Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Is ROL actually going to start.....?????

Good question! No announcement, but we should keep watching. :)

I'm doubting it's ROL-related. AK's normal closing time in June is 8pm. This is the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, just days ahead of June. Seems like a response to anticipated crowds and taking advantage of longer daylight hours more than anything else.

ETA: AK also has a morning EMH scheduled on that day, so I can see why Disney would anticipate a crowd for that park on that day, in addition to it being a holiday weekend.

OK, looking at the new DHS stuff they have added Star Wars fireworks for our HS day (yay!) - however, we were planning on seeing Fantasmic and it is at 9pm while the fireworks are at 9:45.

Does anyone know where you can see the fireworks from? Is it even possible to do both on the same night since they don't seem to have added a second Fantasmic?

We figured it might be cutting it close trying to file out of the theater, but would be ok with a less "prime" spot for the fireworks if we could still see and hear the music.

We did it for the frozen fireworks. We made sure we sat near the top in the fantasmic theater. When it was over, we beelined towards the sorcerers hat area for the fireworks. We managed to get a spot, not the best spot, but enough to enjoy it. We were sort of near brown derby

Definitely an option - I want my mom to have a good view since we haven't seen it in a really long time, but sitting toward the back could help without sacrificing too much in the way of our Fantasmic enjoyment.

Over on the Star Wars thread they've given out strategies. @yulilin3 and @Robo have both posted strategies about how to do both.

So glad that our Fantasmic night has no SW fireworks scheduled. I was really dreading that mad dashing. We'll just use our AK night now to hop over to DHS for fireworks. So excited about this! I'll keep it a secret from the boys so they can have a "OMG OMG STAR WARS" moment. They've been both humming Imperial March for weeks now.

You are not alone!
Not me. I'd get a bit smaller house that could be rented out at high season when I wouldn't want to be there. If I was rich enough to be able to do that I'd donate the rental money to something like Make A Wish. I'd keep something up in my neck of the woods for when I want to spend time with my family and avoid crowds.

ROL pin is officially in MK and about to ride Winnie the Pooh!
yeah!!! Hope you are having the vacation you dreamed about!! We have one more week until we arrive....

On another note, if you remember, I asked advice about how to convince my sister to go to WDW with me next year. This week, we were on a four day trip to Phoenix to visit an ailing elderly family member (who is doing well now, thank you all for thinking of us and her!) and I'm now reporting that I gave up on the idea.

During our trip, I realized that no matter what I said or did, Disney is not for her, and something that should never happen. It would not be a good vacation for either of us. Some things are better just left alone. And while I know she would really love some things, the attitudes about other things we disagree on might just ruin something I love.

But. boy am I glad I know this NOW instead of finding out during a trip there with her that she doesn't want to do, and neither of us would enjoy.

C'est la vie.:sad2:

ETA: I missed reading this thread while I was gone, and when I got back, found I am hopelessly behind...I'll try to catch up and get current!

Glad your relative is doing well. Sounds like you made a wise decision with regards to your sister.

Since it is kinda parks and tomorrow includes Animal Kingdom ........

DS ran the Star Wars 10k this morning. He was a runner in high school and college, has coached HS cross country and track for years with a couple success stories ........ but no longer runs other than for fun ............. loves SW so wanted to do for fun as all his other Disney World Half Marathons were for time and you can't stop. Courses have changed much since he ran there.

You start at Epcot but end at WoW.
- Because he has not run for years he had a late corral and said the stagger starts meant he not only waited in corral for start but then his corral was held 45 minutes. If as big as other Halfs at WDW his stagger tomorrow could be 1.5 hours.
- The course was overall so narrow that folks couldn't move and lots were getting upset at being stuck.
- Disney grossly underestimated the desire for character photos and lines were SO long they were closed.
- No Powerade, just water.
- At end the bus lines to get back to Epcot and cars was crazy. Took him 1.5 hours to get back to his car.
- There were folks with flights who are runners enough to know when they can book but said they might miss flights.
- Not knowing how many ran today vs tomorrow this means he won't get to his car until AFTER he was to be out of hotel so will have to take all his stuff with him.

These races are insanely expensive now and many are paying for all the perks along the way and organization. He said compared to other races this was no were near as well run. And honestly comparing what he paid vs the After Hours Night Party he should have gotten water, coke, powerade, mickey bars, mango bars ............. all he could eat & drink.

Oh yesterday waited 45 minutes to meet BB8 (he is a SW geek) and due to lightning 10 miles out closed it. WHY IN THE WORLD would you put a highly popular character in a tent outside when you have indoor buildings you can use???

Maybe some of these planners crossed trained for RoL. :D

ON UP SIDE: He is also an Illuminations addict so he popped into Epcot last night after just for that. He went in to the F&G gift shop and bought a F&G Tervis cup for me!!! I love my Tervis :flower1:

Awesome!!! Hope you guys are having a blast!! It's so fun to think that one of our loungers is hanging out in the world now!! Way to represent!!
Currently we're representing by my husband taking his bus nap! But we're having a blast! Taking a break, getting crowded! SDFP update - just tried, looked like plenty available but kept getting error message - ugh!

Thanks for the update! Were you trying for SDFP at a kiosk or on your phone?

It's much more crowded than I expected it to be! We are at HS and there aren't many FP left. Having a blast though!

I was trying out the phone thing. We didn't really need it at that point. We had been there since EMH but had just did our FP for 7DMT, and DS loves Winnie so figured I'd give it a shot since it's just across and I wanted to see how it worked. As PP said, it got really crowded so I don't know if it was just glitchy? You could see that some stuff was available and some wasn't, you just couldn't finish the transaction without the error message. Waiting for Ferrytail Wishes! Sorry there were so many issues with the race, @HopperFan - that must have been disappointing!
