played for 2 teams who (at the time) had the longest WS winless streaks and cost the BoSox their chance to win one in '86. I guess since the Sox have won a couple recently they can forgive Buckner now.

There were some other istakes that game, that's for sure, and Buckner is one of the reasons the Sox were in that WS.
I have to admit though that it's still painful for me to watch the Buckner play...It was like a punch in the stomach then and it's still hard for me to watch... I was a kid then and it was devistating.

Any idea who might be throwing out the first pitch on Thursday? DH grew up in a Boston suburb, and on Thursday is taking DS11 to Fenway for the first time. I don't know which of them is more thrilled?

BTW, I was also a kid when Bill Buckner played. I still remember that play, and neither DH nor I has forgiven him...

But Bill Buckner makes more sense. He's finally vindicated. After he was basically run out of the city, it would be nice to have him come back.

I was only 3 in 1986, and I can still remember the sound of my father, mother, grandfather and uncle screaming. It woke me out of a sound sleep.

The Patriots was a whole mess of stupid mistakes. There's no one person to pin it on.
