Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Well at least they announced something... we are going the week of 5/15 so I will now STILL be watching all the way thru the trip. I can see the opening delayed a month but the way that read it seems like there won't even be an announcemnt until mid May which means what? No opening until Mem Day wkend? June? This would be Soooo much easier if it was like going to UO/IOA, just book your room, show up, wake up and decide where you are going that day and actually get to do it.

I'm thinking July at this point, but my negativity creeping in/--if blog entry end of May, I'm hopeful that we get to see it in the summer!! Booked 6/30-7/9. Feel bad for all the April and May people --- has Disney ever been so wrong about a proposed opening? Serious question --- not trying to be sarcastic
You may be right....July is probable. I'll be there from July 12-26 so assume I'll be able to see it, but will keep flexible anyhow....

Sounds like everything? Anyone?

"While we’d hoped to debut these offerings on April 22, unfortunately, they will not open as planned on that date as we give the team more time to bring these innovative experiences to life in a way we know will exceed our guests’ expectations."

I interpret to mean multiple things are not starting including Tree and RoL. If tree is not working no sense in the party in front of it, so if that is out why have crowds at the other party. Best bet for biggest WOW factor is start them all at once.

The blog says: "While we’d hoped to debut these offerings on April 22, unfortunately, they will not open as planned on that date."

Sounds like everything is delayed. I'm so disappointed.

I am too - very sad. And given that they're not giving details on the timing until mid to late May, they must have known for a while they wouldn't make the 4/22 deadline. Grrrr...

Disney is going to have a nightmare on their hands on the 22. Most vacationers aren't like us, they'll have heard it was opening on the 22 and made their plans and most likely won't hear it's been delayed, especially this close to it.
Yep. I'm still rather shocked they made an announcement on something that wasn't ready to be announced. Very unlike them. And now it's bit them in the hiney

Doing the same !! Watch Disney put out another blog entry-- for and extra $149 pp, we will let you watch "the jungle Book" as it will be projected off the river in time for its 4/15 theatrical release!

Just went to watch it on YouTube, sometimes quality better ............ it is an UNLISTED video and asked me to "Be considerate and think twice before sharing." ?????

Well, not really. The difference here is they published a date long before they should have giving guests expectations and planning around it.

MANY projects get delayed over and over for issues. Not on schedule: Frozenland, Avatarland ... happens all the time.
True but if the project isn't announced then does the general public really know? Or care? This is different

I thought it would be more disappointed that ROL isn't happening for our April trip, but I'm almost relieved . Waiting and checking as much as we all have, and then concern the park would be super crowded I'm really OK with it not happening for this trip. Now I can finalize our AK day. It will be at the top of my list for our next Disney trip!!

ha! - I feel the opposite. I thought I had accepted that I probably wouldn't see it, but now seeing the update I realize I was still holding out hope. :(

And since we're probably not due to go back until April 2018, it's kind of a bummer. maybe that will change...

Well, I can finalize some plans now, but still haven't recovered from the Extra Magic hour swap from a week or so ago...was just going to post about that before this blog post...

Oh man and I thought I'd be good for last days of May. If I didn't just book airfare on Saturday I'd have half a mind to cancel my trip... (No I wouldn't... But it's upsetting)

I think that this is why they haven't typically given set dates on stuff like this in the past. I feel bad because you never know what can happen and they want it to be perfect when it's live. I don't blame them - seems like if it launched and wasn't perfect, folks would go through the roof too.

Again, sounds like my workplace. When my boss finally decides to admit to a schedule slip and share it with upper management, we're usually a couple of months behind. Until it gets that bad, he refuses to believe that the smaller slips are something we can't overcome - perhaps the same sort of thinking was going on at WDW...

I guess I need some advice now... what would you all do? We are frequent flyers so seeing everything every trip is not necessary. And we will be back in Sept. We are doing three park days May 1,2,3... I bought a hopper for my son just for ROL, and now I am not even sure I should go to AK. My plans are now: May 1st MK in the am and AK evening, May 2nd: Epcot morning DHS afternoon, May 3rd: MK all day. I am deeply considering changing all day the 1st to MK, since we are staying at the contemporary. We have our FPs set for AK evening, not that we would need anything hard to get if we change those to MK. decisions, decisions... oh, and we are on the dining plan, so if I drop AK I would need a new TS meal too.
