Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Sorry to hear about the disease. :( Hope you're doing well.

Good to know. I don't even get manicures lol! I do get pedicures and paint my toenails, but fingernail polish never lasts for me so I don't even bother.. Does gel polish damage your nails?

Ehhh... https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/b...httime-experiences-at-disneys-animal-kingdom/
Date completely revoked; new updates expected "mid to late May." We have no idea when it's going to go live.

I'm not sure about damage sorry I have gel coating on my nails. I think a lot has to do with how gentle your tech is at removing it.

I used to go very often til I had children. Now I get a pedi every 1 to 2 months. Occasionally I get manis but it seems when I get the gel polish it messes up my already thin nails...so I try to do it at home with a good Essie base coat, good Essie or OPI color and a gel like Essie topcoat.

I was loyal to gel manicures for a loooong time and kicked the routine last year in favor of Jamberry. My nails got so thin and brittle that I had to let them fully grow out before I could do anything with them. I'm sure gel manicures are different for everyone depending on how strong your natural nails are before the manicure.

:offtopic:...my NAIL story...I have paper thin nails and I could never get to grow. They would split and peel as soon as they grew out a tiny big. So years ago, I did acrylic nails, loved them, and got to where I was doing my own. Well that didn't end well, and a few years later, when I tried going back to a salon for them, I found I was now allergic to the chemicals used in the acrylic process. Gave up, and didn't try again for many years, but when I do finally go back, it was the same story: first application was great, but with each appointment after that, the swelling got worse and worse, to where I had to go in to get them removed...took quite awhile for my cuticles to heal from the swelling and splitting.

My nail salon owner recommended gel nails, and I have been very happy with them for probably 4-5 years! Any polish lasts much longer over the gel nails. So...every three weeks, I get them refilled and have had no issues with them at all.
You must get something different than what is offered at the salon I go to. The gel I get is a polish and gel all in 1. You don't/can't put another polish on top of it.
The damage comes from the soaking in remover to get them off. Acetone is damaging to nails just removing regular polish but it's usually such a quick process it doesn't have time to do much damage. Soaking in it on the other hand, does. That's why most end up with thin nails. And when they are thin to start with, it's really bad.

My nails are not very thick. I think I'll forego the gel manicures.

Seriously considering the mani/pedi at Swan and Dolphin for $51 + tip ($140 value.. is 20% off value price an acceptable tip? I feel like a little kid--I've never been to an actual spa!)

"A 50-minute manicure and 60-minute pedicure with a bamboo massage, conditioning body butter, and the fragrances of coconut, citrus, and lotus flower milk."
Sounds fun!

Ha! That's funny we're all booking this now - we'll have a Extra Magic roll call instead! I would rather be going to a ROL preview party, but I'm super excited for this tour! I was thinking the same thing about the $ - I should save it but it was burning a hole in my pocket!

I was reading @beesly 's post when I was on the phone, so I asked the CM- she said that on some of the back stage tours they say no backpacks for security reasons, but not this one? but who knows? Often CMs give different answers - maybe someone who has done can chime in?
Maybe it's because they go to different areas? Some areas may be ok to have a bag but others not. That's my best guess.

I really hope that they don't do away with allowing people to bring in food. I understand not bringing in like whole lunches or whatever but to not be able to bring in snacks? That's crazy. And how do they distinguish between food for adults vs food for babies? Allergies? Etc.

The reason I bring in food for the kids is because their kid meals and snack mostly suck, especially at MK. I'm in no way a health nut but when most options for my kids are suger loaded Smucker's, deep fried chicken nuggets or heavily artificial Mac and cheese, then no thank you! I rather bring them their fresh (not out of packagr) vegetables and fruits and a nice non pb&j sandwich.

Why do you suppose Disney's Morning Magic hours are every Tuesday in May except May 10th? Just curious.
That's the week we are there & it is a very odd week on the calendar. The 8th is the only Sunday with the paid After Hours. Which is Mother's day. The 10th has EMH so it doesn't have Morning Magic. And it closes an hour earlier than other days.

We don't bring in food, but I think the policy is unenforceable, and a bit ridiculous. Just think of all the people with a legitimate need to bring in their own food. Babies, diabetics, people with severe allergies or sensory issues... the list goes on.

I'm pretty doubtful that they'll completely do away with bringing in food into the parks anyway. But it might be something they do for awhile and then realize that they can't do it because people aren't buying as many tickets cause ... they won't have anything to eat when they get inside, because of budget and all of those other slew of legitimate reasons you mentioned. Even then, maybe not? Folks might think it's good, those who have a bigger budget or without dietary restrictions, etc. Either way--someone gets screwed over if they go with the no outside food thing.

This is not the gel polish, it's actual gel nails...applied just like the acrylic but a gel instead of powder, cured under the UV light, then with alcohol. There is no acetone soaking, other than to remove the polish on top. Works good for my wimpy nails...

Sorry Keith, I'll drop the Nail Topic now...:)

:offtopic: So, I asked this on another thread and got one response that was helpful but I thought I'd check and see if the loungers had any feedback...

I'm thinking of doing the Pirate Adventure Cruise out of BC&YC for my kids DS11 and DD9. Anyone who has children that have done this before - are my kids too "old?" If it helps, my son loves Sorcerer's of the MK, and generally likes scavenger hunts and adventure. I think they'd both love running around the World Showcase (love Agent P too), but not sure? Thoughts, concerns, advice?
Wondering the same thing. I know my 6 year old will love it. But I wonder if it's too "kiddy" for my 11 year old.

Thanks! They don't have those
I go mostly for my feet anyway.

I am NOT trying to stir up a controversy, but I'm just wondering -- how is Disney banning outside food unenforceable? Other theme parks, zoos, etc. do it all the time. I get that it would be really hard for people with young ones, diabetics, etc.. but how is it unenforceable if all of these other places do it?

Personally I think it's GREAT that Disney lets you bring in your own food. When we were kids we packed snacks pretty much every day.

I wonder if PP meant to lean towards saying that because they don't enforce other policies, that this specific policy might as well be in the same boat. But, maybe I'm wrong!

You know, this has been talked about now for quite awhile...has it actually been OFFICIALLY announced somewhere or is it just a rumor that has gathered a lot of steam? It's my understanding that bigger coolers have been banned, if not forever, at least for a long time. I am ASSUMING they are talking about banning that type of thing, rather than baby food, snacks, and necessary foods for folks with special needs.

We always bring in snacks, (nuts, fruit, a bottle of water, etc.) Can someone post the official policy link?

There is no official link; it's just a rumor for now.

I think it's unenforceable in the sense that they can't tell people with medical conditions that they can't bring in food that they need. No way do they want to open themselves up to lawsuits from folks who were told they couldn't bring safe snacks into the park for their child, and were later unable to find anything suitable - or worse, were told something was suitable when it wasn't. It might actually be part of the ADA that they must allow food for people with food allergies, but not having any allergies myself, I'll let someone else comment on that.

Also, much like with the DAS (I think that's what it's called now), they can't ask to see someone's medical records (by law). Can you see a security guard asking every guest with a granola bar, "Do you have a medical condition that warrants entering the park with this?" I just can't see it.

No, just rumors! Nothing official! Sorry, didn't mean to make it seem like I had heard something finite.

I am assuming the same - bagged lunches, stuff like that.

I used to work at a football stadium and they didn't allow in PURSES. Or food. Or anything other than factory sealed bottled water. They did make exceptions for babies and those who needed to eat. However, that's for a 3 hour game where you're limited on seating space, not a 12 hour park day.

Gotcha. I think the Poly would probably be too expensive for us either way. And my plan is to buy a smaller contract and just bank or borrow to go every two to three years. I think that's probably all I can get my hubby to agree to. At least initially anyway. ;)
Best way to start. I like your pragmatism. I was less dogmatic in my approach. I just brought direct to get exactly what I wanted.

I would say that is the one big flaw with the TP Res Finder. Once it finds something within an hour on both sides of your specified time, it stops looking and you have to restart it. I am looking for a very specific time for BOG and Scifi. We added our niece at the last minute and was able to get her a res for BOG 15 minutes after ours and at Scifi 30 minutes after ours so I'm trying to move hers up to our times for both. Every time I restart the res finder, it just spits the same times as before out at me so it isn't really helping. Oh well, back to checking 3 or 4 times a day
:charac2:
I have this same problem. I want very specific times, i.e. 9:45 at Cape May. And it keeps finding a 9am one. So I'm just looking for that one myself.

We're definitely going to do the Family Magic one, because it sounds awesome and I think they'll really get into it. I booked the pirate adventure cruise out of BC&YC because I think it sounded cool that they run around the World Showcase - mine love the Agent P stuff and it just seems fun. I'm going to talk it over with them and see what they think - this is the last year my son could do it, so I'm hoping he'll give it a shot. He generally doesn't tend to get self-conscious about being "too old" for things, and he loves meeting other kids whether older or younger, so I think he'll go for it!

Maybe the 11 year old will want to go to look after the younger one, but then get in the spirit too! It sounds like the CMs do a nice job!
