It will be interesting to see if the state of Florida comes out with guidelines for public pool openings. Georgia is expected to publish public pool guidelines soon. The CDC already has published recommendations.
The recommendation we are concerned about from the CDC is:
Cleaning and Disinfection
- Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces at least daily and shared objects each time they are used. For example:
- Handrails, slides, and structures for climbing or playing
- Lounge chairs, tabletops, pool noodles, and kickboards
- Door handles and surfaces of restrooms, handwashing stations, diaper-changing stations, and showers
This makes it unclear whether lounge chairs and tabletops and handrails and door handles are "frequently touched" or "shared objects." The guidance is not clear. It would make it very difficult if they expect lounge chairs and handrails to be disinfected every time someone touches them. We are probably going to remove all lounge chairs in our community pool and ask guests to bring their own chairs, but Disney obviously can't do that. I suppose they could assign or reserve chairs.
The other guidelines could be fairly easily enforced, with the possible exception of capacity limits, which have the potential to be a nightmare. Groups making guidelines like the CDC and the health departments should be sure the guidelines aren't so stringent that almost no one can feasibly be able to meet them.
Anyway, Disney and Universal will have a lot of backlash if they choose to keep pools closed while other public pools in Florida are open.
Anyone know if the Florida health department has released guidelines on opening pools?
