Hi All ~ Is it true that the POLY is now a
DVC resort? Thanks! S
No. It is not possible to purchase DVC points at the Polynesian Resort. There are no DVC condos at the Polynesian Resort.
As has been the case since almost the dawn of DVC, it is possible for DVC members to use points to stay at the Polynesian through the Disney Collection. Many of us think this is not a good use of points, compared to staying at the actual DVC resorts.
There have been rumors, most likely based on wishful thinking, that Disney Vacation Development (DVD) will add a DVC section to the Polynesian. Of course, DVD added DVC sections to other existing deluxe resorts before VWL and BCV.
The big difference is that there is not sufficient land at the Polynesian. Sure, there's the parking lot on the other side of the monorail but the Polynesian needs parking, and adding a DVC report would mean that the Polynesian would need even more parking.
Some have suggested tearing down some existing buildings plus the Luau Cove. But it's one thing to tear down unused buildings like the old Villas at the Disney Institute, or even the north wing of the Contemporary (part of a huge hotel with too many rooms). It would be quite another thing to tear down highly popular, high-priced hotel rooms at the Polynesian or a dinner show that is a part of what guests expect from the Polynesian.
I expect DVD to build many additional DVC condos in the coming years. However, I don't expect them at the Polynesian.
