Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Just as another data point, here in South Florida masks are required if you are in any situation where you might be within 6 feet of a person, this includes all retail stores. I've seen almost 100% compliance with this. Even before masks were required here I would say about 60% of the people I saw shopping at Costco had them, I was starting to feel weird without one. And I REALLY wished I had one on when I was at the grocery store getting something from the bottom shelf, when a guy walked down the aisle and chose the moment he was standing right above me to just explode with the loudest, most forceful sneeze. He immediately began stammering apologies and actually ran out of the aisle while I held my breath, not knowing what to do. I left the store right away in tears.

That was an anxious two weeks for me for sure. I made getting a supply of cloth masks a priority after that. Shortly after that happened masks and face coverings were made mandatory here.

Until you get into a Splash Mountain boat and the person in the front row starts having a coughing fit, you won't know how you'll feel.

Thinking about how they might handle indoor theaters and shows at WDW, if no masks are required might it be CM seating guests rather than seat yourself? I always think they are efficient getting people in order when they ask 'how many in your party?' We've only been to WDW twice, but have never really been in packed indoor thaters or shows when we've gone in the summer. The only full one I can recall is the Festival of the Lion King

If Disney chooses to do some type of daily reservation , I know they may not copy it from Shanghai but I think they will do something, it won't be easy. As far as the reservations go for on site guests they may have 2 options. The first limit the amount of resort guests at one time or they could ask people to choose dates even though they are resort guests. This way they could balance all types of paying guests. I know resort guests are usually get top preferences but I think AP holders are important to them as well. They will have to find a balance. Don't forget they sold reservations for Star Wars at Disneyland. I know Disney world is much different but in my opinion I don't see how they can control capacity in 4 parks by just shutting them off to people like a phase closing and not upset people. I will say the capacity level they choose to start with will make a difference. I think how long they will have to change and monitor capacity will sway their decision.
Thinking about it more... if they go reservation I could see them going onsite or reservation. Don’t kill the on-site geese + control that which you aren’t sure about (offsite guests including offsite APs)...

Exactly. Anyone going to theme parks in the next few months must be willing to risk that. I hope anyone going thinks through this exact example (it’s quite good), if you are not ok with that it is not the time to go to a theme park.

Yes and I think people need to be patient, too. While we will probably see the lowest crowds ever things are going to take a while with the extra cleaning and distancing and reduced capacity.

If all someone cares about is low crowds it will be the time to go if they can swing it.

Exactly. There are many people who are totally fine with this risk. I wouldn’t cry or worry for weeks if a stranger sneezed near me. I won’t worry if anyone has a coughing fit near me on a ride. I’m okay with the risks of going in public and going to a theme park. But if you aren’t okay with the risk of sharing air with people around you, a theme park is a really bad place for you.

The more I think about it too, the more I think this may happen. Especially, if they move towards virtual queues instead of FP.

Until WDW opens with known rules in place, it's premature to say that people shouldn't visit if they can't handle 'risk'. There is no way to measuring potential 'risk' without knowing specifically what measures guests will be required to adhere to.

And when WDW announces its criteria and rules for opening, for every potential guest who decides their personal capacity for risk isn't worth it, there will be someone who decides any post-COVID standards will 'ruin the magic' etc. and they'll find that a theme park will be a really bad place to be as well.

But until we know what the rules will be, it's all speculation going round and round and round and round and round in circles.

I don't think a mask would have been helpful in that situation. Sounds like you may have needed be to pressure washed after that. :) Glad you didn't get ill.

How do you think Disney will handle the biometric entry? Certainly tens of thousands of people touching the same point is a bad idea. Sanitizing between each guest is impractical.
one thought I had, a theme park near me has multiple day passes. They take your picture with an iPad on the first day and it pops up when you scan your ticket on the other days. This is still probably impractical for the volume of people Disney gets.
I also saw somewhere that Disney would move towards single use products. Does that mean no refillable mugs for a while?

I think it has been mentioned they will get rid of the touch point entry.

Possibly going to face recognition or something else

What else would there be? They'll have to do photo matching like at DLR. Whether they automate the process into AI facial recognition maybe eventually but they haven't shown they have that tech yet (I vaguely recall seeing it deployed at Universal for the Express Pass stuff....). It will be interesting to see how they modify the park entry lines and ticket procedures. Definitely not going to be able to have two people at a time, potentially squeezing past the person in front of you if you go green like before...

Disneyland uses this method of taking a picture at the time of your first entry. The picture come up on a screen everytime you enter after that.

There could be an option to upload a photo on your MDE. Or at check in? Of course some would have to do it at the gate. Ugh so many things need to change.

I can't imagine refillable mugs (or popcorn containers for that matter) will be allowed. Hope they do something else for those on the dining plan that includes that like unlimited beverages that would normally go in the mugs.

I guess for the popcorn they could give you the new popcorn in a normal container and leave it to you to pour it into your bucket...
