Runners UNITE! We've graduated C25K, so let's keep on going!

One of the girls I met at the Half had one of those chips, but they turned off the mats before she finished the race. :sad2:

Doh! That's so sad. Was that the Disney half? Did she have the Disney Champion Chip? I think it's nice that the people who finish but not under time still get their medals at Disney, well, if they don't misplace a box or two, anyhow. My dad was telling me that at the Marine Corps Marathon, the people who got swept got a ride to the last mile so they could do the finish and get their medal. I thought that was EXTRA nice. The Twin Cities marathon, the people who crossed after the 6 hour mark got no medal. The weird thing to me is that it is so variable from race to race to race.

Hey everybody! :goodvibes Just checking in to marvel at your progress! You guys totally ROCK! :thumbsup2

Unfortunately I can't commit to the 1/2 yet. But hopefully if I can do it, it'll still be available. (keeping fingers crossed )

Keep trucking along, ladies!!

Allie - thanks for the compliments! It was a lot of work, and I've slipped a bit ('bout 8 pounds) so I'm trying to get back on track!

Yes it was the Disney Half that just happened in Jan. They turned off the mats after 3 1/2 hours from the Start time. Well, she was about 30 minutes past that just crossing the Start. Then she got to the finish line and they ran out of medals! :scared1: She managed to stay ahead of the sweepers, and then to get to the finish and not have a medal. She was  ! Well after talking to some CM's at her resort, she ended up getting a medal at the Expo. :thumbsup2

Hi Kate! So sorry to hear you got slammed with a virus on your cruise - that's really rough. Did you have some fun before you got sick?

Could account for some of the extra speediness up to this point, cause they have never had that many Goofy slots open before. In which case, I'd guess maybe the second half won't fill as fast as the first half of the half did? Who knows. It sounds like the DL half isn't filling half as quickly. I guess I don't know when Russ' birthday is - does it coincide?

I did have fun on the first half - and I managed to do two "walk a mile" things with my sister (in addition to walking around on our tours.) I'm just so tired of being sick or injured right now!

I didn't know there were so many Goofy slots - that could explain a lot of the % for the Half. Russ's birthday is in March, so no where near the DL Half. Just a "for fun" trip, last one before we have to start paying for him to get in. ;) I just don't know about the WDW Half because chances are, we'll be moving/moved right around then...but watch, we'll end up moving to Tampa and I could have walked to the darn race.

Eta: OMG, Alie, that's terrible what happened to your friend!! I hope she wrote Disney - I know there's far fewer people in WDW but at Bloomsday, the time limit doesn't start until the LAST person crosses the start line. Heck, people FINISHED Bloomsday before I even got to start! And to not have enough medals is really shameful.

Hmm. I don't know. If we're talking about 13,000 registrants, I guess that Goofy participants account for about 1/3. If you take into account that that challenge is 85% full right now, well, I'm not sure it accounts for the full rate of registration of the half, but maybe it accounts for at least some of the alacrity with which 1/2 was reached. I'll cross my fingers for y'all that the rest of the slots fill a little more slowly.

Kate, when do you find out about the move potential? They try to give you a little lead time on that, right? That would be crazy if you got moved to Tampa. I'm glad you and your sister had a chance for at least SOME fun before the virus struck. Seriously, what's with all the illness and injury? ;) Rest up - we (*I*) miss you out there! That goes for you, too, Kim!

OK, Allie, I'm going to plan to just get as much use as I can out of that chip this year before the marathon. I am going to look at it as an inspirational, goal reminder-chip. Now, if I end up getting injured on the first run I use it in, we'll all know it's a jinx to use an event chip before the event, won't we.

Regarding the clocks at the half, oh, that's got to be so disheartening, but I guess they have to turn them off at some point. Just seems so harsh to have it so relatively quick given the later chutes and the slower speeds of the people in those chutes. Just because someone isn't super fast doesn't mean they don't care about their time, for goodness sake.

Found this picture on the WISH events board and thought I would post it here. Here was our medal:

Oh, and here was a pic of me and dd. She had to run back and get me cause I was trying to take pictures of the clock, but it never took. :sad2: One of my Buzz teammates took this. It was great because we didn't have anyone down there to take pics of us while running. WISHers are the Best! :thumbsup2

Wow, Allie! That is one FUN medal. You and your DD look like you're having a great time, as well. And there are some good ones of you guys on ASI as well (I couldn't resist looking up your numbers on there). That's so nice that you have a W.I.S.H. teammate photo - the only photos I have of myself in a race are the ones I paid the professionals an arm and a leg for. I'll have to get one of those W.I.S.H. shirts for the next time.

So are you all revved up for the miles/minutes challenge? I'm getting there, though it's too bad we're on different teams - but hey, I suppose a little friendly competition is maybe a good thing. Are you guys planning on adding in anything extra or just doing what you'd do anyhow?

Including tomorrow's rest day, I've finished the first week of the training plan I think I have maybe settled on. It is one with 5 days of running a week, which is more than I'd probably do on my own initiative, but I had been doing this program prior to the hiatus before the Jingle Bell run, and so I'm going back to it. It it a two part program - the first is training for a 5 or 10K, and I am hoping it will shave that time down to a sub-30 for me. The second part of the program is half-marathon training. I am still considering that local half in June, though I haven't signed up for it. Not sure of the wisdom of running the Minnie in May, followed by the RFTC a week later, followed by a half marathon a month after that. It sounds doable on the one hand, and a little bit of daunting on the other hand.

Biggish non-running news for me this week - I'm not sure how or if this is going to impact my training, but I got an email today asking if I'd like to assistant stage manage a production of "Godspell." It's a show that I don't love (in fact, I find the music a little annoying and the prospect of clown make-up a bit terrifying), but I do love running the backstage of a show, so I said I would do it. It's the community theater group I did Evita with last year, and so I'll be working with some of the same actors. It should be fun, and it really is nice to be thought of and asked, more than anything.

Have a great weekend, everyone! I'm going back to bed.

Corinna what a fantastic opportunity to be an assistant stage manager! Sounds like you're very tempted from where i'm sitting. I'm not familiar with godspell so i can't really comment on the actual production, but I bet the experience would be amazing. Considering the local half marathon hey, get you!

As far as the running comp goes, i'm sticking to my plan. Actually possibly have to scale down the running miles as i have a sore inner foot. Can't describe it any better than that. Hmm, will keep massaging it and sure it will be fine. I don't want to push to much further as think i'd break! Hope everyone else is keeping themselves injury safe too.

Allie, that's such a lovely medal and the photo's great. I've already asked my mum if she'd mind taking photos of all the wish ppl that run past when i'm doing the minnie. She desperately wants a scream team shirt- bless her

smileyk8 - I'm not only tempted, I said I'd do it. The running crew positions work out well with my regular gig as a full time mom and chauffer, because they are relatively short term - I don't have to be there for most of the rehearsal period - and it tends to be one intense week of evenings and then a bunch of weekends, so it's not too hard on my DH or kids.

I think you're right, it's probably unwise to add more running to your training plan - I was wondering about adding more XT, though.
Sorry to hear about your foot. Are you icing as well? Sometimes that can do a lot of good, along with massage. Have you looked at the injury section on runnersworld.com? Maybe some cushioning insoles would help? http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/too...0-319-327-9396-0,00.html?toolName=What Hurts?

I hope it feels better soon.

Your mom sounds so sweet, wanting a scream team t-shirt. :cutie: That would be really nice if she were willing to photograph other WISHers. Can you believe it's only 3 months away??? Well, 3 months and 2 days. Still, pretty exciting! I need to go register for that 5K.....

Congratulations on taking the position, it does sound like a great opportunity and a lot of fun. You're absolutely right about adding cross training, however i'm finding it hard enough running 3 times a week, i don't know how people add cross stuff on top of that.

I'm also very impressed you're up for the 5km as well as 15km. I'm not sure i could get up that early two days on the run :rotfl:

Can't quite work out what to do with my foot- i read somewhere that heat could also be used for aches etc and i'm not sure when to ice or heat. eek. I'll try and do a slightly shorter run tomorrow and see what happens. I think it's something to do with my arch- it's uncomfortable just walkin around so i might head to running shop for some advice.

Hope everyone's having a good running weekend :woohoo:

Oh, that doesn't sound so good on your foot, just walking around. Is it worse at different times of day or just BAD all the time? I'm not expert, but my chiropractor always advises that alternating heat and cold can be very good. If what you have is tightness, heat can be very beneficial. I find that if it is more like inflammation, heat makes it worse and ice is beneficial. If it is more inflammationy, have you tried ibuprofen before bed? That is another of my personal tricks - seems like it offers additional benefit when taken before bed.

The only reason I am up for the 5K as well as the 15K is because I am stalking Kim. I'm hoping we're going to take it fairly easy that morning. The 5K isn't quite as early as the Minnie, and I figure that if I'm on early to bed, early to rise schedule, I might as well make the most of it.

Today is my "rest day" and tomorrow is my "long run" day. I think I'm going to plan on a 5. The training plan says 4, I believe, but I did 5 last week, and how much disaster could I realistically be courting anyhow? I think we are also going ice skating with friends in the afternoon. I don't think I can count up the miles of that - I'll probably mostly be helping DS4 up off the ice all afternoon!

corinna good luck for your 5- i know you can do it! You have the best attitude ever towards running, it's great to see.

I've been to the gym this morning and did 4.5miles as planned and a short stint on cross trainer to cool down- to be honest it felt better running than when i walk, how bizarre. Currently have an ice pack under my foot so it's feelin good.

Rest tomorrow, yipee! How'e everyone else doing?

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

You're a trip, girl. :goodvibes I also need to register for the 5k. We haven't quite worked out the rental car situation yet, but I should just go ahead and register anyway, right? :confused3 Is there a chance it could fill up? :confused3

As for me, I'm back in the running game. :woohoo: Slowly but surely. I just finished week 2 of the c25k program - so in a couple short months I'll be back here as a graduate. :thumbsup2

Keep up the GREAT work, girls! :thumbsup2 I love following along with your journeys!

Aw, smileyk8 - that was a really sweet thing to say.

It is 18 out there and reportedly, with 12 mph winds, feels like 6. I should have made sure I had windproof pants on, but other than that, my 5 was pretty good! Actually, the first half was kind of miserable - lots of uphill, wind and I was feeling COLD, plus there were forced walk (skate) breaks, cause of some big patches of ice on the sidewalk. I didn't even come close to slipping - I was super careful. But about halfway through, I turned a corner so the wind was at my back, and I was going downhill and there was a gorgeous view, all the trees covered in hoarfrost, and I finally started feeling GOOD. The rest of the run after that point was excellent and made me very glad I'd gotten out instead of hunkering down inside on the treadmill for this run.

Running in this weather kind of makes a girl feel VERY hardcore, like a real athlete. I didn't even feel the extra 30-40 lbs I'm carrying still (darn that food anyhow!)

Kim, I am glad you are rofl and not all creeped out by my stalking. YES, we should go ahead and register anyway. NO, I don't think it's likely to fill, but you never can say for sure.

And I hate to tell you this, but you can't actually UN-graduate from anything. You're still a graduate, and we're still interested in what you're doing. Part of being a graduate of C25K is that you know you have the tools to get back to running if you should happen to stop for a while. Lots of runners do take periodic breaks and have to work their endurance back up again. :)

So I am continuing to try to find the right jacket/clothing combo for this cold-weather running business. Since I was overly warm in my windblock fleece in the -2 weather, I thought I'd better try something else today. I wore a long sleeve tech shirt underneath my Gore-Tex rain jacket. It went pretty well - I did get a little steamy inside the jacket, and unzipped about 1/3 of the way down pretty early on. Overall, it wasn't bad, though, and I would probably do that combination again.

Now here's the slightly gross part. When I got inside, I took off my Garmin - I had been wearing it over the outisde of the jacket, for obvious reasons. And then I noticed it - the underside of the Garmin was all WET. Really, really wet. And the jacket underneath, as well. And that's when I realized - I had been so steamy inside that jacket, but most of it had wicked out and evaporated through the awesomeness of Gore-Tex. Where the Garmin interfered, it was highly apparent just how much moisture the Gore-Tex transfers out!

Since you've seen all our pics, I should tell you what I am ordering. I am getting the Memory Maker. I am putting the picture of us holding hands through Dinoland, us running toward the finish line, and us with our medals. I will personalize it with both of our names, and our finish time. I think it will be a good keepsake for us.

I am doing pretty well on the challenge. I ran yesterday. I did 2.3 miles in 30 minutes, but then I did some cool down walking. I am keeping all of my info in an Excel spreadsheet, and then I'll report it all next Friday. I think it is going to be a lot of fun. I may try and get my bicycle out of the attic, and add that to my routine. Maybe that would help make my legs stronger.

Allie, that's such a lovely medal and the photo's great. I've already asked my mum if she'd mind taking photos of all the wish ppl that run past when i'm doing the minnie. She desperately wants a scream team shirt- bless her

Thanks! I think they are pretty great too! I am all about running to have fun. I am not out to "race" anyone but myself. I want to be smiling at the end. Oh, and if your mum wants a scream team shirt, they have them on this website.....www.cafepress.com. That is where I got mine. I also got one for dd, but she wanted to wear the shirt that matched her outfit. Can't blame a girl for wanting to match. ;)

OK, Kim, I'm registered for the 5K. So it's time to, er, woman up? Not to put on any pressure or anything. popcorn:: Don't ask me what came over me - it just seemed like the right moment to register. And for anyone who is interested in the chip drama, I went ahead and registered with my shiny new Marathon weekend chip. So we'll see how it goes. I didn't have it when I registered for the 15K, so I guess I'm either supposed to email the race or else just use the loaner. :confused3

Kate, that Memory Maker sounds like it will be really beautiful and I am sure you and your daughter will treasure it. You had some really nice pictures - it will be nice to showcase them!

I am tallying in my signature (even if it is dorky) but am also writing things in my "running journal" so I can add it up for the week.

Well, I ran a two mile race today. I finished in 23:25. I was really pleased with that especially since my allergies have gone bananas the past couple of days. I couldn't have done any of this without y'all. :grouphug: Really wish I could join y'all for the Minnie or the Marathon next year, but unfortunately it is just not in the cards for me to make another trip anytime soon. Good luck ladies!

Allie! That is such a great time - I'm super impressed! Sorry to hear about your allergies - that definitely puts a damper on things. Do you have them all spring and summer or just for a shorter period of time? I am always miserable for a couple of weeks in June, but then whatever it is that bugs me stops pollinating for the rest of the season, which is nice. At least there is more out there than benadryl these days. And we will MISS you at the Minnie!

It was a "stonker" of a 5 mile treadmill run for me today. Just felt slow and heavy and one of my feet kept feeling a little numb - that hasn't happened in a little while. So not the best, but I slogged through it somehow while my youngest watched Scooby Doo and my oldest was at a movie with DH. Come to think of it, Scooby Doo might have had something to do with the "stonker" status of this particular run. That and the fact that it is something like -10 outside today. Sheesh. Springtime, where are you?

How's everyone else? Running or otherwise? I feel like I've been posting more on my "challenge" team and neglecting Team UNITE a little bit. I've been LOVING the Yoga DVD lately.

I ordered an actual running jacket from the REI clearance sale - hopefully that will solve my "too toasty" jacket issues. I will keep you posted, though it's not supposed to arrive for another week or something.

It is usually a once a season type thing, and it always seems to fall right around Valentine's. :confused3 Things aren't blooming, but I think they are pollinating. It obviously wasn't too bad because my time wasn't bad considering I have only on week 2 of my C25K REtraining. I feel it in my hips this morning though. Not bad, just know that I used them. :rotfl2: My knee didn't bother me at all. :thumbsup2 I just LOVE my new shoes! I am hoping to do another 5K through our local botanical gardens. I think that will be a pretty run. I might be slower because I might stop and smell the roses. ;) :lmao:

Hope your jacket feels "just right" when you get it.
