Rumor: Direct Minimum for DVC Purchase Increasing to 150 Points

You can get a week for under 125 for all or a big part of the year in a studio at
SSR
AKV
BLT
BCV
BWV
BRV
CCV
HHI
OKW
VB

And at some times of year at VGF, PVB, and RIV.

Well except none of those are in active sales and are only a literal week not a "vacation week" which to me is Friday to Sunday (9 nights/10 days).

That being said for 7 days at the past 5 resorts at WDW:
RIV: No Preferred / Standard for 3 lowest booking periods (only accounts for 30% of rooms)
VGF: No Lake / Standard only for (Jan, Sept, 2 weeks in Dec)
POLY: No Lake / Standard only for (Jan, Sept, 2 weeks in Dec)
BLT: No Theme / Lake only for (early Sept) / Standard much of the year
CCV: Which has serious issues for studios.... you can book most of the year

So yes at old resorts that are not in active sales you might get 7 nights but why would current sales requirements map to old resorts not being actively sold and make up a subset of sales of new contracts?

Also remember outside of POLY a majority of rooms are not studios. VGF will be changing but you can't book much there with 125 points.

Wait. The difference between the gold pass and regular non AP is $400? I thought it was like $275 or something close to that.

With the last increase, the difference became about $400/person. That is why depending on family size, those AP savings can make up the difference from resale pretty quickly.

When we added on at RIV direct with my adult kids, we now have 9 people eligible for the APs when they return. If that savings remains the same, that could be $3600 per year. After 3 years, it pays the difference to what it cost us to go from 150 points at BWV to 175 at RIV.

Yup, if you don’t live in Florida the cheapest pass you can buy is Platinum which is over $1k. Made me so happy that they let me buy my DVC gold pass to replace my premier pass.

It's only been that high for a very short period of time, and honestly forecasting that sort of savings out into the future isn't something I would be comfortable doing.

Fair point re resorts in active sales. The week is not a vacation week doesn’t make much sense to me but I’ll give you the other one :)

Welp they just need to start selling APs again.

Seriously.

Or just make an official announcement that they WILL return. I don't even need more points unless annual passes exist.

WDW tickets are front heavy and we are at a time when we can only get 4-6 days in at WDW at a time. I'm getting maybe MAYBE 11 days over 2 trips - probably only 10. If I don't have an annual pass, I'm going back to every other year trips, because tickets are just ridiculous.

I got a last minute phone call from my DVC guide last night at 6 pm to ask me one final time if I wanted to add on 125 points before the raise to 150 points today.
(I own 50 points resale and she was speaking to me before about adding on 25 points direct.)
She also told me she had no idea the points would be raised since she was on vacation the last week.
I think this is interesting if true about raising the points so quickly without letting their own sales employees know until the week of...

Um, that's interesting. Doesn't it usually say to qualify for member benefits?

Not that I remember. It usually says "obtain" which is why previous people are grandfathered in. So if you obtained your Blue card when the limit was 125 (or lower), they can't take it away from you.

The new minimum is now 150 points. Why are these point increases happening so fast? I see more people buy resale than direct or maybe it is my perspective

I don’t remember it saying to obtain a membership card before, just membership benefits. That implies resale will not be getting even a white card now. I may be remembering or interpreting wrong.
