Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Well, I have to say Im bummed. We were really looking forward to ROL. (we;ll just have to go back!) We will still go to AK on Earth Day and enjoy the day there. I have never been to a book signing before. Do any of you know how it works? He will be there from 1-2 or something like that. Do you just stand in a long line or do you get tickets for it??? Thanks for the fun this last month. I have certainly enjoyed reading this thread everyday. I hope you all have "magical" vacations when you go!

Ok so here is the plans now:

Are you space folks? Try NASA, if you're driving, for 4/21. If not, um. Pool? :D

Okay, time for a positive post. For my fellow loungers who like Vera Bradley and could use some new items - I recall some people talking about how much they like the crossbody to carry through Disney parks - there are some great sales today on Zulily and also on VB's eBay store. I am going to try to go bagless at the parks, but just bought a new weekender bag to use for my airplane carryon for $38 shipped ($98 retail)!

Wow, thanks so much for sharing! On your tip, I just bought a hipster cross-body for such a great price!!!

Someone asked for a group hug ....

Well I guess it's time to move on and plan ....

The Celebrate the Non-Dining Package for the Non-Preview event for the Rumors of Light!! Event

We need to lift our fellow loungers spirits and make them smile once again.

NOW .... do you think we could get this through security to the FT pavilion for the event. I feel like it can really make up for the lights, bringing joy and ..... dancing ... that is inevitable.

It's funny that you say that...I've been thinking a lot about that with this trip. Mine are 11 and 9 - still young but definitely not littles anymore. DS11 doesn't want to do Jedi training for the first time! It's bittersweet - happy not to have to deal with sign up but sad! He may change his mind, of course. DD9 didn't want to do BBB this year either, and we're pretty cut back on princesses! Just Mulan, really. I told them we were cutting back on character meals, which they love, and they wanted to keep CP. I have an 'Ohana breakfast scheduled as a surprise, but it feels funny not to have a princess meal! Even DS loves them - he gets starstruck, lol! It's been so fun to plan with them, since they're so into it, but still bittersweet for mama to leave one stage for another! I'm getting weepy just writing this!

I've often said to DH that one of my favorite things about Disney is how it changes in different phases of your - and your children's - lives! Especially with our kids - there are old favorites but always new things each and every time! pixiedust:

And not to sound sappy but to echo what @figmentfan423 said - enjoy every phase!

Sorry to reply so late in the thread but I can really relate to feeling sad that my sons (12 & 15) don't like all the things they used to love (which is normal for them I know)! Last summer my DS 12 wouldn't do Jedi Training in Paris, even though I pushed! He says he might try it this summer in Florida. I still remember the trauma in 2009 of standing around the barrier as the CM was picking children and trying to look desperate. They both finally gone on but it took a couple of attempts! They are very excited though to visit Florida for the first time since 2009 - I just hope it will live up to their memories of it!

I agree with your point about how the holiday changes at the different stages of their lives - we have found that too! I found it very strange last year in DLP that we could let the boys wander and go on rides on their own and then meet up later!

I know! Every new stage brings wonderful things, but still miss the old stages! The new stage this year is the water parks for the first time! They're so excited for them! I think my DS11 will be 40YO and Winnie the Pooh will still be his favorite ride, lol!

Ahhhh, so 25 pages since I left to take my son to the doctor. Sorry, I had to skip ahead, but I did see the big (unfortunate) news. Argh. Disappointing and honestly, kind of unexpected that they would be that far behind, it's not a small slip. But ok. Decision made for me - we could only go to either the non-existent May SW fireworks or ROL (needed a not so late night to pack up either Thurs or Fri). Despite my screen name and avatar, I actually preferred ROL. Disney, I will forgive you for all of this if you extend SitS through May. Then I will be content with how things turned out. In a way, I'm just relieved that the freight trains of FEA, ROL and to a lesser extent BTMRR refurb are now beyond my vacation. Back to the plan original AK plan of taking my girls on Primeval Whirl as many times as they can stand in the late afternoon and then having the whole family have our final vacay dinner at Chef Mickeys that night.

Sorry for everyone in late May with the uncertainty of FEA and ROL now affecting you even more. But hopefully you'll at least get to see them. :grouphug:

I have been at a golf tournament all day with no phones allowed. Can someone fill me in on what happened? My trip is 5/4-5/13. Thanks!

I know I said before that I'd been trying to accept that this likely wouldn't happen for my trip in 19 days but I think I lied to myself. I was really looking forward to seeing AK at night and seeing this new show. And showing it to my family! (I'm actually going in October with friends for my birthday so at least I can see it then but my brother, sister, and parents will miss it all).

I'm possibly most upset that while Jenny from Guest Experiences promised I was on a list of folks to call I got no call before the Parks Blog post went up. Did anyone else get the call we were told we'd get? I'm tempted to call her and ask what happened there...

I checked my email from Jenny when I missed her original call on Sunday and apparently her days off are Tuesday and Wednesday, which would explain why she didn't make any calls today. Of course, other CMs could have made the calls...

There is a small part of me that wonders if the timing was deliberate but that seems unlikely. Doesn't it?

Since we are talking itineraries, mine is:

4/21 Arrival/check in at AoA, then off to Epcot with dinner at Coral Reef
4/22 AK, lunch at Rainforest Cafe, now likely we will end the day at Disney Springs
4/23 HS, Fantasmic dinner at Hollywood & Vine with Minnie & friends
4/24 MK, Pre opening BOG breakfast, Cinderella dinner at 1900 Park Fare
4/25 Chef Mickey's breakfast, Epcot
4/26 MK, Tony's for late lunch (hoping to get a porch seat for the parade)
4/27 up and out bright and early for departure

Just got a call from Olivia from WDW about the blog post. She apologized profusely about the postponement. I asked her if they would open the other nighttime stuff and she said, no it would all be together. I asked if it were possible it could come sooner and she said it was possible but they are expecting mid-May for the announcement, SO I asked if she got any information that it would happen sooner, would she call me and let me know and she said she would make a note to do that if something happened sooner.

I was thinking about that too, as well as maybe SeaWorld, or Typhoon Lagoon or the beach. I wanted to head to Universal for the day, but more than $400 Canadian for two people for a 1-day park to park is a little steep lol
Ouch. Definitely. No can do!

But will you have a vehicle? Because even if you don't go to NASA, you can go to Cocoa Beach. It's relatively free since all you're spending is gas money and you can pack a picnic lunch.
