hey I would love the CR to become part of DVC - but until the wrecker ball tears down the old wing - it is just a rumor.

I would hope that WDW tears it down before 2006 - that is a long time for the management at CR to live with sub standard rooms - that need an update badly.....

I hope it is not a highrise - it would unbalance the wings - unless they are planning on adding more rooms on the south wing.

DVC is pretty good about not building higher than the existing resort - but with the CR that could mean either 2 or 3 floors - to 15 floors.

I really want this rumor to be true!!!!

While we love the location of SSR (yes, we really do! Honest!),

I do too, so I don't find it hard to believe. We stayed there in June and will be back in October. We go to DTD almost every night and it is nice to be so close to Home when are ready to leave.

CR for a DVC would be great and we would be in line to get points there. I think the DVC resort if it is built there should get it's own monorail station and cars ust for members and you have to show DVC id to get on how would she feel about that one now woudln't that just piss her off.

I don't understand why people would think that DVC is for those that are located in trailer parks, this timeshare costs as most trailers in the area I live in. From what I gather, just because you have the money to blow doe'nt mean you should, so why would you pay money every year to go on vacation when you can own some of the action. A smart person would not rent a house in a neighborhood that they knew they wanted to live in, they would buy it and make the investment. That is what DVC is!!!:thewave:

Even with the rumored CR DVC, the the planned EP resort, and the current SSR construction.... I still feel good about our VWL and BWL homes... CR would be nice to visit though.

This "class warfare" is an issue... and I think it's inderstandable that some would be concerned. DVC is an expensive proposition. If you look around, the only construction going on and the only plans being discussed are for DVC resorts (maybe there are some non-dvc resorts in the works... are there?). I would be concerned if Disney prices WDW resorts out of reach of an average family. They are most of WDW's market. If they lose this market, they'll be in trouble... and so will DVC.

Yes, I wouldn't see us adding points at CR, but wouldn't mind trying it as an option. You've got a point about resort building, the addition of the AKL was nice, but after that, there's certainly been a trend toward moderate level resorts and value level resorts unless considering DVC. Not too long ago I believe there was a venician themed resort rumored to be going in on the monorail line. I'm all for additional deluxe level resorts as well as refurbishment of those currently needing help.

Look at the last several resorts. AKL is the only deluxe resort, after that there's been value and moderate resorts. How about more deluxe resorts?

only half of Pop Century is opened - they will have to open the entire resort before they even think of building a new WDW resort.

DVC resort will sell - so the construction costs are zero to WDW. So they will build more DVC resorts. It is just when and where.

with the other timeshares still building in Orlando - I don't except DVC to not build - that would be silly.....

I really want Cont - but as I say until the wrecking ball puts an end to the wings - WDW could still fix this site. Of course with it being so close to the tower - it might be exploded - so the other building couldn't be damaged.

I really hope that it is both wings - not just the North wing - I know the north wing needs alot more work than the south wing - but DVC would really make something special with both wings....

I wonder what her opinion on "Johnny Foreigner's" such as me buying into the DVC is!

I wonder if she wants any tourists to come over at all! It sounds like she is a majority shareholder at CR! Next time I go to Chef Mickey's for breakfast, I must remember to ask if it's OK to go and get my entry visa.

To me, the garden wings at the CR are really nice, location-wise, but really, I don't think they are *That* different from wilderness lodge. An example of taking the monorail to epcot is the easiest to me. From the garden wing, you would go out of your building, in to the tower, on to the resort monorail, off at ttc, switch monorails to epoct. From wilderness lodge, you would go out of the building, on to the TTC bus, on to the epcot monorail. It doesn't seem that different to me. The monorail does a better job than the boats at moving a lot of people more quickly - so at park close it is nice to have the monorail rather than the boat. But even if you really just loved the monorail, it isn't THAT much different to take the boat to the CR and walk in to the main building than to walk from one of the wings to the building. The real joy of the contemporary is the tower, imho, and being able to just go downstairs and get on the monorail.

And I don't think it is the price of the points as much as how many points per night it would take. I wonder if there was a dvc at the garden wings if it would take the same points as wlv/bcv, or if they would come out with a new schedule of points (like they did with SSR between OKW and BWV/BCV/WLV). I do think dues might be higher if you had to pay part of the monorail and the boat and the busses.

My parents, sister and I stayed in one of the wings of the CR on our family trip to WDW in the early '80's. I think that our room number was 6110 (Mom made us memorize that in case we got lost ) Anyways, the CR couldn't have been very old at that point, but that wing room was SO dated even then, LOL! On a recent trip to WDW, DH and I cut through one of the wings on our way to the tower for dinner. I swear, it looked the same as when we stayed there in the '80's! I hope that they do level the wings at some point, because they are just not up to the level of most Disney resorts IMHO.

the Contemporary was the first WDW resort....It opened on opening day - I think the Polyn was a couple of months behind it...

so for us old WDW fans - it is the WDW resort. I don't like the architecture as much as most of the other WDW resort = but still it was the first!!!!

besides you can walk to the MK from it.....no other resort has this feature.....

I agree, the contemporary isn't just the tomorrowland resort, it is the WDW-themed hotel.
