Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Disney is going to have a nightmare on their hands on the 22. Most vacationers aren't like us, they'll have heard it was opening on the 22 and made their plans and most likely won't hear it's been delayed, especially this close to it.

That's what I'm thinking...DME still has beginning 4/22, and we know how they forget to update that stuff - The Star Wars Dessert party still says ends on 3/31, I think! And I agree - it's so close! What a mess...

So, they say the blog will have info by mid May ... Yikes! So sorry for you April and (early) May folks! Trying to look for any sort of positive, maybe we can reach 1000 pages by then?
Thanks for this, I hadn't seen it. I am starting to get a little bit sad that some of the things I was so looking forward to on my trip (22 May - 5 June) won't be ready (RoL and Soarin' being the main 2). Also a little worried that I will be so obsessed with checking for RoL packages that I won't be enjoying my holiday lol! This will be my last trip to Disney for the foreseeable future so I am so hoping to make it a good one.

I think that this is why they haven't typically given set dates on stuff like this in the past. I feel bad because you never know what can happen and they want it to be perfect when it's live. I don't blame them - seems like if it launched and wasn't perfect, folks would go through the roof too.
And this is why it's rather shocking. The dates they've given in the past were always so firm. It was just expected this was too. Yes it was announced a bit earlier than say, 7DMT was but that just seemed to indicate they were that sure of it now. I wouldn't want to be on the team that made the decision to announce 4/22 or on the team that isn't meeting it

April people--I am sorry:

"With the expansion of Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, we’re excited to give Guests even more opportunities to celebrate the magic of animals and nature as day turns into night. While we’d hoped to debut these offerings on April 22, unfortunately, they will not open as planned on that date as we give the team more time to bring these innovative experiences to life in a way we know will exceed our guests’ expectations.

We’ll share more information about timing on Disney Travel News by mid- to late May. We checked in recently during rehearsals of two key elements of the nighttime experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park: the dramatic water and light show Rivers of Light, and the new nighttime magic at the Tree of Life."

Awww Man!!!

I go take a shower for 15 minutes and this drops! :scared1:

We're lucky enough to have an Aug trip planned in addition to our short Apr one, so I'll still stalk for package ADRs, Tiffins opening, etc. Not as CLOSELY as I have been, but I shall still stalk... :magnify:

Sorry to all my fellow Apr peeps -- wanna join me in Aug?!!?!?

I will be there with you MickeyMinnieMom. So glad I talked my mom into a quick girls (me, her, DD10, DD6, Niece 6) trip at the end of August. So I will still be :surfweb: this thread so I can make a ROL dining ADR.

We will also be back for Thanksgiving, so will have to be stalking that as well. Actually, that would make for a nice Thanksgiving dinner event.... wonder if I could pull that off!

And I have definitely decided that I will be customizing my magicband to be a "Rumors of light" band with our t-shirt and button logo. I will post pics once it's done.

Hang in there everyone!

Well, got my FPs switched. No big deal there.
I'm a little hesitant to schedule an ADR @ Yak&Yeti for our new AK day, 4/24. Reason being we have Jiko reservations @ 7:30 for our 'goodbye' dinner that night, and a 2:30 reservation in the park might mean that we're not hungry for dinner. I've always wanted to eat at Y&Y but never had the chance. Hmm, decisions, decisions...

And May

Well at least they announced something... we are going the week of 5/15 so I will now STILL be watching all the way thru the trip. I can see the opening delayed a month but the way that read it seems like there won't even be an announcemnt until mid May which means what? No opening until Mem Day wkend? June? This would be Soooo much easier if it was like going to UO/IOA, just book your room, show up, wake up and decide where you are going that day and actually get to do it.
I'm thinking it will open a month after the blog entry. Can't see them giving 2 weeks-- if blog post end of may, I would think July 4-15 maybe

True but if the project isn't announced then does the general public really know? Or care? This is different

It is somewhat different in that they gave a date they were planning to open. BUT they did not allow anyone to book FP+ or ADRs for the dining package and did not extend park hours .... so that alone was the red flag for the general public that something was up or the date was wrong.

My point on my post was PP stated that it was unusual for Disney to not make deadlines.

Can you eat at Yak and Yeti earlier?
And they do have some very good appetizers so you can eat light
