After what you just posted @HopperFan , I just don't know what to do anymore. Back when I started planning out right before Christmas trip it was all easy peasy because I wasn't going to plan much for DHS or AK except pop in for a moment and see Christmas tree at front, so we did 4 park days and a MVMCP day. Then DHS added a Christmas night show....squeezed that in with tentative dessert party.....then Disney Springs added a Christmas stuff! Think I squeezed that in. Currently have a section blocked off for an AK afternoon/evening till 7 close but I wish they would commit one way or the other so I can finalize!

SO MUCH STRESS!!!!

Well I look at it this way ............ if it does open the 18th .... it will be TOTAL CHAOS. That area can't handle the crowd of people that have been waiting like rabid dogs for this that won't be able to get a FP+, if they even offer them at first, trying to get in the SB line. We don't know if it can run back to back ... and it needs to run 3x to be able to cover the crowds that will come. I think my expectation is the experience and the other guests will be negative enough that I won't enjoy the show ... and that is assuming the show is good and doesn't glitch out.

I would much rather wait until this thing settles in, runs smoothly, offers FP+ and Dining Packages and they get a grip on how they will handle the inevitable disaster of SB .. if the show is good. If it is more the JBA style we might see the SB side of stadium more empty like when I went.

ENJOY your trip!

Our trip begins early December and you're right. The crowds will be ridiculous. Pardon the pun, but it will be a jungle. If it's nightly it may be doable but my DH will not do well in those crowds. I'm a bit afraid of them myself. I've seen people push, shove and jump over ropes for attractions/events you can see nightly and have been running for years so you can imagine what this will be like. I'm at least going to make the effort.

I will say I go regular enough that it wouldn't be painful for me to skip it and go when it's settled. But I certainly understand if you don't go often to keep your schedule flexible so you can hopefully be lucky. I mean if it becomes a "zoo" and unsafe feeling ... you can always leave and enjoy the Tree of Life's beauty.

This beast has clearly been out of Disney's control and if they are smart they won't even make this part of the normal schedule until it's running well, often and flawlessly. Good Luck to all hoping to see it.

Hakuna Matata or as DS always says to me, very slowly and deliberately .... woosah ... calm down and relax.

I'll be back March 2018 and may/may not see it then and I know I will be back other times than that. I'm slowly talking myself out of having to go. I know I will see it eventually.

I'm guessing there wouldn't be anything Christmas themed.

One more question for anyone that's been there during Christmas....are there Christmas decorations at AK that would call for specifically scheduling time there just to see them? Don't want to ride rides or see shows there.

The tree out front of the park is beautiful. There may be some garland etc about but
I recall nothing special in the park to see. NOW, with the park opened at night there may be something we aren't used to seeing.

I've heard Mickey & Minnie at Adventurer's Outpost are dressed in Christmas clothing, though I can't personally verify.

Yes I believe if memory serves me (I once used a photo with characters - Goofy or Donald - at AK for my holiday card) the characters have on all sorts of holiday clothes, even if just scarves.

We went to Epcot today (with about 100,000 of our closest friends - OMG I've never seen it so crowded!) and while standing on line for a margarita, the couple behind me were talking about RoL. The guy said something like "it was supposed to be open when we came in the summer, I can't believe it's still not open for our November trip!" and then they were talking about whether it would be open for their trip next summer. The girl ended up saying something like, "every time Disney tries to add something new, it takes forever. Universal does it so much quicker." Which is certainly the reputation Disney seems to have at this point.

As an aside, Dapper Day was today at Epcot, and I spent all day saying to DH "oh I love that dress! Oh I LOVE that dress! Oh her dress is so cute, I have to find out where it's from!" I had serious dress envy all day! Everyone looked amazing, especially all the little kids who were dressed up!

So glad you had a fun day, and window shopping too!! Seeing so many complaints about the crowds there and at MK. I looked at MK wait times last night - ouch!!!

Also spent some time catching up with ROL at that other place that provides all the "sourcing" to some .... what a hoot! Since they talk less filtered there some wish the "almighty" know it alls would just stop posting. As we've seen trickle over here the dates are presented as happening then retracted and new ones appear. The insiders there know nothing and said so much. I'll say it again NO ONE (not even Maggie) knows anything.

It think opens when it opens, plan around nothing said here and have a magical day! :earsgirl:

We'll be at wdw in less than 2 weeks!! Unfortunately, it looks like no ROL for us. Sigh. And JBJB is absolutely mediocre at best, so I'm not going to worry about seeing it. If we're around, we might catch it but otherwise, it might be a good night to turn in early.

Yeah that was a real bummer to watch. Can't wrap my head around a team of talented imagineers put that together and thought it was good. So much energy missing from it, I just don't get it. They would have been better off wrapping those buildings in lights and just do a music sync like Osborne Lights, the laser show part and end with a fireworks finale.

I had the same thought (well, not the Osborne part since I never got to see that :sad1: ) but I thought they would have been better with just good Christmas music, fun projections, and well-timed fireworks. The story line was really weak and just didn't work for me. Oh well. We'll still have lots of fun doing other things!

Orlando Park News reported that a RoL show took place around midnight last night.

A Rivers of Light show took place around midnight tonight, probably for Disney executives. The music could be heard from outside the park!

Wow! So, after about 10 months and 749 pages, maybe some progress! I'm keeping hope alive for April!

From your lips to ............. Baloo's ears cause I think he is project manager. But to play devils advocate, it could have been simply a test, maybe a test to see if it can run for D23, if it an run once per night (disaster) or if it needs to go back to the fine tuning phase for a later date. "Hearing music outside the park" does not mean they ran a full show. Doesn't sound like they saw anything. There may have been a technical run, doesn't mean there were any entertainers. Could have been full dress but may have been only technical if there are still float problems, especially with following quote .....

This was posted last night ...

1) Do not count on RoL quickly.
2) The dates have been pushed back, AGAIN.
3) WDW does not want to hire boat/barge drivers (read: PEOPLE).
4) And, the automated/driverless barges are not working.
5) More "technical" problems that could be solved by just hiring people, instead of doing-it-on-the-cheap.

wasn't the rumor of an opening on Nov 18? You would think that if that was the case, they would be releasing info...maybe even some FPs...

you would think...that's the funny part though, isn't it!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

YUP YUP rumor after rumor after rumor. Why do folks keep posting rumors, getting some excited? Ohhhh cause eventually you will be able to say you were right. :rolleyes1

We all know anything can happen and it's in Disney's best interest to make no announcements, just open it when it's done. It could open tonight, the possibility list is long. If it opens soon, maybe it's all SB, every man for himself. I think FP+ opened for last couple new things around 3-4 weeks out before official opening, so if you gauge them doing same, mid-December. Who knows ..... only Disney :ssst:.

Mr. Joe has been there for days and assume he will stay now through D23.
But then he has lots of not finished work there :smooth: ..... and I think a further delayed Avatarland will add fire to the fuel.
ROL already a joke, don't want the same to happen to the blue folks. ;)
