Run Over BY ECV

If you get to ban ECV, I get to ban strollers:rotfl:

I've been to stores where strollers were banned. Rather, I've been to the DOOR of stores where strollers were banned (with a child in a stroller), and proceeded to walk away and spend my money elsewhere. Their loss!

I won't really join in on this one, except to say there ARE stores and restaurants that ban strollers.

I'll bet 6 pages.

I think the OP is rude. The woman who ran over your foot was apologetic- it was an ACCIDENT!! Instead of being couteous and accepting her apology, you come on the DIS, tell us about it and say you want ECV's banned from shops?? Some people really do shock me.

:surfweb:

It sounds to me like the OP was just suggesting one solution to the problem. I don't think the post was rude (YMMV).

Arranging the aisles in the stores so they can accommodate ECVs, in my opinion, is a better solution.

Strange this thread would pop up again today of all days.

My roomate seriously injured his knee last weekend and is now awaiting surgery. As such he's on crutches or in a wheelchair. We had to be at Walmart today and he really experienced the rough side of being confined to a wheelchair. When I couldn't be right there at his side, I did have to leave him a few times, random people literally PUSHED him out of the way without asking any permission whatsoever and when he spoke to them - they ignored him.

He couldn't defend himself, he couldn't stand up and say "excuse me.. what do you think you're doing". One man just bumped his wheelchair repeatedly and excessively with a cart to push him out of the way.

We both left the store thinking "Wow.. are we ever glad this is temporary in this case. Lots of others aren't so lucky."

So.. with that said, it was an accident. I would however agree that some of the aisles in Disney retail locations could be more accommodating.

I am sorry, OP, that you got hurt.

The shops can get insanely crowded at times with strollers, ECV's and even..plain old folk like you and me.

This is what I always do when I see these conditions in a WDW store...and it always works...

I DON"T GO IN!!!

Just a thought!;)

My ECV is 24" wide and there are still aisles that I can't get through in every store I enter. and I am good at manuvering after several years doing it.
My DD's wheelchair is narrower than that and sometimes doesn't fit thru all the aisles.

My mom has to use ecv's at the parks and anywhere where a lot of walking is involved. She has had numerous surgeries to her ankle and the more walking she does, the closer she is to another surgery. Anyways, when we go to Disney, she rents an ecv and watches for people like a hawk.. shes terrified of accidentally bumping into someone. At the same time, it makes her park experience very very difficult. It took us close to 1.5 hrs to get from the entrance to the castle without stopping to look at anything. People just dont look out.. they walk in front of her, stop in front of her, stand in front of her. Its pretty ridiculous(spell?) and then when she says "excuse me" they look at her like shes stupid or in the wrong somehow?? its crazy! I know know why they give the pass to people in wheelchairs that lets them to the front of the lines.. because it takes them triple the time to get to the ride that it takes those walking!!

Being in an ECV or wheelchair doesn't make people rude, nor does having a child in a stroller, being a smoker, being overweight, using the Child/Parent Rider Swap, coming early to a parade, coming late to a parade, being of a different nationality, or a host of other things we seem to enjoy debating here on the Dis. Some people in those circumstances are rude though, as are some people who none of the aforementioned circumstances apply to.

The root of the problem that gets these threads locked seems to be that if anyone dares to mention that a person who uses an ECV or wheelchair, smokes, is overweight, uses the Child Rider Swap, is of a different nationality, or comes early or late to a parade was rude, every other person in the same circumstances becomes incredibily defensive.

Unless you recognize yourself in the particular scenario being described in a particular thread, why must you feel compelled to defend someone you don't even know just because you may also fit into the broad definition of ECV or wheelchair user, smoker, etc.?

When we were at Mission Space at Epcot in July a very nice elderly lady on an ECV was driving it through the vary narrow que line! It had very sharp turns and she ended up crashing into a pole and basically getting stuck. A not so sympathetic CM came over and told her to try not to run into the poles - duh! I felt so bad for her. I'm so sorry that someone ran over your foot and am so glad you weren't seriously hurt. I think for some elderly people this might be the first time they've ever used an ECV and they just have a hard time controlling it. Making someone drive one through a que line was just ridiculous. Also, on a side note - she was all by herself on the green side and the rest of her family was on the orange side! I couldn't believe that not one of them would go with her.

Hmmm I like your suggestion. One store for people who use ECV's and wheelchairs and another for those who can walk on 2 legs for long periods of time. :woohoo:

And while we are at it, when I was shopping the other day, there was a whiney child and they bother me a LOT- give me a headache and all. So I think we should ban all children from 1/2 of the stores in the country so I don't get a headache. :thumbsup2

So now we actually need 4 stores of the same kind- 1 for people who walk on 2 legs but have children, and 1 for people who walk on 2 legs but don't have any children, and 1 for people who use ECVs or wheelchairs (or maybe even walkers too) and have children with them, and the last one for those who use ECVs/wheelchairs and possibly walkers and don't have children with them

There are a lot more children out there than people who use ECVs or wheelchairs anyway... Or we can just leave the kids outside the store in a playpen type enclosure while "adults only" shop! :rotfl:

Perfect solution! :rolleyes1  :goodvibes

Just a note to say I won't be posting in this thread.

I don't so much mind that you feel the need to post that you were run over in a tight space by an ECV. My problem is that there have been a million plus threads started about this, and you didn't search for one to add to. It seems that everyone is just starting their own threads for everything now, instead of putting a bit of effort into seeing if they can just add to an existing thread.

Ah, I feel better now.

If people started searching for previously posted threads the DIS would be reduced to 10 new threads per day. :sad2:

And that's a bad thing why? That doesn't mean the conversation stops, it just exists in threads that are there already. I have seen topics brought up multiple times on the same day over the last two weeks, all because folks can't do a simple search.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Here we go again...I'll put down $20 for +3

I will go as far as saying this thread will be locked and shut down. No free expression of Ideas on DIS if the mods feel someone may be offended (unless it is the insensitive narrow minded person who started the no ECV thread, those are OK.).
Must keep all posts warm and fuzzy.
I already learned so I will just sit back and watch the fun.

I just checking back to say that I'm still not posting on this thread.

In this particular thread? Because the woman described in the first post isn’t here to defend herself (or, if she is, she’s not coming forward to admit she’s “the one”). The OP has only one side of the story; the so-called defenders are merely providing the alternate view/experience.

Not posting.

Just clarifying.

I am neither the RUN-OVER-ER or the RUN-OVER-EE in this thread.

Just keeping things straight.

I will not post here.

Thank you.

So true. From now on, we mustn't post anything unless it's about Crocs, your favorite hidden MK secret or the wand coming off Spaceship Earth. Complaints about attractions that will be closed during your visit are also still allowed, but you may only mention it once per day. And please search for an existing post. Don't you dare open a new one about the same topic someone posted about 9 months ago. And PLEASE - don't create ANY posts that contain ANYTHING close to a personal opinion that might actually generate a deep, intellectual, healthy debate. Warm and fuzzy and utterly pointless is much better for us all.
