Running at DL

I'm heading to DL for work in October. It's only the second time I've ever been though so I'm not very familiar with the area. I'm staying at the Grand Californian. I'll be 6 weeks into my marathon training for the WDW full marathon. I've got a Garmin watch so I'm not worried about my shorter runs, but my question is does anyone know a good running route from the Downtown Disney area that would allow me to get a long run in? I'm scheduled to do a 14 miler that Saturday and I'll REALLY rather not do that on a treadmill in the hotel.

I've looked at area maps and tried to map out a course; however I have no idea based on that what roads have sidewalks and are good for runners.

Thanks!

I have no answers for you but I'm dying to hear what others have to say. I'll be in DL in August and am supposed to be doing 8-9 miles that weekend. I was going to make it a lower mile weekend but injury messed with my plan. I'm also hoping not to have to use the treadmill for that run.... We're staying at the DLH.

If no one else answers by then, I'll try to remember to let you know what I ended up doing at the end of August.

Thank you! I looked this up on a search engine and got back some recomendations to run on the Santa Ana Trail. It's a 110 mile paved trail. I've not yet found out how close it is to DL though. I don't want to take a cab to and from the place I'm running if I can help it.

Check out Mapmyrun.com and do a search with the keyword Disneyland. I have done runs up to 10 miles that including going through Downtown Disney and the surrounding streets. I would recommend doing your runs early in the morning to avoid the crowds at DL and the traffic in the streets.

Because I'm there for work and have to be at a convention by 10am, I'll definitely do my runs early to be through with it prior to working. I don't want to do it after standing on my feet all day. Of course, running a 14 miler and then standing on my feet isn't optimal; however it's better than the alternative! lol.

I did find quite a few people who said the loop around the DL property is all sidewalks and it's about 3 miles. Worst-case scenario, I could do the loop 4 or 5 times to get my mileage in.

Love mapmyrun, also check out usatf.org. They have a running routes section where you can look for routes people created. The trail is a couple of miles away from DL, so if you're doing 14, getting out and back shouldn't be a prob.

Another suggestion, below I'll post the Tink 1/2 course map from this past year. The course is different from the DL 1/2, and if you match up where they're similar for a couple of miles and take out the park part, you could be close. For Tink we ran through the downtown area of Anaheim on the other side of the 5 freeway and for DL we do the industrial area, a short strech on the trail and back to DL. There are sidewalks for both 1/2s, so if it gets traffic-y you could go on the sidewalk. Another plus ~ the GC is near the start for both races so you could match up the road parts well.
