I heard about this a week or so ago but haven't been able to find any confirmation of it on-line. Does anyone have any info about this?
Disney Cruise Line (DCL) has announced their schedules through the end of 2010. There are no sailings from New York.I heard about this a week or so ago but haven't been able to find any confirmation of it on-line. Does anyone have any info about this?
I wonder what you really heard on CNN or MSNBC.I think it would be a HUGE success. Originally I heard it on CNN or MSNBC, so maybe it's in the works.

Keep in mind that Disney has announced nothing, and that Disney doesn't comment on rumors.
A Google News search turns up some articles that use the terms "Disney Cruise Line" and "New York" in the same news article, but absolutely no news articles that tie the two together. Keep in mind that Google News includes the online articles posted by both CNN and MSNBC, as well as many thousands of other news sources.
As I wrote earlier in this thread, there's a possibility.
I really don't think that there's genuine news that "maybe it's in the works."
But,
You CAN see (smell) Jersey from NY!![]()
Please don't take any of my comments as attacks. I'm glad you came to the "Disney News and Rumors" forum with this rumor. All I'm trying to do is to discuss the rumor, in light of Disney's lack of any announcements about new itineraries after the end of 2010.Horace, what I saw was a tease for a segment that I was not able to stick around for. The tease stated words to the effect that Disney cruises may start departing from NY. That is why I came here to the "Rumors" board, rather than the "Cruise" board, to ask about it in the hopes that someone else caught it.

A rumor about a future Disney Cruise itinerary doesn't sound like the kind of teaser CNN or MSNBC would run on their national news and commentary channels. It's even unlikely they would cover actual, announced news about cruise line itineraries.
Given that you're not sure of the station, could the teaser have been a local news channel, with a story about a local port trying to entice Disney to sail from New York? (Even then, such a story should also be online.)
Geu, at least it's not going to Jersey.
Royal Caribbean cruises out of New York actually originate at their so called Cape Liberty Cruise Port which is in Hoboken, New Jersey. So it's not far fetched that other cruise lines could sail and return from that side of the river. Of course the NYC side of the river is more likely.

Disney Cruise Line (DCL) has announced their schedules through the end of 2010. There are no sailings from New York.
DCL has not announced specific sailings for 2010 and beyond, nor has DCL announced specific itineraries for the two new ships that are on order.
The new ships will go to Port Canaveral. See http://www.portcanaveral.org/general/news/releases/031908.php for news about Disney ay Port Canaveral.
Disney has not announced future plans for the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. Conventional wisdom says they will go to other ports, most likely with one going to the West Coast and one going to Europe. The thinking is that the temporary West Coast and European schedules of the Disney Magic are dress rehearsals, proof-of-concept exercises, and publicity/awareness initiatives to pave the way for the future.
What about New York?
Yes, it's a possibility that some New York departures could be scheduled some time in the future. After all, there's a huge population to draw from. It would be a good way to introduce new passengers to DCL.
But DCL hasn't announced anything about New York.
The challenge would be to come up with a compelling itinerary. The cruise would have to call on at least one foreign port to comply with U.S. law. Cruise ships aren't that fast, so it's not a simple matter of sailing to the Caribbean and back on 7-night cruise. Canada is a possibility.
At this point, anything regarding DCL in New York is just speculation and wishful thinking (by New Yorkers).
