Rude CM vent

C

I'm glad that you have had a change of heart. This post is completely contradictory to the others you have made in this thread that clearly stated that you did in fact care if that the OP called in advance.

No, I didn't have a change of heart; I still feel that an allergy to strawberries is something that can be dealt with at the point of service with the server. If a restaurant can't accommodate that, particularly at WDW, then they shouldn't be in business. I told Niki that I didn't attack her. She is free to do what ever makes her happy. Why would I personally care if she called in advance? I simply gave an opinion on the "need" for it. Please point out to me however where I said, "I really care if you call in advance".

Disney "requires" that one provide 72 hours notice? I wouldn't go to a resort or restaurant that required me to give them 8 hours notice so that they wouldn't "poison me". If a restaurant can't accommodate someone with a food allergy as a walk in, then they shouldn't be in business. It is not an airplane that loads pre packaged meals before a flight. I am going to assume then that a guest would have to have 21 ADRs for a weeks' vacation; which is totally micromanaging. Disney has a policy which serves them in that it gives an impression of individualized service.

Disney "policy" is quoted here in an interview as of June 10, 2008:
http://www.allergymoms.com/modules/wordpress/index.php?p=571

Per "Joel Schaefer, Disney’s Special Dietary Needs Manager, how to plan to dine safely at Walt Disney world. Here’s what Joel shared with us this month."
quoted from article:

"What is the procedure for making a special dietary request at table service locations?

1. Call the Dining Reservation Center at 407-WDW-DINE or (407) 939-3463.

2. Indicate to the Cast Member your special dietary requests.

3. Your special dietary request will be noted by the Cast Member on your reservation.

4. Write down the dining location phone number that the Cast Member provides you, as well as your reservation number and the day and time of your reservation.

5. Contact your dining location at least 72 hours in advance to discuss your special dietary request with the chef, manager or food and beverage representative.

6. Please feel welcome to speak to the chef or manager on duty when you arrive at your dining location. "

I also react to bee stings; each reaction within a season becomes more severe, but I don't notify establishments ahead of time to clear out the bees. In fact, I pulled a toddler out of a pachysandra patch who was being stung by ground hornets. He was screaming and his parents weren't in the immediate vicinity. I received over 20 stings while I was running and pulling off his clothes. WE both went to the ER.[/QUOTE

normally I would read the rest of the thread, but.. gee, that was very brave of you. last I heard, bees are NOT planned. strawberries as GARNISH ARE planned.
For an adult, this is overkill. I also think that it is an example of how many people totally overplan any trip to WDW. Perhaps she should tell the hotel which type of towel animals she would like.

AGAIN, what a RIDICULOUS analogy!! when was the last time you heard of extremely irritating rash lasting for days from "towel animals"?

Giving a "yes" in reply to a question is neither rude nor snarkey. And if the tone was a little off, then be understanding and give the CM a break. They are not little Disney robots, they are human, and sometimes it shows. And who can say that they have never ever so much as had a little off tone of voice at work? No one. It is not worth getting that worked up over.

ok, we are USED to "magical" . at universal studios they even joke (at the gory gruesome make=up show) "this isn't Disney , kid... we don't HAVE to be nice to you!" :rotfl: maybe she was rude, maybe she was having a bad day.

however, the thread has taken on a "new life"... overkill? Micromanaging? some posters think it is silly to call and double check things!!! OVERPLANNING?
sorry, Disney STATES to put allergies in your ressies. as a waitress, I KNOW how chefs can be busy and APPRECIATE knowing UPFRONT about any special requests.
about double checking... even though I state room requests, etc, at ressie time, I ALWAYS call the day before a trip to double check... you have no idea how often those requests, were not listed!
and, even though an allergy to strawberries may not be life threatening (like peanuts), a nasty, irritating rash that lasts for days could SURE ruin a BIG chunk of a trip!!!! why would it bother anyone if the OP calls to double check?
in high school, I worked at McDonalds. we had a customer who couldn't have salt on his fries. we knew this, and it wasn't just a matter of NOT alting his fries. we had to empty the bin, wipe it out of all the residual salt, then make his fries (and this was in the early 70's) .
all the OP wanted was the chef to know, don't make a strawberry shortcake, then handle hubby's food. OR don't use st5rawberrys for garnish. sheesh

To the OP-I'm curious. When dining at your local fine food restaurant, do you call ahead to 'warn' the staff?:confused3

I would think, simply mentioning it to the Waiter is all you need to do.

SO NOT TRUE! do you really think everything you order is started from scratch when your server puts the order in? you would be sitting there for hours! people don't realize, MOSt entrees are prepared ahead of time, as are sauces, sides, etc.. . (for example, today, our chef was preparing the 3 cheese and spinach mixture for our stuffed mushrooms and chicken wellington for the week, as well as making bacon, cooking ribs, etc on and on)

ever hear of a strawberry margarita? or daquari? our cook grinds the strawberries for the bartender for the week. and THEN prepares the OP's order? ther is NOT a single entree on our menu with strawberries, yet our chef handles strawberries. see?

No, I didn't have a change of heart; I still feel that an allergy to strawberries is something that can be dealt with at the point of service with the server. If a restaurant can't accommodate that, particularly at WDW, then they shouldn't be in business. .

You may "feel" that this allergy can be dealt with by the server, but your "feeling" is wrong. NO restaurant can assure this, without notice. you IGNORE previous posts from those of us in the restaurant business who ASSURE you that many preparations are made days ahead of time.
Disney, or any other restaurant. may do their best to accomodate last minute requests, but they shouldn't be "out of business" because of it.

the OP is ABSOLUTELY correct in double checking, even triple checking!! a food allergy CANNOT PROPERLY be dealt with at the point of server. by then it is too late for many preparations. this is just a FACT.

I told Niki that I didn't attack her. She is free to do what ever makes her happy. Why would I personally care if she called in advance? I simply gave an opinion on the "need" for it. Please point out to me however where I said, "I really care if you call in advance".

I have no idea why you cared that she noted on her ADRs that her DH had a strawberry allergy but anyone with half a brain can see you did after reading 9 pages of a thread where the majority of posts were from you saying the same thing over and over again.

micromanaging would be going down there, going shopping with the chef and watching him prepare the food. The OP simply did what was requested she do, in protecting her family, her husband, and the vacation.

Maybe she was oversensitive to the CM, maybe not, we weren't there. She says they were rude. I apologize that the CM was rude, OP, hopefully she was just having a bad day and will do better in the future.
