Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

From Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN:
The NBA has a board of governors call set for Friday, which is expected to provide additional details for teams on a timetable and plan to proceed with the season. Teams are expecting the league to instruct them to start recalling players to their team’s markets around June 1, sources told ESPN.

That might be what the announcement from Disney is on Friday.

Interesting ..

Maybe Disney has been seeing that it just may not be WORTH opening up until they can operate at "normal". A lot of people can't make it down there (flights) or don't want to make it down there (still worried about virus) .. so maybe they see it is just better off writing off the summer and be able to open in the fall .. full capacity .. no masks .. no temp checks .. all attractions open . .some social distancing .. etc.

I mean a lot of businesses are putting a LOT of money into running "modified" and that affects the bottom line just as much as not being open. Maybe Disney just feels that they can't operate all the parks and resorts at a modified capacity. It's one thing to put a bunch of social distancing stickers and require masks and temp checks at Universal (that has ONE main entrance) compared to Disney having 4 parks, with multiple ways to enter, public transportation and resorts. Maybe .. just maybe .. they don't want to incur the costs to open "modified" when they feel (and hope) that all this may be temporary?

Maybe they are geared up to just stay closed for most of the summer (and a lot of signs are pointing to that).

The question is now .. will Disney do anything for all the guests whose vacations have been canceled once or twice? Or do they even need to? Will demand be so pent up that just opening up whenever they do will be good enough?
"Normal" will not suddenly arrive at the end of the summer or this Fall. It's going to be a while until "normal" returns. We are nowhere near low enough cases that we don't have to worry about transmission and we will not have an approved vaccine and approved treatments for a while. It's not like these conditions will magically appear within the next few months. Disney cannot afford to remain closed until "normal" returns. Modifications is and will be the name of the game.

Some cities have their sports facilities opening back up today for teams, including the Brooklyn Nets.

Two players on the Cavs that I follow on social media have posted along the lines of ‘just a waiting game now’ in the past few days.

So, something is happening sooner than later.

Yeah, saw that posted on wdwmagic. But the rumor is they'll announce an opening date, not a deal with the NBA. I would think that official announcement would wait until it's actually approved by all the entities of the NBA. I still hold out hope for something to happen tomorrow...always the optimist.:)

I totally agree. There's probably going to be no real operational difference between what Disney would need to do to open in July versus what they would need to do to open in September or October. Personally, I don't think opening with restrictions or modified experiences is what is holding them back -- there's something else.

Did I miss something? Disney is supposed to make an announcement?

They certainly have a plan. It's ignorant to think otherwise. They're not publicizing the plan, which is frustrating.

If they had a plan, folks would know what reservations are still good. This tells me they have no clue and are at best going to copy and paste Universal’s plan after seeing what happens when they open on the 5th.

Kinda crappy if that post about Disney attempting to block Universal is true.
It is, but I 100% believe it. Honestly, why from a business standpoint would they not if they were bound and determined to not open until later...what's surprising is that it seems their ego was big enough to think they actually had a decent chance of telling the state what to allow etc.

ore I had a child I never went to M&G. Now I'm mentally preparing for a park without them

We didn't know what Universal's plan was until 6 days ago. Do you think that materialized out of thin air?

One thing I am certain of is that we won't have any advance warning when Disney is going to present their plan.
They certainly have been able to keep things pretty tight to their vests. I'll be surprised, but I've been surprised many times over the past few months.
