Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Okay, so I just called dining again. I know, I know, let it go. No, seriously I called for another reservation. Do any of you know if Big River Grille is a Disney owned restaurant? the CM I talked with said she couldn't make a reservation there but she didn't know why. She just said that they never had made pressies for that restaurant. Also, saw another update last night. For those of you going the week of April 15th...the MK train will not be in operation. I was a little bummed about that!
@Bvcfourus
It's not Disney owned, but I think you can reserve Big River Grille on Open Table.

OK, I think it's out of my system. At least 6 rejected Comments yesterday to the Blog, then one got through that was actually quite negative - it has since been deleted. My last attempt did get through and is for this group more than anything.

I am a bit confused. I was all the sudden able to score a 6:30 Tusker House on my AK day (5/16). Park hours are listed as closing at 6pm. Is it normal for reservations to be available a half hour after the park closes? Up until now the latest ones I have found are up to the park closing time...

Last reservation of the day. Although the park will close at 6pm it actually closes the attractions then (well cuts the line) and tends to have a little later restervations for those who are at a show or on a ride. I think the last show finishes at 6 so they give you some time to get there. Its also a ploy so you have "shopping time" as people are leaving the park

Holy crap, I miss one day and the thread leaps about 50 pages!

I'm not surprised it's all delayed, that's how my friend made it sound. She's one of the few whose really relieved, she was dreading having to put something out there that wasn't ready, and it sounds like this gives them plenty of time to fix all the issues. She kind of made it sound like Joe Rohde might have been the one to finally get them to put things on hold; she said even he saw how things were progressing and voiced his concerns.

Having said that, even as a local I'm annoyed, so I can't imagine how those planning trips must feel :furious: This and the Frozen stuff and Soarin' and the new no-longer-free EMH events makes planning so hard, and I know lots of people have worked hard to get all their ducks in a row only to have plans messed up.

In other news, I ordered my RoL t-shirt, DS3 has a t-shirt and Grayson has a onesie! So if you see us walking around the parks, come and say hi! My shirt is bright pink, DS3's is white, and Grayson's onesie is blue. DH wanted nothing to do with them  Something about 'unprofessional.' Party pooper.

Big river grille doesn't take reservations. You can do call ahead though.

Too funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like I said before I hate being an ADR hog never ever did that before. I've even felt guilty about cancelling one a few days out when we knew it would be one too many. Some how I don't feel guilty at all being double booked on our AK days. We were going to upgrade to APs when we go this summer but my dh is now on the fence about that also. We're still a bit over 3 months out and our plans are still not set. We're not sure if or how the upcharge morning and night things may affect our plans. All I can say is I'm glad we have hoppers.:furious:

may I vent for one second? I've come to realize with the amount of people who have said they booked their trips around ROL opening / ROL premiere day, the crowds will now be elevated for my trip starting on 4/21. *sigh* so much for 4s/5s/6s for crowds, if a lot of people booked trips starting around 4/22 they are still going to go regardless of ROL, I wonder if anyone will do a revised crowd calendar, I'm curious (and afraid) to see what the new calendar will look like

now that's out of the way, let's have some fun!

What do you think? If you couldn't tell, we're early morning to late night GO GO GO people on our Disney vacations that also love food...
I think your trip sounds great! "Anna and Elsa sister trip"...I love it! I hope you have fun, even without ROL!

Big River Grille does not take reservations, at least on the Disney site. Maybe the Open Table option as someone else mentioned. Otherwise, its a walk-up place. Nice for a lunch when you aren't quite sure what time you will be arriving on the first day....

Okay, thanks. I was thinking that was all it was but was not sure since I had not seen one actually start after park closing yet. Sigh.. well on the bright side.. at least I will get to experience Animal Kingdom "after dark" ! It should be at least 8 by the time we get done with Tusker House. Perhaps we will be able to catch a glimpse of some nighttime ROL testing. I plan to encourage my kids to eat slowly and prolong every character interaction during that meal.

I agree...we did book BOG for that very slight edge over the rope drop people, but for the record, we also just put in our pre-order for breakfast, and for the four of us, each paying $24 for an entrée and beverage, and being on top of the planning enough to get the reservation in the first place 180 out, it's not like we're gaming the system. If they didn't want people to take advantage by ordering one tiny thing or take the $10 no-show hit, they perhaps should have done the early breakfast differently.

I realize that no matter WHEN they implement something new, it's going to affect SOMEONE'S vacation...but getting both the ROL news and this the same day is really hard. Going back a few steps in my stages of grief here! But, I also know that it's going to be a wonderful trip....and these things will be tiny compared to the great experiences we will have!

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I booked a BOG early breakfast at 8:10 AM (and there were a lot of reservations available around that time even 1 to 2 months ago). This also happens to be on my actual birthday! I didn't do it to get a headstart on rides, because that's never my priority. I did it to get in the park early for some good photos before the place is mobbed! I suppose, though, that most of the early magic hours people will be running to the 3 rides. But, as discussed, this day is one of the early morning magic package days as of yesterday's announcement. I hope they will let me order cupcakes. I may be in the minority, but I'm not otherwise thrilled with their food. I'll still make the best of it!

I think I've officially hit rock bottom with my planning for my June trip. I'm really disappointed in what's been announced today... Between hearing that ROL is postponed & now that a MK morning "pay for play" event is happening on my one MK day... I'm done! I'm tired of trying to plan a trip with a company that cares more about their bottom line than their customers...
My ticker today is 2 months 2 weeks 5 days! VERY close to yours! Hoping for FEA, ROL, and Soarin to be open for DS's graduation trip! He said last night that he would be DEEPLY disappointed if not! Here's hoping! :)

I like your comment, Keith. Here's what I just posted, but I doubt they will let it through:

I echo other comments here. After the hard marketing of ROL and night time activities at Animal Kingdom, and waiting two months, all the while being told time and time again by phone CMs and Blog posts that details were coming SOON, even VERY SOON, the news yesterday that this has been totally pushed back until sometime this summer is very disappointing. This news was only trumped by the release of the Early Morning Magic availability, which will definitely impact our end of April vacation.

To be required to plan for dining, FPs weeks and months ahead of a visit and then have changes like this happen two weeks before our vacation is not only disrespectful of your guests, but diminishes the Disney name.

I've been a life long Disney fanatic. After yesterday's announcements, I'm rethinking future trips. Thanks for bursting our Disney bubble. No Pixie Dust here!

New blog post on Early Morning Magic: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/b...e-and-more-during-disney-early-morning-magic/

Nothing we don't already know, really.
My dh put his foot down last night and said the only upcharge he might even consider is a SW party and maybe not even that. He said if I don't have firm plans this close to a trip something is very, very wrong. He's usually not very involved in planning except for a list of dining locations he'd like me to book. It's bad when even he knows something's off.

I just noted that we can now pre-order our BOG lunch. Is there any advantage to doing that? I'm afraid that when I order something now for the kids, they will decide on something entirely different when our actual visit comes around.....

I am also very undecided if I should look for a TH breakfast for us again. This whole ROL thing has left sort of a sour taste. We have the F! dining package set up for dinner at H&V so they have a character dinner there, even with the same characters. And I rather keep the F! dining package now that ROL isn't hapenning. Hmm..... How does the Harambe Market food compare to TH in "exoticness". That was one of the reasons why we went to TH as well.
