Rumor ToT/Guardians overlay to be announced at ComicCon?

Is this the first time they've referred to it as an 'overlay,' or have I just not been paying attention? It could easily be a temporary, promotional thing.

I don't believe that this is even remotely true. Disney does not cross their businesses like that. You would never see any announcement about a Marvel TV show at a Marvel movie panel, or vice versa. And really, no studio does that at Comic Con. (Except for Lucasfilm did that Star Wars video games in the years between movies, sometimes. And people hated those panels.) Disney doesn't need to make a "major" announcement like this at a convention. They announce park changes themselves all the time without having a big reveal. 99% of the people in the Marvel movie panel will not care about Disney Parks, it would land with a thud.

Although I agree they're unlikely to announce something like this at Comic Con, I disagree that 99% of the people wouldn't care. A lot of people who go to those conventions are big Disney (and other Theme park) fans. I've never been to one, but I know several friends who go regularly and some even take their kids. They all also enjoy Disneyland.

They revealed Star Wars Land in the Disney Studios panel last year at D23, not at the Disney Parks Panel... so it's totally possible. Especially with how popular SSDC is getting.

I've been to Comic Con 10+ times. The Disney contingent is pretty small. And the people who go to the parks or are interest in park news are a fraction of the fan base. Any park news in a panel for a comic book movie would lead to more complaints that panel time is being watsed than cheers. Because no one is going to that panel hoping to hear anything about Disneyland.

I can pretty much guarantee that Marvel is going to preview Guardians 2 this weekend in the Marvel panel. What would be a better way to announce it during one of the most popular panels in which it's directly associated with? Why not have them announce it to fans of Guardians of the Galaxy/Marvel rather than the park enthusiasts who have already loudly disagreed with this decision?

With the rumors that ToT is going down this year and scheduled to open mid next year, there isn't another event for them to announce it. It would be already open during D23 2017.

It ironic that the moderator of the Rumor board is posting rumors on a Trip Planning board.
Fortunately, the ignore feature works quite well on DIS -- threads started by ignored users do not appear.

I'm at the panel, so I thought that I'd share that this was announced. They showed about 30 seconds of a blooper against a green screen and a flash of the exterior. There was some applause. It was nothing compared to the reactions for Black Panther, Dr Strange, Spider-Man or Captain Marvel. No other studio made any reference to other business units. I guess Disney rules with an iron fist.

Disney does what Disney wants.

What exactly was announced? That TOT is going to become GOTG?

They said they had something to announce about an iconic ride at DCA. They showed the footage, a logo that said Mission:Breakout 2017 and the concept art. They didn't say anything else, only the footage. There was a press release sent last week with a time that blog were allowed to post. I imagine more details will be out soon.

They also didn't say whether or not it was an overlay or concept change.

Edited to add: I forgot, they did actually say Benico del Toro would be in it right after they took the image off the screen.

Wow. All the rumors were true. I love TOT. This just plain sucks. Disney needs to remove it's head from its rear end.

I'm with you on that! I'll ride it if others in our group want to, but if it's up to me I won't even bother after the change. I loved the entire package of the theming plus the ride.

Lol of all the attractions that did not need a “comically high-energy, rocking new adventure”..I don’t get it I don’t understand it. I will still go to the parks and will ride this new version or whatever its going to be, and I will probably even love it too. I will miss ToT as most of you will too. As my DD11 would say, “this is dumb and stupid” Lol.
