Rumor of Disney in Texas

It wouldn't surprise me if they closed Disneyland Hong Kong once that park opens. That would be a shame. We wanted to get out there once the kids were grown.

That won't happen.

First, they're two completely different markets, more different than California is to Florida, because Hong Kong still does not completely identify itself with mainland China, and it's clientele probably suited more toward locals and tourists who are visiting HK anyway (like I will be this weekend )

Second, Disney wouldn't do it, just to save face. If you notice in history that Disney will practically never ever admit defeat or failure, they'll keep changing things until they start to be at least a little bit successful (See EuroDisney when it first opened/DCA right now). Ok, Eisner did admit that EuroDisney, now DisneylandParis was a failure, but they've never even hinted at closing it.

The only rumor that I have heard regarding Disney and north Texas is that there is a new "Indoor Ski Resort" in the planning that is to be built north of Fort Worth around the Texas Motor Speedway area.....
yes you read right - Indoor skiing, indoor man-made snow in texas...

That is exciting! We live north of that area near Denton. I'll have to look into it. There was a special on tv last year about the indoor ski park they built in Dubai. Yes, a snow ski park in the desert. It looked amazing. I wonder if they'll build something like that here?!?!?!?!

After careful consideration, the company has decided to shift its plans for a winter-themed entertainment destination from Dallas to Fort Worth, Texas. Bearfire Resorts, LLC executives feel they have found an ideal location in a large piece of property situated midway between the Dallas and Fort Worth airports.

Along with the move comes an important change in the entertainment concept. Formerly envisioned as a theme park using the working name “Coolzone Winterplex,” the new project will be known as the “Bearfire Resort” and will feature ski slopes spread over a total ski-able area of an unbelievable 650,000 square feet. Additionally, Bearfire Resort will include a 600-room hotel, a convention center, and a world-class spa at the base of the ski mountain.

Disney does buy land in different parts of the country, but doesn't mean they are going to build on it.... usually like the others said its for investments or sell off later.

Yes, I keep reading on DISboards forums that Disney buys and sells land as investments.

However, I'd like to see some evidence that The Walt Disney Company (or a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company) was actually been involved in a large real estate transaction anywhere in the United States (except at WDW or for the Ko Olina resort) in the past 5 or 10 years.

Can anyone post a link to a newspaper article? How about to an SEC filing?

Before someone says that Disney buys, holds, and eventually sells real estate in secret (and cites the purchase of the land in Florida in the 1960s as an example), allow me to point out that a publicly held corporation can not operate that way these days. The financial laws of the post-Enron environment impose strict disclosure requirements.

And once deeds are recorded, that's public record too.

I'm not saying Disney doesn't buy and sell property. I'm just saying that if Disney does so, someone should be able to provide specifics.

Disney does not own the land or has nothing to do with the prodject, but those that help develop new attractions and hotels for disney has been brought on to the prodject to build and design this resort.

That ski resort is cool! We moved to Texas from Colorado and now I can have the best of both worlds! Does anyone know when it slated to open?

Yea the bearfire in suppose to happen, but with companys not able to get financing its going to be tough.
