Run Over BY ECV

Just returned from MGM where an ECV run over my foot at the Celebrity 5 & 10 store on Hollywood Blvd. While the woman in the ECV was very apologetic, nevertheless I am lucky she didn't break my foot, but still ended up with a nasty bruise.
My point here is that in stores where there is not much space to move around and the aisles are narrow ECV'S should not be allowed in. I realize that this would be an obvious invonveniece to those on an ECV, but the safety of the majority of people should take precedence over the needs of a limited few. If not it will only be a matter of time before someone does get a broken limb from one of these vehicles.

I can't believe that this thread is still alive...........I'm sure I missed a couple of things here, I have to say this

For all the people that have something negative to say about wheel chairs/ECV I hope you never have a reason to sit in them.

For all the people that do need a wheelchair/ECV you have the same right to be anywere in the park.

when we go to DISNEY my mom needs a wheelchair and she opps for my father or myself to push her because she is scared to drive the ECV in the park, she's scared she is going to hit someone.

As for Disney I think they should make the asiles big enough for ECV and wheel chairs to get up and down the asiles. She can never get through WORLD OF DISNEY because it is so packed and the asiles are so small.............DOES ANYONE THINK THAT IS FAIR.............well we have no control over crowds nor do we have any control over the size of the asiles. we deal with it.

I'm sure the women that ran over your foot felt as horrible as your foot felt.......the hread that you started is a very selfish thread, and ingnorant to say they should ban them from the stores.

Another thought I have seen pleanty of people stop right in there tracks and people walking right into each other. I was in MGM this past July and I saw a man stop dead in his tracks and a mother was puhing a BABY in a stroller and he fell back on top of the baby, from far away it looked funny, I don' know what the outcome was. but how about that JAHOW.what do you think they should of done with that man that stop dead in his tracks

Sorry so long, I just needed to vent.

Don't start the heely's debate!

Besides another thread stated that Disney CM are telling kids to take off the wheels so it looks like they are cracking down on them.

..... For a long time it looked like there was no change of getting at least the work needed to go to WDW done. That would mean me having to rent an ecv and spend about 25% of the time I can spend at the parks etc compared to when I were to use a pwc. For some weird (it shocked me anyway) reason the standard ecv for rent works better for my body than a rented pwc, go figure! It's only 17 more days before I get on the plane to Orlando, :yay: but still the chair is no way near done.....

Just an FYI

If your powerchair is not finished in time you may want to think about renting a scooter or a Power Chair from an offsite company.
The EVCs that Disney rents have 4 wheels. They go very slow and because of the 4 wheels they are very hard to steer.
Here is a photo from allearsnet of one of the EVCs you can rent in the park.

Here is a photo of the type of scooters you can rent from an offsite company:

I have limited mobility and have rented mine from Care Medical (800-741-2282) and Walker Mobility (888-726-6837) in the past. I would recommend either one. The cost for a scooter is about $30 a day. The ones at the parks cost $35 a day and are bigger and have 4 wheels kinda like a golf cart. They are much harder to steer and to control. If you rent from an offsite rental they will deliver the ECV to bell services at your resort. You can use it to go to the pool, and get around the resort as well as the bus stop.

Almost all the Disney buses are accessible. I love using my EVC it gives me more independence and helps keep my pain to a minimum.
Disney started mainstreaming most of their lines in the late 1990's. Those in WC/EVC will usually enter in the regular line. You will be able to stay in EVC until just before boarding most of the time.
Sometimes the WC/EVC (and up 5 members of your party) may be pulled from the mainstream line part way down so you can board the ride in an
Accessible area. (* Note You are NOT going to front of line but rather a safe place to wait and an area that makes the ride accessible to you.) EVC's can't climb steps so sometimes they need you to take an elevator. Or they may need to take you to the area where the riders usually exit in case
you need an accessible vehicle or need the moving sidewalk slowed or stopped so you can board.

You can pickup a book for Guests with disabilities at Guest Services or you download a copy of the book which is posted on the disABILITIES board.
Have fun at Disney! :wizard:

Thnx for all the info, Linda. I knew all about it allready (also thnx to the disABILITIES part of the DIS), but I really appreciate the effort you took. And who knows, maybe it helps out someone else. :)

On the "front of the line"-thingie; I'm weird, or so I'm told. I'm actually looking forward to being able to wait in line, just like anybody else. I'm so used to these normall things not being accessible that having something like having an accessible waitingline is like "ah, finally, got some of the normall things back in life". Finally being treated as an equal on this respect. Not being treated as less or being treated as being "special", just get the same oppertunity as anybody else.
