Excited there, skip?
I agree that the trailers were very well done. I'm fascinated by the story arc...I can't wait to see what they've done with it.
But I gotta say...I've been wrong before.
There's a 10 minute clip on
YouTube - I think it's from the people vs George Lucas...describing what went wrong with the phantom menace...and it's like the Rosetta Stone of the entire franchise as it stands...all the producers staring at each other looking puzzled, Lucas making 100% false predictions during production and bumbling the directing, and the reaction after the screening of the rough cut that leads to a complaint session. And George basically saying "well...it's awful, but it's too late to do anything about it...we can't cut anything"
Almost a total disregard for the fandom and a lack of pride in the work.
It would be like Disney ordering purple lederhosen for the mickeys...but sending them out into the parks nonetheless because "we paid cash and can't get our money back".
Jj Abrams is the most important man in Hollywood right now by a nautical mile...period. What a burden to bare - an awesome one - but still.
I do worry about some of the things in his two Star Trek movies - it got too popcorny - and the dead ends of the lost series. I also think that it's puzzling that they already have completely different crews for 8 and 9...that seems like an odd play up front - but could turn out to be genius if you get new energy/vigor each time.
Lots of questions...very exciting. But not on a 7 year old level like 1999.
I already have the plot roughed out in my head and I can't wait to see if I'm close/got any of it right.
There's a definite nostalgia approach that we've scene in the trailers and promotional material to this point. That's the right call - as in if they bring all of us old fuddies who are aware of what the original feeling was back into this thing - the younger generation will follow along and be there. The mistake of the prequels.
I've watched the trailer probably 15 times so far...if only for the soundtrack. Johnny W is on - as always...the new arrangement of Yoda's theme as the falcon dips and dives is nerve tingling...happy, somber, and almost elegant at the same time.
Let's just get to this...hopefully it's a new Genesis.
And build me a decent damn ride in the park...while you're at it!!!
