I love the fact that people are saying they cant require you to wear a face covering.......try getting into the park and or anywhere in this country with no shoes or shirt on...or better yet take them off when youre in the park next time.....those are both public health issues......no difference here .......change my mind

There was nothing insensitive in my post at all. I am not going to WDW so I did not really need you to tell me not to. If you are comfortable in the current environment taking your child to WDW good luck to you and have fun. I made no inference at all regarding disabled children

I actually think you are being rather insensitive in downplaying the virus. Many close to me have been affected, some in the worst possible way, and might I add pretty much ALL of them followed guidelines and did what they were supposed to. One died without ever leaving their house It’s people who reduce this to not being a difficult public health situation that give me the impression that there is little chance we will not experience a relapse. But enjoy your vacation
I’m not going. And everyone that can follow the guidelines shouldZ. And I’m not saying it’s not serious. I’m just saying no amount of rules can reduce the risk to 0. So anyone willing to go has to be ok with that fact and the chance they may get it. But there are legitimate reasons that all the rules are not one size fits all.

I am afraid too many people think these rules will Remove the risk and when they see someone not following rules or not wearing mask for a legitimate reason then they will flip out because they are so scared of the virus. People that scared should not go. My comment is whenever Disney opens and until there is a treatment or vaccine every person that goes has to be ok with coming Back with the virus. That is the risk you are taking.

our pools are opening soon in SC but not sure that’s relevant..

Deni mentioned on the show that they are making everyone get out of the pools every couple of hours to clean them. I don't know which pools, but I am guessing any community pool that is open in her area right now.

Yeah, I don't know. I mean, everything is so strict in the park but the pool area would be ok? Perhaps. Do kids just leave the masks on the side of the pool? Do they leave them on chairs? Do guests get to take them off once you get to the gates of the pool area? I don't know, should be interesting for sure.

I've mostly lurked on these boards for years, but I want to second this. Disney can make you wear shirts, they can make you wear shoes, they can prohibit adults from wearing costumes.... For those who don't think that Disney can't make new requirements and stick to them, I can promise you that on September 10, 2001, no one thought that Disney would have the right to go through everyone's bag on entry. Now, it's not just bag checks, but metal detectors too. If you don't want your privacy invaded, you either don't go to Disney, or don't take a bag. Disney will do what it needs to do to keep its workers safe and to make its guests feel safe. If masks are the way to do that, then masks are what we will all have to get used to wearing.

I don't think resort pools are going to be an option based upon the restrictions that we have been hearing so far. I hope I'm wrong.

It will be interesting to see if the state of Florida comes out with guidelines for public pool openings. Georgia is expected to publish public pool guidelines soon. The CDC already has published recommendations.

The recommendation we are concerned about from the CDC is:

Cleaning and Disinfection
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces at least daily and shared objects each time they are used. For example:
    • Handrails, slides, and structures for climbing or playing
    • Lounge chairs, tabletops, pool noodles, and kickboards
    • Door handles and surfaces of restrooms, handwashing stations, diaper-changing stations, and showers
This makes it unclear whether lounge chairs and tabletops and handrails and door handles are "frequently touched" or "shared objects." The guidance is not clear. It would make it very difficult if they expect lounge chairs and handrails to be disinfected every time someone touches them. We are probably going to remove all lounge chairs in our community pool and ask guests to bring their own chairs, but Disney obviously can't do that. I suppose they could assign or reserve chairs. 😕

The other guidelines could be fairly easily enforced, with the possible exception of capacity limits, which have the potential to be a nightmare. Groups making guidelines like the CDC and the health departments should be sure the guidelines aren't so stringent that almost no one can feasibly be able to meet them.

Anyway, Disney and Universal will have a lot of backlash if they choose to keep pools closed while other public pools in Florida are open.

Anyone know if the Florida health department has released guidelines on opening pools?

The Task Force phased guidelines addressed pools only by saying that there should be social distancing between deck chairs as I recall. I can"t find the document I read though.

So, I got all excited that in my email was a survey from DVC. However, it wound up to be much more generic than the survey going to people with vacations booked. It basically asked my impression of DVC and if I still felt it was valuable to me. It did ask what I planned to do with my 2020 points (use or bank) and if that was a departure from what I normally do, and if I had plans to travel to any of the destinations and when.

said it all my Orlando life, Universal communicates better and is better to their TM than Disney. I'm so excited to get out of the house to go somewhere other than Publix

You'll need to post the new link you use now. You know what I mean :magnify:

The problem with that is, the longer businesses stay closed, the less chance they have at reopening when everything is actually good enough to lift all restrictions. Obviously that doesn’t impact most big corporations, but it does impact a lot below that threshold. Some-Most People can survive off of what they’re receiving from the government in terms of unemployment and stimulus, but what happens when things get better and those some-most people no longer have a job to go back to because the shut down lasted long enough that their employer either had to lay off a lot of people, or just not reopen at all.

it’s a very tricky, complex, and difficult situation we’re living in right now and it only gets worse with every day that passes
I agree. I think it’ll still be very hard on businesses b/c likely they’ll have to increase overhead costs with some of the ridiculous restrictions & probably do less business b/c ppl are still afraid to leave their houses & those that aren’t afraid aren’t willing to pay for less than experiences.

My cousin is In PR at Seaworld & told me that.

I bet that's what I'm remembering, thanks.

Honestly the more I read, the more I think most places should just stay closed. It’s unfortunate for those businesses that are affected. That includes places here there are trying to open up too. The restrictions are just getting ridiculous. If it’s that bad then we need to go back to just going out for essentials. 🙄

I agree and disagree.

I am definitely of the opinion that we need to open things slowly and cautiously, and not because people are ready for them to open and done with COVID-19, but because it's proven safe. I also think it's not just about what a business can do to prevent spread in their individual business, but what testing, tracking, and containment looks like in each individual area. Those need to be solid.

However, we really can't stay at home forever and keep non-essentials (and that's vague in itself) closed. It's not a storm, it's not here and then suddenly gone where we can all come out again. The distancing, the masks, and other rules and guidelines are needed in the period where *hopefully* numbers continue to decrease. Once we see what life with precautions does, I imagine everything can be re-evaluated again (and again and again and again).

Not long ago there was a group that wanted WDW to open ASAP (the "optimists") and others that said it needed to wait (labeled as "negative" or "pessimists"). Strange how things turn around.
