Rumors of major changes at CR in 2006?

So if a DVC resort does happen at CR, those of you opposed to it won't be staying at new building, right? I mean, since you're so opposed to it and all the "issues" it may bring. Or will you be one of the first on the phone to try and snag a cash ressie for the nice, new rooms? And your screen names won't be seen in the DVC rent/trade forum begging for points at the new CR-DVC?

The wing rooms in CR are the least expensive rooms in a monorail resort. Their discounted room rates are about the cheapest deluxe rates. AKL and WL might be slighter lower but the rooms are smaller. The rooms are the best buy for families who want a MK resort. Is there any doubt that after DVC sells out one wing they'll convert the other one?

I can certainly understand people who stay there not being happy with the rumored change. I don't care if you book with CRO or rent points, the rate (at least for weekends) is going to be more. DVC units generally sleep 4 and I think the CR wing rooms sleep 5. I'm sure many people will be rushing to book a CR DVC resort but I don't think it'll be the present guests of the wing rooms.

the arcade at Cont while big - needs an upgrade - DVC will insure that happens.

You know, I was originally on the "Oh, no! Not my Contemporary!" side, but hey, if it means they'll bring back that excellent wizard's lab shooting gallery, sign me up! ;)

back in the early 80's (might have been late 70's) - when the Cr and the Polyn were added on: the wings at the CR and the 3 building closest to the T/TC at the Poly

I may be wrong, but I believe that the garden wings opened with the tower...

We bought DVC because we have 4 kids and the 2 bedroom units are great for us. We would always have to get 2 regular hotel rooms, and would miss the kitchen and washer/dryer. We would love a CR DVC, and I can't imagine Disney allowing anything obtrusive or unsightly to be built, HOWEVER, as far as how noisy my kids are in the lobby or how much room we take up on the monorail, what difference does it make what type of accomodations we are staying in? If someone is staying in a regular room and we are staying in a DVC unit, well, how would anyone really know where we were staying? We HAVE stayed in 2 deluxe rooms before!

I'm not sure I undertand this statement. By it, do you mean that DVC members "demand" good arcades? And, the only reason I ask, is that I recall the Old Key West arcade consisting of about 3 or 4 video games. And, of course, that loud and obnoxious speaker on the exterior piping out all the loud video game machine sounds disrupting the tranquil Old Key West theme.

.... I was thinking along those same lines. If the North wing is replaced by a DVC resort it will probably be very similar in size to what is already there - maybe a little bigger. How will the monorail or lobby be more crowded ? All you're doing is trading a cash guest for a DVC guest. And with the larger room sizes, the DVC resort may actually hold less guests.

If anything, guests who love WL or BC should be more upset with DVC the CR people. DVC added to resort burden at WL & BC by adding approx 250 units to each resort.

Yes and no because we pay our dues every year we expect the resort to be maintained since we pay for that every year. So it ensures the resort will be kept well.

If Disney would like to build a new DVC, and charge a pretty penny for it, why not make one on the monorail line to Epcot?

Well, considering that there are 2 DVC resorts within walking distance of Epcot & MGM, this does not make much sense...

It does - some members do not like going in the back way at Epcot - they have even suggest that a bus to Epcot be part of the transportation system - (WDW didn't do it for BC/YC and not for BW - so I don't think that is gonna happen)

so an Epcot DVC resort that uses the front entrance instead of the side one (International gateway) - is what some members are looking for from DVC.

I have asked about an Epcot monrail resort - got told that the land where they could put one was not good??????don't know what that mean?

when a DVC resort addition is done to any WDW resorts - the guest area of the resort are upgraded - well they certain did with WL - the arcade and the gift shop were both enlarged - so was the snack bar.

At BC the areas were added - I was surprised at the lack of snack bar closer to the BCV. they were rumors about the arcade (next to the beaches and cream) being moved - but nothing happen to it. I don't know if the BC say no - or DVC just decided to add new areas - these areas are off the main building (but still attached) and are very pleasant!!! So the public areas at the BC were not enlarged like WL was.....

Contemporary really needs alot of work - and I really wish WDW would get with - either let DVC buy the wing and then with the money really fix the Cont (like they are doing for Polyn) - or just go ahead and fix it.....It doesn't deserve to be neglected like it has been....It was a great resort once and with a little planning and reorganization it can be again!!!

I guess I feel the opposite of GeekChic in that being a DVC member spoils me for only the best accomodations on Disney property whether using my points or paying cash and frankly unless they changed the whole ugly theme of the CR and spruced the hotel up to the standards of the other deluxe hotels I wouldn't want to stay there. I love the idea of a monorail DVC especially if it were at the poly or the GF but A contemporary DVC is a downer to me. I think they would have to have a completely different theme to be attractive to me but that's the beauty of DVC, if they do decide to build something it will be a big improvement over the existing hotel complex and will certainly appeal to some people but not to me. Looks like a big glob of cold cement with a noisy monorail going through it. Now I'll put on my flame retardent suit. LOL

chainkid,

No flame here, different folks like different styles of hotels. Prior to joining DVC in 1992, the CR was always our first choice for a Disney Resort, I really like the open design. Although I doubt we'll purchase points there (we seem to be at the "just right" level for our normal vacation habits), it is one of the few DVC resorts (if built) that I'd really like to book at the 7 month window. The Poly is very pretty, and I like the theme, but I still prefer CR...and the GF is just too "foo-foo" for me to be comfortable, I'd feel like I'd have to "dress up" just to wander through the lobby...it's beautiful, but just not my style.

The monorail unloading is very noisy for my tastes. I guess my point is that everyone has different likes and dislikes and for me a DVC opening at CR had no appeal but others have already weighed in that they like it there. I can only say that DVC has lovely accomodations and always adds to the resort it is a part of, especially if they allow families to book here. You just can't compare a villa to a hotel room. As far as comparing it to an offsite timeshare...like comparing apples and oranges. DVC is maintained by Disney and is in pristine condition and will remain so because the resort referts back to them in 38 years. You could give me a palace offsite and I would turn it down because it doesn't have the disney magic. I have stayed in all the deluxes at one time or another and my opinion hasn't changed...unless you are booking one of the suite disneys , then most DVC villas are far superior especially for a family. .
