Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Virtual que is a fantastic idea so long as it resembles nothing like RotR - granted RotR is the way it is because of being new and popular and I’ve never had a problem getting a boarding time because it’s just my wife and I, but I couldn’t imagine being a family of 5 or more who’s been waiting for 90 mins or longer before the Sun’s up only to not get a boarding pass because your app didn’t load fast enough or you weren’t as quick on the draw.
Maybe something like a hybrid or modified version the old fast pass system I remember as a kid where you could only hold one at a time? Like you could only “reserve” a ride time for a couple at a time? There’s probably a bunch of downsides to this as well.

The tapu tapu system at volcano bay works very well though and wouldn’t mind seeing something like this as an interim option.

Virtual queue sounds ideal - less time waiting in line, less anxiety about getting to ride, more time to explore other parts of the park/shopping for souveniers/getting something to eat maybe. I am very much looking forward to being able to return ASAP if this is implemented along with reduced/resort guest-only admission (but I'm from Out of Town so I'm being a little selfish...)

Do you have a link where he includes a screen shot of the pop up I posted? I do not see it in his article from last month. His article (similar to others I read and noted) had just picked up on the fact that they had added the words “My Queues” in one corner of a menu.
Here is the article on "My Queues:"

But, it seems they have added even more screens, including the first one that says "use this app to join a virtual queue for select experiences." Definitely sounds like VQs are coming for (not all, but some) lines.

My fast pass window opens next Thursday for ten days in early July and I'm struggling with restructuring our trip. So many phased park opening rumors and modified experiences issues to contend with. We're at Bay Lake, so no issue there, but our current plans are heavy on HS days. I don't know what to do. Change to primarily MK days? Change our Savi's and Droid Depot res's to later in our trip? Remove Epcot from our plans entirely? Should I even bother with fast passes? This is driving me insane.

Personally, I would book like normal. Our trip is late July and i'm going to do as I planned.

If we were booked for late July, I would definitely stick with the current plan. Early July could very well be in a "1st Phase" of reopening though. We might not even have 3 parks open then. Ugh! If that's the case my nephew's family (DVC members) are planning on condensing down to a 5 day trip. Also throwing a wrench into the planning.

We booked our FP's for our June trip this morning. We just planned as we normally would, knowing most likely it's going to all change completely. There's really nothing you can do without them announcing opening dates and details. I wasn't the least bit excited. After having our March trip cancelled at the last minute, with a near perfect schedule of FP's and parties, I just can't let myself get excited about this one. We just trudged through it and I'll think about it again when I know more.

When is your trip?

Our original baby moon was cancelled, we were doing a cruise from NYC and there was a stop in Orlando that we were planning on spending the day in Disney. We booked 6/21-6/26 instead for Disney World. We always fly but will be driving from Mass. I saw my Dr. yesterday and she said she might have to have me cancel when it gets closer, it's too soon to tell. Which I totally understand better safe than sorry especially when pregnant. Regardless of the virus, I'm a little worried how I'd do with the heat lol. We did 2 trips last year and are planning one for february 2021 and one in oct 2021 for the anniversary. I think if my Dr. OK's it and I feel safe I would be okay with the modified experience just to be back in Disney. like some people said earlier in this thread, who knows what our "new normal" will be unfortunately. it's really a waiting game right now since everything changes on a day to day basis.

June 27-July 11th Split Stay OKW/Riviera 1 br Villa/YC CL
I like that trip - a triple split! I had a YC CL trip for a week @ end of June but switched to 1br BCV b/c I was worried about modified (aka not open) restaurant openings. Rumors are certainly only rumors, but I wanted to hedge my bets a bit.

I am waiting it out to see how things shake out and I might switch to OKW b/c I've never been out there and seemingly 95% of people on the boards loves them. I've always avoided b/c of the extra time to get to parks when there's a mad dash at WDW, but if there isn't a need for a mad dash, I'm all for staying out of the action a bit.

We've been to Disney twice, and I can't remember for the life of me how it worked in the past, so I have a dumb question:

I already have reservations at Boardwalk for mid-July. I've been making ADRs for a while now. My FP window is opening in mid-May. I have NOT purchased my tickets because of all of this mess... I'm waiting to see what Disney plans to do (because we don't want to pay full price for a modified experience).

Will I be able to (hypothetically) book my FPs with just my reservations at Boardwalk, or do I need to purchase my tickets and link the ticket numbers up to my account to do the FPs.
The last two times we went, I had done both reservations and tickets by this time, so I don't know which one is key to opening the FPs for us.
Thanks!

This. I think VQs are a good idea - if they're nothing like ROTR. If they are, I can see many people not returning to or bothering to visit Disney. I can see a blending of FP+ and VQ - join up to 3 VQs at a time, which can be booked at any time (so you can join a VQ for Splash at 1:30 pm). In the meantime, you can enjoy any attraction/show that doesn't require a VQ. Also, give a grace period, so if you're ETA is 2:00, allow until 2:30 (etc) or to tap into the attraction.
