do the whole 10, but the weather was just awful.

So the humidity has finally broken here and today was AWESOME for running. Kinda cool actually. But it worked for me as I ran my 3 miles in 31:44, which is really fast for me. Ran on Weds this week too, 32:58 for 3 miles then.

New sneakers came today-. Same as my current ones, just different colors. They should last me until December when my FIL will buy me a new pair for Christmas.

One more full week before school starts here-I am going to stay on my current running schedule of W/F/Sun. Once DD is back to school, I am switching to Tu/Th/Sat/Sun and doing a weight training class on friday mornings. My weight has gone up, but everyone tells me I look like I have lost weight. :confused3 We have been quite naughty around here lately, but once we are back on our school schedule things should level out.

This Sunday is our longest training run-11 miles. The weather should be okay-cooler and overcast, hopefully it doesn't rain until AFTER we start or MIL will bail again. Only 3 weeks from this Sunday is my first half marathon!! I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I know I can do it, its just getting out there and doing it!!

Glad your weather is finally behaving like end of summer/beginning of fall--lower humidity is great for exercising outside. Well, doing anything outside.

I understand about having to get on a schedule, especially for meal planning and back to school. DH mentioned that to me tonight as he was actually measuring salt (he can't have more than some (?) amount now for the BP issue.) It is so much more relaxing to know what is on the menu than to take a guess each evening or scamble to make breakfast or lunch.

Thanks again for your kind words--I feel so much better this evening than last and the BP meds have brought DH's levels down to beat even my own for the evening.

Laurie

Well my new sneakers got put to good use today-11 miles!! The weather was okay, overcast, about 60 degrees. I walked for about 50 yds up the bridge at mile 9. That helped me get through the last 2 miles. I drank a lot of water and Gatorade after we finished. Now I am really tired, could use a nap.

All I can say is, "Wow!" You are doing so awesome.

Do you have a TM at home? We are looking into getting one for winter use (it pours here a lot too, well, it usually pours a lot--it's been a long dry, hot summer...). Do you have any suggestions for a brand or type?

Thanks Laurie :goodvibes

We actually have 2 treadmills in the basement, both are Nordic Trak. One was MIL's but she didn't want it to we took it thinking DH and I could use them together, but that doesn't seem to happen. I have found them to be a good solid choice, sturdy, basic features, nothing crazy.

On another note, I am having some unsettling GI problems following todays run. I had some after my last 9 miler, but not nearly as bad as today. My legs feel great, but my tummy is yucky! And we have to go to a baseball game tonite, hoping I don't have to go between each half inning.:sad2:

Not that I'm fussy at you, but when you take time off, shouldn't you be relaxing? (I tend to work on vacation or weekends or holidays too...but I certainly don't get paid to work for others. What a deal :thumbsup2

I agree with you though, sometimes life just gets in the way of taking care of yourself or doing those things just for you that you need to stay sane. I huffed and puffed up the hills yesterday when DH and I walked; I sure a day off here and there for you doesn't do the same thing to you.

Please, again, tell your DH how much teachers appreciate their techs! (Ours from last year has actually been re-hired, but he is supposed to be working helpdesk at the ITC building where my DH works too. But because our building is so messed up, he's been back this week to get us started. Yay!) It is a truly talented person who can figure out just what the technically challenged have done to their equipment and diplomatically solved the problems without making the teacher feel like a heel. My hat is off to him!

I sure hope you DD likes her class(es). It makes a difference when kids are excited to go from day one.

Now go out and treat yourself to a run...
Laurie

Well today was the first time I ran since last sunday's 11 mile run. With doing temp work this week, my schedule was so off that there was just no time to get out there before going to work. But I'm okay with it.

Today was 8 miles, and I tried a bit of a different strategy-no real fueling during the run. I suffered so last week with stomach pains and such, I thought I would see what happened. I did notice a bit of a difference in my performance-I struggled a bit more, but that could also have been from a)not running all week or b)the pizza we ate last night.:rolleyes1 I noticed that when I drank the G2 post run, my tummy didn't like it. I switched to water and that was much better. We did our 8 in 1:34:38, not too bad.

School starts on Wednesday, and I can finally get back into a groove. Next sunday we run a 5k, then the following sunday is RACE DAY!!! I can't wait!

Veronica
Sorry about the stomach issues.Have you tried any of the gels? The Power Bar gel in Vanilla I find to be pretty good.Clif Bar brand not so good. One or two should get you through the 1/2.

You must be getting excited.Good luck at the 5k.

Linda

Linda-I have tried the gels but I just can't get past the texture of them:scared: The beans have worked well for me in the past, but in talking with someone it was suggested that perhaps the G2 is the problem, due to the lo cal sweetener. Also, just the fact that I ran 11 miles, which I have never done before. I am definately going to take my beans with me for the race and plain water. It'll all work out, I don't feel bad until AFTER the run, so as long as I am okay during, I'll deal with it!
