Rude Mom at Tink run thread got me thinking..........

I definitely think there is more rude behavior than there used to be - at WDW and here on the DIS. I have been reading and posting since year 2000 and there are SO many more arguments than there ever used to be. My word, it can get ugly very quickly. Some of you old - time DISers, do you agree with me? Did people used to be more courteous here on the DIS?

I agree! I have been on the Dis for quite awhile and I have noticed a change also. It seems like when I first came to the board people were so quick to help me and very nice about doing it. Flaming is not as rare as it used to be - unfortunately.

Yes, I really agree, I originally started posting here in 2001 (they lost my name Eeyore2001 for some reason???) It was mostly lots of information and questions and allot less "opinions". Especially "complaining" type opinions. I also agree that some threads just change SO quickly from "nice" to "awful"!!!

I haven't been here for very long to comment on how bad the flaming has gotten, but to me it is VERY mild compared to some other boards that I read (non-Disney).

Has grown by leaps and bounds,so you get more folks involved on the boards and a few more post's that go bad.I still feel the Dis is a safe haven for those that love Disney and need trip planning information.We are lucky to have so many on the Dis that are great to share information and relate the Disney experience to others.

I've been lurking and posting on this board for a few months and I have to say that the Disboards are my favorite by far. Yes, there is flaming occasionally, but it's nothing compared to other sites (even other disney sites). It seems to be the same people are consistantly doing the flaming as well, so I would just chalk it up to some bad apples and I usually ignore those threads.

I have been a member of the DIS "family" for over 6 years!! I kinda like to think I was one of the first....
But I do agree that there are more rude people than there used to be....
But there are a lot more people that post on here than there used to be.
Obviously.... the larger the group, the more people that are not always appropriate.

I also feel that society has come to accept rude behavior more than ever before. And a great deal of that IMHO.... has to do with the media and the acceptance of such rude behaviors on TV, the Radio, etc.
Think about it..... What types of shows were poplular 15 years ago vs. the ones now? There are behaviors that I see on TV that I would NEVER allow in my house.... yet, millions of people laugh at it and accept it as normal.
Kinda sad to see society decline like this!

I don't think it's been recent, I've always seen some nasty posts. does anyome remember that dreaded "debate board?" lol that was always good for a nasty post or two!

I really think that since there is over 80,000 members, there is going to be some disagreements, but the age old "refillable mugs, pool hopping and do I buy my child a ticket when they've just turned 3" arguements have always been on these boards as far as I can remember.

To be honest, I've thought the boards have had less arguments, maybe I just don't pay attention to them.

The first time I ever posted on the DIS, it was only one board and not that many posting. There were rude people here then, too. In fact, after my trip to WDW, I didn't come back for a long time because of the holier than thou attitude of a few people.

Of course, there are more rude people now. There are so many posters than there used to be just as there are more people visiting WDW.

I remember growing up in South Jersey. It always seemed so crowded. I moved to NC right after my 21st birthday, many years ago. What a difference between the two places.

The town I moved to was so small compared to what I was used. You couldn't go anywhere without seeing someone you knew. The people were much friendlier than I was used to also. Now, my town has grown. Most people are still friendly, but we have our share of rudeness. Everyone seems to be in a hurry because we live in such a fast paced society. It's much harder to get around because of such a large increase in traffic. Crowds seem to bring out the worst in people.

As far as NJ, everytime I visit I am amazed at how crowded it has gotten. I can't imagine living is such a densely populated area. I'm sure there are still many nice people there, but with such a large number of people you're going to run into some rudeness.

As I said in the other thread, I really wonder if people are actually getting more rude or is it just because there are so many more people.

Out of a thousand something posts of mine, I've only been flamed on one or two threads....so I have really found most of the people on DIS to be very nice!

I've been posting here for seven and a half years, and from what I've seen, the demeanor of folks has varied both up and down over time -- has not trended solely in any specific direction. If anything, there was a brief period during which things got "out of control" IMHO (I even stopped visiting regularly for a number months) after which things have gotten a lot better.
