Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

I was going to say, I am SO impressed at your vast Disney knowledge after only a few short months! I was so surprised when you said it was your first trip. Gold star for Paige, you've done your research lol. My fiance said to me this morning "I wonder how many people just show up at Disney with no plan and expect to do everything?" and I said "More than you think!" All of your hard work and research will pay off immensely.

Thank you so much! My family thinks I'm crazy, and is afraid I'm over planning-- but with Disney it seems that planning is necessary to even successfully "go with the flow."

Lol yep, little one is still ignoring all attempts to get him to pack his bags. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow to decide if we should wait a little longer or think about an induction. I have tried every single thing I can think of to get him to move, but nothing so far. DS3 was a week early and weighed 7lbs 15oz so now I'm terrified about this baby being huge and still having to get him out somehow!
He must be waiting for info on ROL:rotfl2: I know not funny. Good luck, hopefully today!

This is my plan, go to AK at opening on the 22nd and hope and pray they do the voucher thing...Disney cannot handle a line of hundreds of people for hours and hours in one spot. They are going to come up with something.
I'm a local so I don't mind spending a whole day just waiting I understand how frustrating it will be for people that do have plans for AK for that day and there's really no way to plan without all the info needed. The only thing I can say is sit down with your family and prioritize what you want to do...do you want to sacrifice time at AK in order to see RoL? or would you rather enjoy the park and then take a chance on RoL...as usual I imagine the last RoL show will be the easiest to get into but for people going opening night it might still mean waiting for at least 3 to 4 hours...these are just my opinions

Your opinions are very helpful to me! I agree that they will have to figure out some plan or it will be bedlam! That's why I'm glad I saw this so we can strategize beforehand like you said. That will be the end of our week, so by then, we will have already been to AK a couple of times, as well as MK. So for us, to go first thing, we'd be losing our "goodbye" to MK, although we will have been there a couple of times already so we'll have to decide our priority! Our plans still seems so scattered at this point - not how it usually is with less than 3 weeks out.

But again, I would love to see ROL on 4/22, but at this point given the situation we had managed our expectations to just enjoying the evening activities at AK - argh! At this point, not sure of our strategy for that day, lol!

I wonder how many shows they will schedule on 4/22. They could schedule 3 in order to accommodate as many people as possible, but I guess it depends on how the show is running. Sunset mid-April is around 8pm, so say the first show was at 8.30pm. The show is supposed to run 20-30 minutes, which means the first show would end around 9pm, and then you have to clear the theater and reset the show. Maybe a second show at 9.30pm, ending at 10pm. Would they put on a third show at 10.30pm? If there are technical difficulties happening during testing, I wonder if they'll want to push everything with 3 shows that first night.

All guesswork of course, I'm just so curious to see what they do.

We love to people watch too! And I know that often people complain about the buses, but we love meeting new people on the bus! There's nothing like an early morning bus ride with little kids talking about their plans for the day - love it!

Yes!!! I love the morning bus ride seeing the kids so excited for the day! And talking to people on the bus is so much fun especially if they are new to WDW.

My trip isn't coming until September (and we're thinking of postponing to November) but I sure have enjoyed following along with all of you! I can only imagine how stressful this would be if I were heading to wdw in April or May (even June and July are awfully close!). :grouphug:

So I checked this morning for FP and noticed a change. They rearranged the order of the listings available since yesterday and every other day I've checked. I got excited for just a second thinking this was the day. Maybe it's getting closer. :confused3

Entirely unrelated to your post, but wanted to quote it so you'd get the notification. My son swears he saw the exact same pic from your Avatar at our local Chuy's this week. Says it wasn't a similar pic, but that exact one. Could he be right?

The reality is that we all know that these other nighttime activities are filler to keep people busy while they wait for ROL. They do not really sound like stand alone attractions that would actively draw people to AK without ROL. Can you imagine the complaints that Disney would receive from people who made plans around AK extended hours (with the assumption that ROL would be showing) only to arrive at AK and find Nighttime Safari, Harambe Wildlife Parti and Discovery Island Carnivale but NO headliner.

As much as I want to see ROL and hopefully score a dining package I don't think of the rest as filler. Seeing I have kids in school AK is a daylight hours park for me as we go in summer. I can't wait to see everything after dusk so ROL or no ROL it will be new and exciting for us. Disney needs to get some later hours up for summer so I can finish planning. Rant over and thnx for the support:grouphug:
Not filler for us either. I am looking equally forward to Sunset Safari and RoL. I'm not sure which I am looking forward to more quite honestly.
Personally, I'd be fine if they started the other nighttime activities as soon as possible and add RoL when it's ready to go.

We have decided to just carry on with our reservations and enjoy the nighttime magic (even if we don't get into ROL - Even though I tried to drop it for SW, my husband is just so excited about it). The only thing I wish would happen between now and May 10th is that they go ahead and expand the hours. We have a full day planned, with us leaving at 6:30 (after dinner) but if we stay until the end I'm afraid it will be too much for DGDs 3 & 5. If they expand the hours, we can sleep in and go later so it won't be so hard on them.

I am looking forward to AK at night too (even without ROL). It will be really beautiful to see the Tree of Life at night! However, if ROL is not up and running while when we are there in late April/early May I will be changing our plans from 2 AK days to 1 AK day. Without ROL, it will be "one and done" for our trip.

Also for those going April 22nd it's the actual anniversary of AK, 18 years old, and Earth Day (not a coincidence) they will have giveaways and special activities at the oasis area (right after you enter the park) with a Jungle Book sand sculpture on display, they also do special things at Rafiki's Planet Watch, so regardless it'll be a good day to be at AK

Well, for us, if this is the way they plan to do it, we won't be part of that line...not worth it for us to spend hours and hours in line for a 20 minute show, no matter how good it is, especially since it's not going away any time soon. Next trip will be better, I hope, but of course by then, Pandora will be pulling the crowds away, and other parks (Hollywood, or whatever they decide to rename it to be) will be getting the PixarLand and Star Wars. So I'm sure I'm be camped out on other threads dedicated to supporting those with trips happening close to openings. :D

I agree - my kids love giving "advice" to newbies, especially kids! I just love hearing the kids talk about how they're going to meet a princes or be a jedi or go on a huge rollercoaster - it's just so cute! And my kids love to talk to people in the afternoons too to hear about what other people did and such.

That's what we were thinking - that there would be special anniversary stuff, but I hadn't seen anything so thanks for the tip - we may have to give up the MK hours...
