Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Hi, my name is Maineiak....and I'm a Disney-holic

[Insert group response here]

I have not taken a break from checking this thread in over a week. I've been lurking, and checking, and responding to thread watch notifications.

I also have to admit that when I heard that RoL was going to premiere on 4/22, I changed my planned park and park plans for our upcoming vacation.

Please help guide me.

Not only did I change my park days, but I talked DH into tacking on an extra day on our vacation with the hopes of seeing magical lanterns and memorable lights! So far, I haven't delivered anything solid, so I'm probably not the best guide! But, yay! extra night!

it's a win no matter how you slice it lol!

I have been checking back and forth trying to decide if I should AK 5/1 or 5/2. 5/1 is currently most recommended, but it's a Sunday--the second weekend after RoL supposedly starts... so I thought maybe locals may increase the evening time crowds. 5/2 is a Monday, not recommended due to 8 am EMH that were announced after I picked up. I've considered RPing at 8 am, taking a ~5 hr afternoon break, then returning for the evening festivities and hopefully RoL... but I keep going back and forth on the plan. Epcot (which we'd do whichever day wasn't AK day) is recommended both days. :teacher: This decision probably should not concern me as much as it does.

I called this evening to book a different experience, but figured I might as well ask about RoL while I was on the line. ;) The CM I spoke to said, of course, nothing available yet and no word on when it would be. She said that it is the opening of the new restaurant that is delaying their release and that they were looking to have them in 2 restaurants and might end up going with Yak and Yeti along with Tusker House initially because of the delay on Tiffins. She said that RoL was still on track for opening next month, but that we would likely be some of the first people to get to experience it with a dining package based on our trip time (early June), as she does not believe they will be opened up for a while. Who knows on the accuracy of the info, but thought I'd pass it along!

P.S. Doing the 300 dance
I would love it if this were true. We are early June and are planning to eat TH for bfast and Y&Y for dinner (have ADRs). Sounds like we would have a good shot at a dining package....but only if it were true.

I really would like to know how many people call A DAY to ask them about ROL?!? They have to have a standard canned answer that was distributed to them all by now! LOL
Enough to make the CMs...

AHAHAHAHHAH!!! Those poor CMs!!! I know what it's like to answer phones in the WORLD, I cannot imagine answering the same question all day and every day!!! LOL!! I think I would be bugging management like CRAZY or just coming up with made up answers to keep people guessing and me from repeating the same thing non stop!

I've been lurking in the shadow for weeks....and couldn't take it anymore.

I'm one of those people who really sees the benefits of MDE. In theory, it should make our vacations easier to plan-- but my last two visits have been infinitely more stressful BECAUSE of MDE. 18 months ago, our trip was planned and ready to roll--we had all the ADR's, FP+'s, special event tickets for all the times and days we wanted. Fantastic until my daughter went to the hospital and we had to postpone our trip at the last minute. It was a monumental feat to get ADR's during Free Dining...yikes..and to get FP+'s (especially on days where MK was opened half-day for parties). Our plan wasn't ideal, but we made it work despite a ton of planning stress.

THIS time, we dropped the dining plan because of the stress of planning ADR's. We're trying to plan a trip for the last week of April-- and we'd really like to see AK at night (thinking this should off-set a half-closed DHS). When Dis announced RoL, we got the kids excited about the show, safari, etc... and now we're less than a month away, and we have no idea what's going on. I know it's 1st world problems, but why did Dis make an announcement about the 22nd?? That alone wouldn't have been a big deal...but THEN they release After Hours packages during our trip that seem like a colossal desperate cash grab. I'm sure this will all work out, but it's a headache and I need a vacation from planning for a vacation.

Bottom line, my kids are 5 and 7 and this is probably the last Dis trip we'll make for awhile---not only are we considering Universal, but we may go there instead of AK on our upcoming trip. Dis really needs to get it's stuff together.

Ok.. going to go back to the shadows....
I'm with you on this one. We extended our vacation and are staying on/off site to do some other things besides Disney. (and yes, there IS something besides Disney ;) ) With what's going on now, we may do the same, only we want to take the little ones to Sea World and Aquatica. So, if I don't get AK in a timely manner, I'll drop that day and either pick up another US day or Sea World. The early/late paid for hours are messing up my so carefully crafted plans a bit as well, but I'll just roll with it. To be honest, I wasn't really looking forward to being up so early (not our touring style) but we were going to give it the old 1, 2 anyway. If they do the extra morning paid event, I'll drop the ADR and sleep in. This has been such a roller coaster I'm pretty much over it. We'll do what we do and it may not be perfect but my 2 little DGDs won't even notice. (Yeah, I say that but last time we chased every princess, or paid to dine with them, Christmas party with them, or fast passed our way into their lairs. When we were looking back and reflecting, DGD4 said, "We didn't meet Rapunzel". Really? You noticed that? Guess who we have a fp for this time. (Silly us, we dropped Rapunzel, BOG, and other ressies in order to "fit in" Harry Potter.

I have to say, every CM I have spoken to EVERY day (at least once) has been very helpful and cheerfully tried to find me a ressie. Every one has looked in the reservations, and one even searched different names (Tusker House package). I've been very pleased, and we've had some nice chats.

The only thing that makes me doubt Y&Y is it is not Disney owned I don't even know if phone CM even know that I can envision them sitting around talking about all the calls and speculating about the delay and guessing Y&Y is an option. Not saying it isn't possible but it isn't as simple as a Disney owned location would be

We were in line once when the stepsisters were on the carousel...they were hilarious! Completely in character yelling at each other and everyone else around them...one of them got "stuck" on her horse and was extra dramatic trying to get off of it...my DD still talks about it lol
The sisters are awesome. Last summer I was sitting at the tables by the ice cream place when they were asking in for a break. A guest asked Drizzela where Cinderella was. She answered, without missing a beat, "why inside in the air-conditioning of course"

We are dealing with similar "angst." Currently planned for AK on 5/2 to use the EMH and be out by 2pm, or 3pm the latest as we have dinner planned with family from Tampa that night at DS. Should FP+ become available for RoL we plan to shift one to the show pending any tiering and just go back to the park that night. Alternatively if FP+ is available for RoL on 4/30 (arrival day) then we will have dinner at Epcot that night and use our FP+ for AK for the show in lieu of doing any FP's at Epcot.

We have the same plan, so it would make me happy as well. Not sure what to do if they only have TH dinner as the dinner package option. Not really interested in the dinner food.

I thought about that. But the fact that it's not Disney owned could explain the delay as well. With an outside owner, dining package terms would need to be negotiated, and if adding Y&Y only happened as a response to a Tiffins' delay, those terms would not have been worked out previously. I don't really actually think we'll end up with Y&Y packages, but considering all angles. I really do think it's just that they want Tiffins as a package and are waiting for it to be ready. I'm remembering that they initially posted an opening date of 4/22 along with RoL, then pulled back the Tiffins date.
