Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

My deal breakers are:
1) No Disney transportation - definitely a deal breaker
2) No pools - definitely a deal breaker
3) Masks - maybe a deal breaker. Wearing a mask in the summer sounds like torture. Thankfully my 2 year old is exempt but I have a 4 year old also and I can foresee a problem with him... and us!
4) No characters - maybe a deal breaker. We don't need to touch them but we at least want to see them
5) No table service - definitely a deal breaker
6) Limited indoor attractions and shows - this is probably the biggest problem. I can do without fireworks and parades but if many rides and shows are closed... well, I'm getting ZERO price reduction to account for the limited offering so it begins to feel not worth it.
7) 14 day quarantine is still in place. We are from NJ.

Our trip was supposed to be our second trip as a family, and the first trip our youngest will actually remember as she was 1 the first time we went. It is technically her celebration of starting Kindergarten in the Fall. Because of that my top 5 would be.

1) Masks being required ~ Totally understand why this is necessary and do not disagree with them being needed, but I want to see the joy in my kids faces, and I don't want them to have their Disney memories be covered in masks. Masks might be part of their normal for awhile in "real life," but I don't want it to be a part of their magical Disney trip. We will simply wait until they are (hopefully) not required anymore.
2) M&G's being eliminated or significantly altered ~ The kids are at the M&G age and that is a huge part of our trip.
3) No Fireworks, parades, or night shows ~ Easily one of our favorite parts of Disney
4) No TS or Character Dining in particular ~ Same reason as M&G's
5) No Pools ~ Florida summer, enough said.

1) With things trending as they have been, a mask will only be recommended in a few months after open, CDC will change guidance
2) Get that one, M&G with face characters will be significantly reduced, with costumed ones, you probably won't be able to touch and hug
3) They will have those in some form at the opening, they have been experimenting in Shanghai, there will be a solution there
4) They will have Table Service and character dining, they had that in Shanghai a month or so before the parks opened.
5) Will be open for sure

With kids that age, I wouldn't go either, especially until the mask is not required. Probably even wait till after most people stop wearing for the reasons you mentioned. I do think that will be sooner than later, late summer and fall at the latest.

Do you think all indoor shows will be cancelled or will they just space out parties? I'm hoping for the latter. I don't know how I feel about a Disney trip without the Country Bears and much of HS is indoor shows. The rumors of the permanent closure of the Voyage of the LM have me worried. I like that show!
I was sad about Voyage of the LM!

I think they’ll space people out in the non-live entertainment shows and require masks on entry. Many of the shows aren’t generally filled to capacity anyway and the chance to cool down in the FL heat is important to many. (I’m of the opinion they won’t badger folks walking around outside in the park to put their mask back on so I think it will be necessary to tell folks as they enter indoor shows like that, that masks are required.)

I think live plays will come after they get some more operating cash.

Unknown on pools.

CDC and FL have given clearance for it. Concern social distancing would be hard but with less capacity at the resorts pools should be less busy.

I know the county next to me closed all pools to open this summer. My city pool is private for the city so they don't get huge crowds but they are closed indefinitely bc of bathroom/changing room and lifeguard safety. I guess not knowing how to do rescue with social distancing. I was just wondering how Disney was handling it. I think swimming would be one of the safer outdoor activities. Hopefully Disney can lead the way on how to open pools. I really want my community pool this summer.

Dang. Some of their security are ridiculous tbh... Oh well. Guess I’ll just make sure everything in the purse is wipable!
That's the main problem at Disney is their inconsistencies in policies, in the same department
The same day I have gone to different parks, one security asks me to take out the gimbal from my bag, ask if it's a selfie stick, make me actually pull on it to make sure it isn't, ask me to open my little wallet thats inside my purse, open all zippers inside my bag and wallet
Same day I go to another park, security barely looks inside my bag waves me through
Same day I'm streaming and I'm stopped by a security inside the park, "you can't use a selfie stick in here" I proceed to tell them it's not a selfie stick...same day same park other security people watch me stream and don't bat an eye
That same inconsistency will be the problem with any new guidelines, and I pray that they all have their act together and unite with the same language and policies or else it'll be a real problem, when one CM says yes but the other says no

I’m less Disney related deal breakers and more pandemic based ones.

The one that goes without saying is the border related issues as a non US citizen. Without that I don’t even have the option. Will also NOT travel if travel health insurance won’t cover COVID-19 related expenses in the US. Won’t travel with a quarantine period in effect when we return. And lastly and probably most importantly, no travel for me until the places I want to go to are further down their curve. I will do my best to not contribute to an outbreak here as well as keeping my family as safe as I reasonably can. A vaccine or reliable treatment would likely change that but I am not banking on them.

Once those are better, I think there’s a good chance the masks are gone from Disney anyways, because I have no desire to have my kids wear them all day in parks (without kids I could probably be swayed under the right circumstances).

If Disney was going to go to require clear bags they would have already done it already when all the major league sports arenas moved to it. That is much much more of a terrorism security tactic than a health issue.
Concur. They must have already done the analysis on it and determined they would rummage them just as they do normal bags so why bother.

I agree the inconsistency is crazy, but it also is an element of security strategy, kinda a flex security. Balances security with customer satisfaction ("hey I got waved through, that was a treat"), it is a strategy a lot of large venues take, along with other techniques, profiling, and random checks.

That said most of the inconsistency is also bad training or an employee just wanting to get through thier shift ;)

Off topic, I am a social worker & am amazed at how many ppl suddenly are advocates for the safety & health of their fellow man/woman. I don’t recall all this concern & advocacy for others when I was working with the abused, the mentally ill, the homeless, etc. Now all of a sudden everyone is a hero b/c they wear a mask. I suspect all of this new found concern has more to do with the fact that ppl are now more concerned about how it will affect them or their loved ones.
That's human nature. With regard to a global pandemic, there aren't many people out there who aren't in a vulnerable group themselves or who don't love someone who is in a vulnerable group. And when "vulnerable group" includes anyone with a BMI over 30, that is a LOT of people, especially in America.

it gets really old when you get checked at bag check (where they are supposed to check everything) and are inside the park and get stopped because they think you brought something in that isn't allowed.

The pools being closed might be a deal breaker for us since we are staying at BCV. Galaxy's Edge being closed might be as well. Everything else I do not mind. Mask being worn outside I would not be happy about but might be willing to try it.

Everyone's deal breakers are so interesting to me. We have little kids but also APs, so I don't need the once in a life time things - don't care about TS or meet and greets or parades/fireworks, etc.

The only thing that would be a deal breaker for me is if I read what safety precautions Disney says they need to keep everyone safe (whatever they are) but then reviews come back from people saying that those precautions aren't being followed or enforced. I want to have confidence that once the requirements come out, I can make a safety decision based on those requirements - and not have to make safety decisions for our family without an actual understanding of what is REALLY happening in the parks.

LOL We had this issue back when my kids were borderline with the height requirement. I would come back from getting coffee or whatever and my husband would say "they just let us ALL on Rock and Roller Coaster!" So we would try it again, and nope. Then crying kids + me irritated with my husband for even trying with a borderline kid, etc.

I would think a LOT of people would postpone their trips with no pools.

We should make a little poll of like the Top 5 things that, if "modified", would cause you to cancel or postpone your trip. (And remember this is just people's opinion's - this is how people feel - this simply means that they don't find value in WDW as a vacation destination if some things are changed - (just not worth the time/money) - no judging needed:

For me, I think I would consider postponing my trip if (in this order, where #1 is the one I would most consider postponing my trip if it was like that):

1 - No M&Gs at all (have little kids they love them and we love the photos)
2 - No pool access at all (it's hot down there. Taking a day off to splash in the highly themed pools is a big part of the value of staying at a disney resort)
3 - No indoor theatres (the parks have a lot of fun indoor theater shows that are family friendly for families with young kids)
4 - No Disney transportation - or heavily modified - (not sure how they would have resorts open without buses, but I could see it being really inconvenient if certain transportation wasn't running or they made buses run half empty)
5 - Required masks outside - (I am not trying to start the debate, I am just saying personally, I would find it too uncomfortable for me and the kids, so maybe just wait until they are not required).

Again . .this is from the perspective of someone who would come down for a 4-5 day vacation, and things things would change based on family preferences.

What about you?

To me it isn't any one thing but would need to be a combination of things. Like, if masks were required but overall I would be able to get the "full" Disney parks experience then I would be fine with it (or at least deal with it)

But if it was masks AND no pols AND no M&Gs AND a significant # of rides were not running, etc - that is what would cause me to cancel

Sounds like a reasonable choice for you and your family. I wish other people were this understanding that Summer 2020 in WDW just won't be everyone's cup of tea.
We've planned for 2.5 years for our Summer 2020 trip. It won't be the end of the world if we have to wait for next summer. :) We'd rather wait a bit more if we think it means we'll enjoy the trip more. :)

It will, however, probably the most changed trip we'll ever take, as the further out you start planning something the more times you seem to change it! Never thought we'd be changing it due to pandemic related things, though! :D

I have a clear crossbody bag that I bought for concerts.. it’s a big enough bag for essentials but not so big that it’s clumsy. Comes in a few trim colours. i usually keep a small scarf tied to the handle that i line the bag with once i’ve cleared security 😊

Amazon has a ton of choices that are more purse like then backpack...

Margaritaville reopened and their pools are open, not saying this is what Disney will do
So it seems employees Wear masks guests don’t... I’ll admit I did price out a room there In case things are not up and running at Disney but haven’t yet, and tbh would most likely just rebook Disney farther down the line.
