Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Okay, it's February. Trip is in May.

That means time to ramp my DisBoards game and start stalking this thread again.

I know it's been said before for sure but I lack the energy to go a-searching...can someone remember what the original showtime length was?

aaaand??? and???? :boat:

Obviously in person will be a different experience and wider view of the entire lagoon.
Via live stream these were my thoughts:

- The animal floats which I think are absolutely stunning seemed to have minimal part in the show. They came out and looked to park and then moved back in at the end with some type of projection on them. That made me sad.
- The lotus flowers are the stars with lots of water shooting up and in spirals etc that were pretty and the most impressive it seems they had their own miniature water walls that had animals projected on them so they looked 3D like they were moving. They are cool.
- The water walls look to be working and when they were doing more ghostlike (as in the promo renderings)and whispy projections it was really pretty and artistic. When they tried to to animal movies it lost some of it's wow, too much like Jungle Book. It looked like a projection, while the others looked like they were floating in the air.
- The music was bland and one song ran right into another, nothing memorable. Hoping in person it will have more feel.
- They have this "totem pole" looking thing that appears in the middle lotus with some fire on it .... maybe added after first reviews but it was one of those, why? things. Junkie looking.
- There were some lasers but minimal from what I could see. The lasers on the Flame Tree area during Jungle Book seemed more prominent. I think that was a missed opportunity unless they didn't show on the camera.
- The boats with the actors ............ I just didn't get it and they were so far away they were just lost in the whole thing. Again maybe in person ....
- There was no ending, it just stopped. The woman streaming turned her camera towards audience and everyone was just looking around at each other, clearly this issue has not been fixed.
- DS was watching with me and both felt it's parts were disconnected.

It doesn't matter to me what anyone said tonight they are all "Disney Mom's Panel" folks and they are not going to say anything negative. They've been doing commercial posts all day for their trip. I want to hear reviews after it opens from non-Disney and from folks who saw the last shows and compare it to what is put out there.

I will of course go see it if I get FP+. I don't feel it is what I expected from the original announcements. I have a feeling it will be "meh" but that is okay, it will draw folks in away from Pandora etc.

I'll look but the number 18 minutes is sticking in my head. Googled back and everyone said it was 18 minutes. Not sure what the original plan was, but that was what was said last round of preview. I did not think to time it tonight.

The fire was added later. They cut out some of the lagging parts which made it now 15 minutes instead of 18 during the initial previews.

These moms are also not on the moms panel. This is the Disney Social Media Moms celebration. These people are flown in from around the country for the annual event. They all have their own blogs that are travel or family related but not necessarily Disney related.

I watched the video posted to the news thread by Ryan (
) and I liked it but expect way more from an in person view rather than from someone's cell phone camera.

I actually did really like the music and am remembering the "touch the earth, feel the sun, we are one" refrain and liked the message. Sort of an illuminations version 2.0 to me. I did not like the tiger projections on the water screens and the middle part was SLLLOOOOW. Here's hoping they add more floats as they iron out kinks.

I'll still partake in the insanity to get FP+ or dining package reservations I'm sure... admittedly I'm a Disney kool-aid drinker....

I know many will talk about the lack luster finale but it really was never to have a in your face, lots of pyro type finale. It's supposed to be a grand and elegant show. It accomplishes that job.
