Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

I've been lurking in the shadow for weeks....and couldn't take it anymore.

I'm one of those people who really sees the benefits of MDE. In theory, it should make our vacations easier to plan-- but my last two visits have been infinitely more stressful BECAUSE of MDE. 18 months ago, our trip was planned and ready to roll--we had all the ADR's, FP+'s, special event tickets for all the times and days we wanted. Fantastic until my daughter went to the hospital and we had to postpone our trip at the last minute. It was a monumental feat to get ADR's during Free Dining...yikes..and to get FP+'s (especially on days where MK was opened half-day for parties). Our plan wasn't ideal, but we made it work despite a ton of planning stress.

THIS time, we dropped the dining plan because of the stress of planning ADR's. We're trying to plan a trip for the last week of April-- and we'd really like to see AK at night (thinking this should off-set a half-closed DHS). When Dis announced RoL, we got the kids excited about the show, safari, etc... and now we're less than a month away, and we have no idea what's going on. I know it's 1st world problems, but why did Dis make an announcement about the 22nd?? That alone wouldn't have been a big deal...but THEN they release After Hours packages during our trip that seem like a colossal desperate cash grab. I'm sure this will all work out, but it's a headache and I need a vacation from planning for a vacation.

Bottom line, my kids are 5 and 7 and this is probably the last Dis trip we'll make for awhile---not only are we considering Universal, but we may go there instead of AK on our upcoming trip. Dis really needs to get it's stuff together.

Ok.. going to go back to the shadows....
First, I hope your daughter is in good health. I wish her well. :tinker:

Second, no need to go back to the shadows. Stay out and play. :mickeyjum

Thanks. She's good now :) Nasty respiratory virus + undiagnosed asthma. Yea for her!

And I'll stay out of the shadows....for a little bit....be careful what you wish for.....
Glad to hear it. Without knowing anything else, I know you and I have two things in common. We both have at least one daughter and we are both Disney obsessed for our daughter(s).

Btw, it took me a while to come out of the shadows on here. This thread certainly assisted.

:welcome: I wish I could offer some solution, but all I can offer is empathy! I agree it's been super stressful planning this time around - usually I find it a little stressful but mostly fun. I'm glad your daughter is feeling better for this trip. Hopefully, once you get there you'll get caught up in the magic - at least that's what I'm hoping/counting on for us! I've thought about the same thing regarding AK at night - still holding out hope for a FP but I'm trying to reframe it and just enjoy the evening there - I've heard it's really beautiful there at night!

I guess sometimes she rides it before her M&G - it was totally by accident but very cool! My son was quite taken with her!

We also rode the Tea Cups with Alice - I think the same deal! I hear the step-sisters ride the carousal before their M&G - I haven't seen it, but I've seen pictures and it looked hilarious!

We were in line once when the stepsisters were on the carousel...they were hilarious! Completely in character yelling at each other and everyone else around them...one of them got "stuck" on her horse and was extra dramatic trying to get off of it...my DD still talks about it lol

That's awesome! Someone posted a picture here of them on the carousel - hilarious! My daughter was so excited to meet them and Lady Tremaine, but alas, just the sisters these days!

Sometimes you can't really grasp how lucky you are! I had just dropped off my then DD2 at day care, too! I got hit front and center by a guy turning into a one way street the wrong way. Broke my ankle pretty badly. I still walk on crutches. But we're going to Disney nevertheless :)
Well I hope you have a fabulous time!!

:welcome:

I know exactly how you feel! But, as some have said previously, I think that knowing so much is what makes it so frustrating--if you can let it go when you're there and not worry about things happening outside the realm of your family vacation, it will be magical and wonderful! At least, that's what I'm telling myself, as well. :cloud9:

Hi, my name is Maineiak....and I'm a Disney-holic

[Insert group response here]

I have not taken a break from checking this thread in over a week. I've been lurking, and checking, and responding to thread watch notifications.

I also have to admit that when I heard that RoL was going to premiere on 4/22, I changed my planned park and park plans for our upcoming vacation.

Please help guide me.

A spontaneous, low-key trip is always doable. What's not doable is expecting a spontaneous trip to have the same feel as a heavily planned trip. That doesn't mean it won't be magic. You just do different things, eat at different places, ride different rides.

lol ok do-able to meet my minimum expectations for a disney park trip. We are fortunate to visit often, and love to work our APs for bonus trips.

I'm very flexible, last trip end of February was booked a week ahead of time. I had to really work at to be able to book Kona for dinner and work in acceptable FP, some the day of:). However, I do have my concerns as to these sort of future trips working out as well for us with all the new developments...time will tell.:wizard:
