We are leaving in 9 days for our trip :cool1: DH has a food allergy to strawberries and for some reason last year it did not show up on our ressie and we almost had a problem at a resturant. So to make sure it didnt happen this year, I made sure to call and confirm that the allergy was listed on all of our ressies. The CM was so rude . I told her I wanted to check and see if DH's allergy was listed. Very rudely she said "yes" . I then replied, its on all of them correct. She answered rudely again "yes" then sighed. I replied thank you and hung up.
Im sorry I wasted her time making sure DH wouldnt have a allergic reaction while we are on vacation.

OK Vent over.....anyone else needs to vent feel free :rotfl2:

ETA...This was DINING reservations, not room reservation.

I am confused...this is your DH you are talking about...can't he make sure before he eats or drinks anything that there is indeed no strawberries in the food or the drink??? :confused3

CM said the word "YES" 2x...naa, she did seem rude to me.

:confused3 :confused3 while the CM should not be rude....I do think that it is kind of unrealistic to rely on information being shown on a reservation..........

it seems that the best way to handle an allergy would be to work with the wait staff directly at the time you are ordering...........

I can't see how having a food allergy noted on your room reservation does you any good. The people to go over it with are the chefs and wait staff at the restaurants you visit.

I also don't see how answer "yes" when you asked if it was on your reservation was rude.

That stinks that the CM was not so nice to you. I hope you guys have a wonderful vacation and that your husband doesn't have any food issues! :)

Its not the fact of seeing something with a strawberry in it, its a matter of cross contamination. And it wasnt on my room reservation, it was on our dining reservations. Also, it wasnt that she said yes, it was HOW she said it and then sighed.

We can, and do address it with the waitstaff, but mistakes can /are made and while his allergy is not life threatening, it is very serious. one that if proper procedure is followed, will not happen.

Might have been the sigh and perhaps a snippy tone.

I was under the impression that it was her dinner reservations the OP was referring too (she said she was confirming it was on "all of their ressies") and I assume it was the tone of voice and not the words that was rude.

I do agree that even with it noted on the reservation, I'd still inform the staff when I was seated. :goodvibes

ETA - wow, lots of posts between the time I wrote this and clicked reply! I guess I was right about all of the above - lol :)

I hope you have a great trip, Niki!

I agree. I am amazed. I couldn't imagine putting a food allergy on any reservation unless I was going to be sequestered in my room and at the mercy of room service! Even then? :confused3

Cross contamination?? :confused3

Once again this is you DH, right??? :confused3

I have a 22yo who is severely allergic to penicillin but he handles it himself...wears a bracelet and if necessary and the situation warrants it he will mention it....:thumbsup2

I think you are getting to upset. Calm down, relax, get packed and enjoy your trip. :goodvibes

Croos contamination, here is a whole article on it http://foodallergies.about.com/od/livingwithfoodallergies/ht/htxcontaminate.htm
He deals with it at the resturants, but i make the dining reservations. I was just annoyed at the CM for being rude. At Disney, the chef comes out and speaks to the person with the allergies, what they have dont have etc...what is "safe" what is not, what could be contaminated. Thats why it is important to note on the reservation.

There's a huge difference between a penicillin allergy and a food allergy, last time I checked people weren't mixing penicillin into food! Cross contamination does happen in kitchens and it does pose a problem. There are people out there that will start going into anaphylactic shock even if they're not eating it directly, it's a risk most of us that live with people with food allergies aren't willing to take.

I'm sure her DH will mention the issue as well but it never hurts to have your bases covered!

OP - sorry you got a cranky CM, I had one at DLP that I wanted to slap so bad. :headache:

OP, sorry the CM was cranky with you. I can relate to what you're going through as I am allergic to shellfish and have had many reactions due to cross contamination.

My son is allergic to strawberries, but we've been luckier with him as far as cross contamination goes.

We ate at Blue Bayou a couple of years ago and specifically told them he was allergic. His plate came out - with 3 big juicy strawberries on it. Service had been so bad, we didn't send it back...I just made a big production of removing the berries (and the pasta that had been touching it) and wiping the plate with my napkin. :sad2: In the end, it didn't matter as he didn't like the chicken or the pasta and had half of my Monte Cristo instead.

In contrast, last year, we ate at Carnation Cafe and told the waitress about the allergy and she was very understanding and even made sure the chef changed his gloves before fixing DS's food. :cool2:

My guess is that other than deserts, Strawberries tend to be a very rare ingredient in food. There are exceptions but I cant imagine my hamburger and fries from SCI FI being contaminated with strawberry residue.

Cross contamination from gloves would do it.

Sure, cross contamination from a common ingredient might occur often.

I am not a cook/chef, but how often does a grill cook handle strawberries?

Why are you amazed that she put an allergy on a dining reservation? While I'm not quite sure that noting it on the dining reservation will actually accomplish anything, I don't understand why people are acting so surprised that the OP requested it.

I can not believe some of the responses to the OP. Those of you that don't have to deal with a loved one with a food alergy should thank your lucky stars. I know I am glad I don't have to deal with it. But I sure have an understanding of it.

Just as we have birthdays, anniversaries, etc. noted on reservations (and the restaurant staff then knows about them) people who have to worry about food allergies have them noted. Of course the staff then knows about them too. Honestly it is much more important to have an allergy noted than a special occassion.

OP sorry you had to deal with a grumpy CM.

I made certain to post it on our dining resies, and at every place was certain they knew about the no strawberry rule for me.
I always bring it up and ask about certain dishes, and my niece with her shellfish allergy is 500 times more alert.
