Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

I would think a LOT of people would postpone their trips with no pools.

We should make a little poll of like the Top 5 things that, if "modified", would cause you to cancel or postpone your trip. (And remember this is just people's opinion's - this is how people feel - this simply means that they don't find value in WDW as a vacation destination if some things are changed - (just not worth the time/money) - no judging needed:

For me, I think I would consider postponing my trip if (in this order, where #1 is the one I would most consider postponing my trip if it was like that):

1 - No M&Gs at all (have little kids they love them and we love the photos)
2 - No pool access at all (it's hot down there. Taking a day off to splash in the highly themed pools is a big part of the value of staying at a disney resort)
3 - No indoor theatres (the parks have a lot of fun indoor theater shows that are family friendly for families with young kids)
4 - No Disney transportation - or heavily modified - (not sure how they would have resorts open without buses, but I could see it being really inconvenient if certain transportation wasn't running or they made buses run half empty)
5 - Required masks outside - (I am not trying to start the debate, I am just saying personally, I would find it too uncomfortable for me and the kids, so maybe just wait until they are not required).

Again . .this is from the perspective of someone who would come down for a 4-5 day vacation, and things things would change based on family preferences.

What about you?

We are booked for July 14, and I would cancel quicker than quick if pools are closed

I am not thrilled at the prospect of masks ( DD9 on spectrum a sensory issues) but we could deal with them

No fireworks would be deal breaker
No indoor shows/seating
No TS dining
No pools

Long waits for busses due to social distancing

Honestly, each day I wonder why Disney is even planning on opening at 25-50% capacity, and we have a trip booked - and live in NYC - and we really want to go ! However, 25-50% of the experience at 100% of the price doesn't make sense
I wouldn't want to go bowling with 5 pins on the lane either !

Based on the responses . .i think Disney is constantly evaluating those "Deal breakers" for families. They must realize that significant changes will just keep a lot of the out-of-state guests away, but they may be okay with that for a while until we are sure how the virus will trend over the summer.

Even though a lot of people are itching to go back to the Magic, it may be a while before people feel they WANT to. Disney may struggle this summer (and that's okay -- since they probably want to have limited capacity and just not lose money every day for not being open at all).

Again .. for me .. i doubt any ONE thing being closed would make my Disney experience miserable, but for me it comes down to value for money. It will just bother me to be paying the SAME for potentially a LOT less.

I think they want to keep a lot of people away. Have you read articles about the future of airline travel? They’re far more strict compared to the rules that Disney will probably have in their parks. And airline rates are expected to go up a lot to provide for social distancing on the plane. I’m hearing up to a 50% increase in airfare.

If Disney was going to go to require clear bags they would have already done it already when all the major league sports arenas moved to it. That is much much more of a terrorism security tactic than a health issue.

So then it would be possible to keep pre-checked resort guests separate from day guests driving in, right? I am just trying to think logistics here, to make the process as efficient as possible while minimizing the risk to everyone. It’s definitely going to be different.

I think checks at resorts before boarding bus-boats-skyliner-monorails is a good idea, it will lessen the amount of people waiting to go through bag check directly at the parks, it will also lessen the amount of people waiting for their temp checks
At Citywalk the day it opened I was there at 4pm (opening time) and there was a line that took about 3 min to get through for the temp check, that was with citywalk being completely empty, there was not a lot of people, if the parks would´ve been opened and it was morning that line easily can be 10+ mins long, by scattering the temp checks around it would help with the queueing

I don't love clear bags, but I could easily modify that requirement to work for me.

I would likely pack a lightweight small rolled up hand towel, t-shirt, reusable shopping bag, etc., that I could use to hide my other items after I went through security. I don't think it's necessary to advertise what we're carrying around--whether it be electronics, prescription medications, or stuff that might be considered sensitive to some member of the family (perhaps certain medications, personal hygiene items, incontinence items, etc.). So by simply lining the inside of the bag with that one fabric item, everyone can be happy.

They do bag checks for the boats at Universal. It worked for me.

At that point, it probably becomes a staffing issue, where the cost/benefit does not make sense.

which totally negates the reason for the clear bag policy and shows why it is silly

in the proposals Texas submitted they had clear bags reccomended so security didn’t have to open them but not a requirement. So basically if you don’t want your bag searched use a clear bag.

And not like ziplocks. Go search stadium clear bags. Lots are made these days since most sporting venues require them.

Hell no am I buying a clear purse ziplocs for me and wipe them down after.

(also, Disney will search your clear bag to make sure you aren’t hiding anything wrapped in anything else if there is any substance to your bag whatsoever...)

The temperature checks would likely be a deal-breaker for us. I have suffered with allergies my entire life. I get really miserable sometimes. But I never ran a fever, and never even heard that was possible until my first child was born. Turns out both my kids, and DH, and a host of other folks, actually run low fevers as a symptom of seasonal allergies. I had no idea. And we already dealt with the school in regard to this, because we are supposed to keep our kid home from school if they have a temp. of 100 or more, and my one son, in particular was missing a day here and there pretty regularly because he'd have this useless low fever. He would not be sick. He'd run all over the house playing like it was a bonus Saturday in life. And it was annoying. So I had a discussion with the school and they said to have the doctor send something in to school and to send him if he had no other symptoms.

So I'm not bringing my family to WDW, during a time of year when we tend to have heavier allergy symptoms, only to be turned away because my kid is running an allergy temp. again. Usually they run something low enough not to be an issue, but occasionally it's a bit higher and I wouldn't want to stress over that.

yeah definitely something to think about, they will have to allocate CM for the temp checks so instead of maybe 10 being at MK, they could spread them out. Also if the temp check does not have to be conducted by a medical professional the bus drivers could do it with a manager of each hotel being present (not THE manager but someone from the manager on duty or some kind of upper position person in each resort)

What about you?

Our trip was supposed to be our second trip as a family, and the first trip our youngest will actually remember as she was 1 the first time we went. It is technically her celebration of starting Kindergarten in the Fall. Because of that my top 5 would be.

1) Masks being required ~ Totally understand why this is necessary and do not disagree with them being needed, but I want to see the joy in my kids faces, and I don't want them to have their Disney memories be covered in masks. Masks might be part of their normal for awhile in "real life," but I don't want it to be a part of their magical Disney trip. We will simply wait until they are (hopefully) not required anymore.
2) M&G's being eliminated or significantly altered ~ The kids are at the M&G age and that is a huge part of our trip.
3) No Fireworks, parades, or night shows ~ Easily one of our favorite parts of Disney
4) No TS or Character Dining in particular ~ Same reason as M&G's
5) No Pools ~ Florida summer, enough said.

Sounds like a reasonable choice for you and your family. I wish other people were this understanding that Summer 2020 in WDW just won't be everyone's cup of tea.

I agree. Although I would likely use one of those ponchos that comes folded up onto a tiny little square, so it would be easily recognizable as a poncho while going through security, but which could be opened up to hide the interior of the bag once inside the park.

I have done this for the last four years (started with bringing a diaper bag), it was fast and efficient until the past year or so. Some of the security started opening the clear ziplock bags and rummaging around. So it’s definitely not the answer.

I wonder if after a while they could go to masks only in indoor spaces. So much info has come out that outdoors in the heat isn't as risky. Does Disney plan to open the pools? My community isn't opening the pools on memorial day. They said maybe later in the summer.

Unknown on pools.

CDC and FL have given clearance for it. Concern social distancing would be hard but with less capacity at the resorts pools should be less busy.

We pack items inside of ziplocs, too, but have never had anyone open them. We tend to use several ziplocs, so they each have very few items in them and we store like items together. So one bag is just medicine and one bag is just snacks, etc.

Some items, such as my eye drops or inhalers, I really don't want people touching as they are going to be used in/near my eyes or mouth, and these days, I would think security members wouldn't want to touch something that's been in my mouth, either!

I don't actually have a top 5, there's only a couple of things that would stop us from going at all.

1) All parks (with the exception of Epcot have to be open)
2) Resort guests have to have access to the parks similar to the current phased closing system.

Ours is a long trip though and there are things that would cause us to shorten the trip considerably.
1) No fireworks
2) No shows

Masks and temperature checks would have 0 affect on our decision.

Those are just the absolutes, there are probably others that would make us think twice about shortening the trip, but those are the must haves. I suspect our trip is going to be cut back to just our stay at the Riviera. The end of our stay is at CL and that's a completely different subject as to how that will change, so most likely that's going to get cut regardless. I do have a separate reservation to replace that by continuing our Riviera stay, but doesn't look good for our original 13 day stay. I have a ridiculous number of reservations to hedge my bets.
