Runners UNITE! We've graduated C25K, so let's keep on going!

Allie,
Congratulations on a job well done! It sounds like you had a great time and enjoyed the race thoroughly, which is really what it's all about. So glad your new shoes worked well for you.

I know I'm not the only one who would LOVE to see your photos, but I understand if you don't feel comfortable sharing. I saw some photos from the 5K on Disneyrunning.com and it looked like the weather was just perfect for you. Do you love your medal? I still haven't seen a close-up photo of it, but it looks like a really cute one.

Do you think you'll do the 5K again next January or is another January trip not in the cards?

I just put in my registration for the 2009 Half Marathon. I went nuts and ordered the champion chip as well. After all, the 2009 half has been my DREAM race since I started - what better personal chip could there possibly be?

Gotta run today. Speaking of COLD, it was a high of -2 here yesterday, plus wind. Bring on the treadmill, baby!

allie, that sounds like such a lovely experience and how great to share it with your daughter. WIsh i could get my mum to run! My sister's nearly caught the bug, but she's not quite sure yet :rotfl:

Glad the shoes are doing the trick, i'm often tempted to wear my running trainers everyday but make myself keep them to runs. There's nothing better than snuggly trainers!

Corinna- -2! That's stupidly cold, the treadmill's not calling, it's standing on a box shouting at you!!!

Corrina - I still haven't gotten my pictures off my camera yet. :headache: We were in that picture though. We are on the front row (right side). The WISHers were such a lovely group. We got to meet with a lot of them on Friday night at Pop. They included us like we had always been around. I am planning on ordering a memory mate for us. It will have three of our best pics on it, along with our names and finish time. When I get that back, I'll see what I can do.

I don't know if I will do another one. The only way I talked DH into this one was because I was turning 40. I would LOVE to do the Minnie, but just don't think I'll be able to swing that. I've got too many family (extended) trips planned to be able to afford it. Maybe someday I'll do the Half. That would be awesome.

Kim - I saw your before and after pics on the bio thread......WOW!!! You are truly an inspiration. I need to get my butt moving! :rotfl2: You look great!

smileyk8
- It was a wonderful time. Certainly something we will both cherish for the rest of our lives. Don't know that she will run anymore, but I'm ready to go to another race. :yay:

So I am still plugging away with the ol' treadmill here. It was warmer today but I had the little guy while DH went skiing with our older son, so I didn't get outside, even though it was actually above freezing. There will be more days above freezing, right? Anyone? Right? Right? Please?

The 5 TM miles I put in tonight were not the easiest ever, but they weren't impossible, so I can't complain. I am still having a hard time deciding on a training plan. I love to have a plan, but it can be hard to choose cause they are all sorta really different. Anyone else looking at plans or successfully choose a plan?

I know, January is supposed to be a lull, but as running is my prozac, I kind of feel like I'd better keep up even though the weather and life in general is not conducive.

It's almost February, which means...what, either 6 more weeks of winter or spring is right around the corner? Living in Minnesota and Massachusetts for the past 25 years, I have to say, groundhog day always seemed a fairly irrelevant exercise to me. Duh - 6 more weeks of winter. If not 8. But I'm sure that's not the case everywhere. I am rambling.....

Holy buckets - did you guys see this?

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1702326

The summary: Evidently the 2009 is over 1/2 full now, two months earlier than it was last year.

Glad I'm already registered. :goodvibes Thought I'd throw it out there for those who were thinking of the 1/2 in '09!!!

Wow! I knew the Goofy was 75% full, but didn't know about the half. That is amazing! Don't think it is in the cards for me though. Just don't know that I can talk DH into letting me go solo. :sad2: Although, I did see this http://disneyworldsports.disney.go....s/detail?name=EnduranceEverestEventDetailPage, and would REALLY like to do it. Two trips in one year, probably won't happen, but I can WISH, can't I? ;)

On the Events Board, there is a running competition about to start if y'all are interested, you better get over there quick. We start this Friday. Smileyk8 is already signed up along with me. We are keeping a running total of our miles, and minutes. Whichever team wins, gets a prize at the Pop meet next Jan. I signed up just to keep me moving. :yay:

eek i'd so love to sign up for the half marathon next year, but not sure i can justify another trip to disney. Hmmm. No i can't/ mustn't! Wow i really am well and truly obsessed aren't i :rotfl:

corinna well done on your 5miles, that's fab. I agree it's really hard to find a plan that fits so i've started making the plans fit me. As i have a little longer than most of the plans are made for i'm letting myself relax a little.

I was amazed when i realised i've run over 14 miles this week :scared1: 4.1, 4.4 and 6.1 miles. I'm really feeling it now but that satisfied feeling keeps me going. Going by hal's half marathon plan i have a slightly easier week next week-

Allie are you really excited about this team competition? Can't wait for this additional motivation- i can imagine wish cheerleaders on my treadmill edges cheering me on :cheer2:

Yes I am! :cheer2: :cheer2: I was worried about our leader. She didn't check in at all over the weekend. Well, she just checked in and her computer crashed over the weekend. So, she got to come back to 11 pages on that new thread! :rolleyes1 I am on the Still Unnamed Team 2. What team are you on?

I think it is going to be a lot of fun!

sorry for hijacking our thread. :flower3:

I noticed she'd returned from the oblivion! I was on team 6 then was relocated to 7 who currently don't have a name either. It's so nice reading people's bio's too, i'm just really eager to meet everyone

Well, I started a post and then my computer gave up on me and now it's gone. The post, not the computer.

It's OK if you guys can't do the half - I just thought I'd throw it out there. That EE 5K+ looks pretty cool, but I don't think I can wangle a trip at that point in the year, not when I've got the Minnie and the half. :) I'd love to do ToT again, too, of course. They have fun races at Disney. I'm trying to pick a few that are closer to home, too.

I wasn't going to do the mileage challenge cause, you know, I'm not marathon training or something, I guess. Anyhow, I've thrown in for it and we'll see, I guess. You guys make it sound fun.

Nice mileage, smileyk8! Which Hal program are you following? Online? From a book? Not that I'm familiar.....but am trying to get my plans together. Like you say, we have a little bit of leeway, but I don't want to totally squander it!

Thanks! What a cheeky computer you have, hope you had some sturn words.

I'm kind of following the online hal higdon half marathonn plan- picked a longer distance than necessary cos i think i'll struggle with heat and would like to be able to run further than the race distance. Here's a link:
http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm
i'm just doing the 3 main runs each week with a swim if i have time (not that often with uni and work and a project :surfweb: )

I've been trying to gently suggest a january trip to my family altho i know i could go solo it wouldn't be the same as i'd realistically have to stay a week to make the trip worthwhile and i'd get lonely

Corrina, they mixed up the teams with High Mileage runners, and then us lower end runners. That way they would be balanced. I think they are taking people for substitute positions - in case someone gets injured - the sub can report for them. Windwalker Panda will let you know what you need to do.

In other news: My 2009 Disney Marathon Weekend Champion Chip arrived in the mail today. Do you guys think it's bad juju to use the thing before the weekend it commemorates? Seems kind of silly to have it and not use it when I run a chipped race. On the other hand, I don't wear race shirts before (or during) the race.... So what do you guys think? Should I wear the future marathon weekend chip for the minnie?

wow 3 posts at 9.02 get us!!!!

Are we in synch or what? :cheer2:

Corinna - Will it work for other races or is it tied to the marathon only? I've never used a chip or run in a chipped race so I don't know how that works exactly. I guess I would be nervous about losing it, but that is just me. I tend to lose things. :rolleyes1

Talk about synchronicity!

K8 - I don't think you'd get lonely during marathon week. Seems like there are a lot of DISers around during that time! I also feel a little nervous about potentially going "solo" for the half, but I feel like it's bound to work out, plus I am only talking about a weekend, given that there's no Pond for me to cross to get to the race - and no jet-lag to contend with, either!

Well, I've thrown in for the mileage challenge. We'll see how it shakes out. Maybe there will be enough last minute add-ons that we can have an odds-and-ends team. Time will tell.

It will work for any chipped race for me - it has my information associated with it, evidently, so I am not to loan it out. With the loaner chips, you usually attach those to your laces with a zip-tie type thing and then they cut it off of your shoe at the finish. With a personal chip, you actually lace it onto your shoe with the laces, cause they don't have to cut it off, so no real worry about losing it. So, what happens is when your chip crosses one of the special mats that they have at the start and finish and sometimes intermediary points as well, it registers automatically in the computer so you get an exact time for how long it took you to cover the course, regardless of how far back from the start-line you started.

It's pretty cool!

I say use it then! You need to "try it out". Give it a "test" run. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Sorry, I'm just being silly here. See I would accidentally leave it at home, or forget to put it on my shoe, or something stupid like that. :scared:

One of the girls I met at the Half had one of those chips, but they turned off the mats before she finished the race. :sad2:

The half is already half full? Oh no, I wasn't expecting to make a decision on this for a while! And I think DH would kill me if I mentioned another Disney trip right now. (A friend and I are talking about DL for Russ's birthday.)

I'm not in any sort of running shape. I caught a nasty bug on our cruise and can barely breathe with a massive coughing fit. But, as soon as I get better, I'm going to start seeing a trainer for Bloomsday. So I'll be back and contributing soon!

Hi Kate! So sorry to hear you got slammed with a virus on your cruise - that's really rough. Did you have some fun before you got sick?

I can't believe it's filling that quickly either! I mean, not as fast at the Goofy, but still! Which is always so funny to me. That the craziest, hardest, longest double-race fills first (I think it's the 3/2 medals to races ratio that does it - or maybe it's the smaller number of participants, I don't know. I suppose that if they ave 3,000 signed up for the Goofy already, that's 3,000 for the half right there, as well. Could account for some of the extra speediness up to this point, cause they have never had that many Goofy slots open before. In which case, I'd guess maybe the second half won't fill as fast as the first half of the half did? Who knows. It sounds like the DL half isn't filling half as quickly. I guess I don't know when Russ' birthday is - does it coincide?
